DS Penske's Maximilian Gunther won Round 10 of the 2025 Shanghai E-Prix on Saturday. After securing pole position in qualifying, Gunther maintained his lead throughout the race to clinch his first victory of the season.
However, it was his teammate Jean-Eric Vergne who surprised many with a remarkable performance. Starting 10th on the grid, Vergne fought his way up the field to finish second, securing a historic 1-2 finish for DS Penske—their first ever. NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard bounced back to form following a quiet spell. Not only did he set the fastest lap of the race, but he also secured the final spot on the podium with a strong third-place finish.

Round 10 results
This marks DS Penske's first-ever 1-2 finish in Formula E, and Maximilian Gunther's first win of the season. While Gunther started from pole, Taylor Barnard had lined up second on the grid. Tag Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein, who qualified third, fell down the order and ultimately finished 12th.

Nissan's Oliver Rowland, the current leader in the FIA Drivers' World Championship standings, had a full lap of the 50kW, four-wheel-drive Attack Mode boost over Barnard and passed him late in the race.
However, Gunther had built a 30-second lead over Rowland, enough to secure victory on Lap 26. Despite starting sixth, Rowland finished fifth.
Jean-Eric Vergne wasn't the only driver to make a big leap. CUPRA Kiro's Dan Ticktum impressed by climbing from the back of the grid to finish just shy of the podium in fourth place. Behind him were the two Nissan drivers: Rowland in fifth and Norman Nato in sixth. NEOM McLaren's Sam Bird secured seventh, while Mahindra Racing's Nyck de Vries came home in eighth.
Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi and Robin Frijns rounded out the top ten.
Tag Heuer Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa, who had topped the first free practice session on Friday, couldn't carry that form into race day. After qualifying 17th, he managed only a 13th-place finish in the final race.

Oscar Piastri says Spanish Grand Prix 2025 win was just what he needed

Formula One championship leader Oscar Piastri said winning Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix was just what he needed after losing out to McLaren teammate Lando Norris over the previous two weekends. 'It's been a great year and this weekend's been exactly the kind of weekend I was looking for,' said the Australian after his fifth win in nine races. 'We executed everything we needed to when it counted and that's all you can ask for. The team gave me a great car once again. It's a lot of fun winning races at the moment.' The victory, the seventh of the 24-year-old's career, stretched Piastri's lead over second-placed Norris to 10 points after the Briton reduced it to three with his triumph in Monaco last Sunday. Norris also finished second at Imola, the race before Monaco won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with Piastri third. The Australian led from pole position in Spain, the top slot on the grid secured by the biggest margin of the year so far, after also topping the practice times at the Circuit de Catalunya. 'It's definitely up there,' Piastri said when asked whether it was his strongest yet in Formula One. 'I don't know if it's the best one, but certainly it's been a strong one. You know, it's pretty hard to complain with the results we've had this weekend. Norris, winner of two races this year so far, said he did not feel he had lost anything. 'I think Oscar drove a very good race today and had a good day yesterday. I had the pace to go with him but not enough to try and catch up and put him under threat,' he said. Related Topics Oscar Piastri

Max Verstappen Cursed To 10th! Penalised After Ramming Into Mercedes' Russell At Spanish GP

Last Updated: Max Verstappen got a 10-second penalty for colliding with George Russell in the Spanish Grand Prix, finishing 10th. He accused Charles Leclerc and Russell of unfair driving. Max Verstappen found himself at the center of controversy on Sunday when stewards ruled he had rammed rival George Russell during the final laps of an eventful Spanish Grand Prix. The incident occurred shortly after the race resumed with five laps remaining following a safety car period. Verstappen lost third place to Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and then went off track while attempting to defend against Russell's Mercedes. A dramatic restart! 😱This was a heart-in-mouth moment between Verstappen and Leclerc 👀 #F1 #SpanishGP — Formula 1 (@F1) June 1, 2025 Verstappen's Red Bull team instructed him to yield the position to Russell. The Dutchman appeared to comply as he slowed into turn five with two laps to go, but instead, he collided with the Mercedes. The stewards handed Verstappen a 10-second penalty, resulting in a 10th-place finish. He expressed dissatisfaction with how Leclerc had overtaken him and how Russell had attempted to pass. After the race, Verstappen accused Leclerc of driving into him while overtaking and said Russell pushed him off track, forcing him to take the escape road to maintain fourth place. Verstappen did not deny that his move on Russell, with whom he had a contentious relationship last season, was intentional. Verstappen dismissed questions about defending his drivers' title. 'We are too slow to fight for the title anyway. That was clear again today," he remarked. When asked by Sky if his reputation was being tarnished by the collisions and penalty, he replied, 'Is it? Well, that's your opinion. We'll leave it there." Russell likened Verstappen's move to video games. 'I was as surprised as you guys," he told reporters. 'I've seen these maneuvers in simulator games and karting, but never in F1." 'Ultimately, we finished P4 and he finished P5. I don't know what he was thinking. It felt deliberate at the time, so it was surprising." 'It is up to the stewards to determine if it was deliberate. Max is an amazing driver and is admired by many. It's unfortunate that incidents like this continue to happen. It seems unnecessary and never benefits him." Leclerc and Verstappen were both summoned to the stewards' office after the race for further investigation into their collision. (with agency inputs)

Oscar Piastri Emphatically Wins Spanish GP As McLaren Secure 1-2

Oscar Piastri delivered a dominant performance to win the Spanish Grand Prix and further extend his lead in the championship standings. The 24-year-old Australian led a McLaren 1-2, ahead of teammate Lando Norris with the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc rounding off the podium. Starting from pole, Piastri built an early advantage as Norris lost out to Max Verstappen at Turn 1. Although Norris quickly regained the place, Verstappen surged past both McLarens during the first round of pit stops to take the lead. However, the Red Bull driver's early second stop returned the lead to Piastri, sparking speculation of a three-stop strategy. That gamble became clearer when Verstappen pitted again late in the race, just as a Safety Car was deployed following Kimi Antonelli's retirement. The neutralization allowed most frontrunners to pit once more, setting up a six-lap sprint to the finish. Piastri and Norris broke clear at the restart, while Verstappen fell into battles with Charles Leclerc and George Russell. Leclerc passed him for third, and a controversial clash with Russell saw Verstappen forced off-track. After being told to return the position, Verstappen collided with Russell again and was handed a 10-second penalty, dropping him to tenth. Leclerc completed the podium in third for Ferrari, with Russell fourth. Nico Hulkenberg impressed with a charge from 15th to fifth for Kick Sauber. Lewis Hamilton finished sixth for Ferrari, followed by Isack Hadjar in seventh and Pierre Gasly in eighth. Fernando Alonso scored his first points of the season in ninth, while Verstappen rounded out the top ten. Further back, Liam Lawson narrowly missed out on points, with Gabriel Bortoleto, Yuki Tsunoda, and Carlos Sainz behind. Franco Colapinto, Esteban Ocon, and Ollie Bearman were the final classified drivers. Antonelli and Alex Albon retired, while Lance Stroll withdrew from the event due to injury.
