Police search for driver after victim injured in South Side hit-and-run crash overnight

CHICAGO — Authorities are asking for help from the public in the search for a driver wanted in connection with a South Side hit-and-run crash that left a person seriously injured overnight. Chicago police say the crash unfolded just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night as the victim was crossing the street in the 700 block of East 79th Street. Read more: Latest Chicago news and headlines According to police, as the victim made their way across 79th Street using the crosswalk, they were struck by a 2019 Silver Chevrolet Malibu. Following the crash, officers said the driver of the Malibu allegedly fled the scene, heading west along 79th St., toward South Martin Luther King Drive. Police said the victim was seriously injured in the crash, though the extent of their injuries remains unclear. On Thursday, police shared a photo of the vehicle wanted in connection with the crash. Officers were not able to provide a description of the driver but said their vehicle had an Illinois license plate with the tag number DH27880. CHICAGO — A man is dead and a woman is in custody on Wednesday morning after a deadly crash on the Southwest Side overnight. According to Chicago police, the crash unfolded just before 9:30 a.m. near the 7000 block of South Western Avenue. LATEST CASES: Missing people in Chicagoland Officers said the victim, a 75-year-old man, was in the street in the area when he was struck by a northbound silver SUV, which was allegedly being driven by a 29-year-old woman. The victim suffered significant injuries in the crash and was later taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Following the crash, officers said the driver of the SUV continued driving, but was later stopped by police and taken into custody. CHICAGO (WGN) — One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a car crashed into a building on the Near North Side early Saturday morning. Chicago police say the deadly crash unfolded in the 100 block of East Superior Street, in River North, just before 3 a.m. Read more: Latest Chicago news and headlines Officers said the victims, a 40-year-old man and a male whose age is unknown, were traveling eastbound along Superior in a Chevy SUV when the driver lost control and crashed into the building. Following the crash, the 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the male of unconfirmed age was pronounced dead on the scene. Currently, it is unclear what caused the crash and authorities have not yet identified the victim killed.
