Police search for driver after victim injured in South Side hit-and-run crash overnight
CHICAGO — Authorities are asking for help from the public in the search for a driver wanted in connection with a South Side hit-and-run crash that left a person seriously injured overnight.
Chicago police say the crash unfolded just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night as the victim was crossing the street in the 700 block of East 79th Street.

According to police, as the victim made their way across 79th Street using the crosswalk, they were struck by a 2019 Silver Chevrolet Malibu. Following the crash, officers said the driver of the Malibu allegedly fled the scene, heading west along 79th St., toward South Martin Luther King Drive.
Police said the victim was seriously injured in the crash, though the extent of their injuries remains unclear.
On Thursday, police shared a photo of the vehicle wanted in connection with the crash.
Officers were not able to provide a description of the driver but said their vehicle had an Illinois license plate with the tag number DH27880.

Additionally, officers said the vehicle also had tinted windows and may now have damage to the front left side of the vehicle or the windshield.

Woman shaken up after Virginia Beach townhome shooting
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (wavy) — Shana Turner, who is in preparation to move out of her College Square home, was sleeping on a cot Thursday night when someone opened fire on a row of townhomes. Once she heard bullets, she was crawling to exit out of the room she was asleep in. 'It came out through [one] wall to [another] wall and I have pictures to where the bullet was lodged at,' said Turner. There is damage to the exterior of her home and at least five other units that face Level Green Boulevard. Turner admitted she would not feel comfortable sleeping in her neighborhood following the shooting. 'I suffer from severe anxiety, depression and PTSD. This has triggered my PTSD. I felt like I was in a war zone. I never did combat, but PTSD is real,' said Turner. The incident resonated deeply with Turner for two additional reasons. 'Losing my son to senseless violence in 2017; the second reason because we are losing too many of our generations, our young people are killing each other.' said Turner. In an effort to take back the community, Turner has an organization, HR M.A.S.K., that holds public events. For instance, she sponsored a basketball tournament last weekend where attendees were encouraged to wear orange, which is the color that represents efforts to curb gun violence. Waterbury woman pleads guilty to stealing $360K in fraud schemes
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Waterbury woman pleaded guilty on Friday to stealing approximately $360,000 through fraud schemes across companies in Connecticut and New York. 'Get out of jail free card': Kent Mawhinney accepts plea deal in Jennifer Farber Dulos case Marlenin Vito, 46, allegedly stole nearly $310,820 in about 500 fraudulent checks while working as a Medicaid coordinator in Stamford, according to court documents. During her time at the company, she was responsible for helping nursing home residents apply for Medicaid reimbursements, handling patient trust accounts and payments made on behalf of residents. 'Many of the residents were not healthy enough or mentally capable of tracking their own expenses or monitoring the balances of their own trust accounts,' a press release from the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut said. East Granby woman pleads guilty to $1.1M pandemic relief fraud For over a year, from about Dec. 2019 through May 2021, Vito allegedly forged signatures on the company's checks and lied about giving cash to the residents. Vito created and provided to family members false account statements that misrepresented the balances in the residents' trust accounts, according to statements in court and additional court documents. Vito kept COVID-19 stimulus payments and cancelled some residents' health insurance coverage to keep the money for herself, according to the press release. She was fired from the company.
