
Soorty and Haelixa expand DNA-backed traceability partnership
As global regulations tighten around greenwashing and unverified sustainability claims, Soorty and Haelixa are looking to empower fashion brands with forensic proof of recycled fibre origin, through DNA-backed traceability technology to help them meet rising demands for transparency, due diligence, and accountability.
The innovative traceability technology is embedded within Soorty's SecondLife, a recycled cotton initiative designed to deliver measurable impact, from resource efficiency and reduced environmental footprint to supply chain visibility and brand accountability.
Soorty applies Haelixa's DNA markers, which are invisible, non-toxic liquid-based tracers, directly to post-consumer textile waste before mechanical shredding. Dr. Gediminas Mikutis, co-founder and chief technology officer of Haelixa, said in a statement: 'In today's complex, global textile supply chains, trust depends on proven origin. Our partnership with Soorty shows how physical traceability builds confidence in circular claims and meets the rising demand for credible, transparent sourcing.'
The partnership also gives Soorty's brand partners the option to use a 'Marked & Traced by Haelixa' label on garments, including a scannable QR code that links to a dedicated landing page. This enables brands to tell the product's sourcing story in detail and give end consumers direct access to verified data about fibre origin, processing stages, and supply chain transparency.

Dollar slips as markets digest Ukraine summit, await Fed comments
SINGAPORE, Aug 19 (Reuters) - The dollar dipped against major peers on Tuesday as markets assessed the outcome of a summit between leaders from the U.S., Europe and Ukraine, while awaiting policy cues from an annual Federal Reserve symposium later this week. The euro and sterling rose about 0.2% each to $1.1686 and $1.3524, respectively. The Swiss franc rose 0.3% and the Japanese yen ticked higher as well. U.S. President Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday that the United States would help guarantee Ukraine's security in any deal to end the war with Russia. Both Trump and Zelenskiy said they hoped Monday's gathering would eventually lead to three-way talks with Putin. The developments did little to give clear direction to foreign exchange markets while European equities gained and oil prices slid on Tuesday. Given that European energy costs are relatively low and undisrupted, developments related to the Russia-Ukraine war are unlikely to be major market movers, said Samy Chaar, chief economist at Lombard Odier. Many investors are away for summer holidays in the northern hemisphere contributing to thinner market liquidity. Analysts at MUFG reckon that if the talks prove successful in ending the conflict in Ukraine, it could provide more support for European currencies that have already outperformed this year. On the macro front, markets are awaiting the Federal Reserve's annual symposium in Jackson Hole for any clues on the likely path of interest rates. Fed Chair Jerome Powell is due to speak on the economic outlook and the central bank's policy framework. Powell is not expected to lock himself onto a monetary path before seeing August's round of data even though money market expectations of a rate cut next month remain above 80%, according to CME's FedWatch tool. "The market is expecting signs that a cut in September is a done deal. I am not sure the market is going to get that," Chaar said. The minutes of the Fed's July meeting are due later on Wednesday and could offer insight into policymakers' thinking about the trajectory of interest rates albeit the meeting took place before a weak labour market report prompted markets to price in cuts more aggressively. "With inflation essentially stuck over the past year, the tariff passthrough that we still expect, and the labor supply story keeping the unemployment rate historically low, we still think there is a strong case for the Fed to remain on hold," analysts at BofA Global Research said in a note. Cryptocurrencies were an exception to the otherwise mellow mood in markets, with bitcoin falling about 1% to notch a third straight day of declines after hitting a record high last week while ether was down 1.2% as well.

The image prompted uproar amid accusations it resembled the racist 'slanted eye' gesture used to mock Asians. Swatch has since apologised and taken down the advert online. The company said in a post on Instagram and Chinese social media channel Weibo that it had 'taken note of the recent concerns regarding the portrayal of a model'. 'We sincerely apologize for any distress or misunderstanding this may have caused,' they added. The watchmaker's response has failed to quieten anger in China around the picture. One Weibo poster, who has more than 1 million followers, accused Swatch of 'racism against Chinese'. Another wrote: 'They make money from us and still dare to discriminate against Chinese people. We would be spineless if we don't boycott it out of China.' Swatch, whose brands also include Blancpain, Longines, and Tissot, rakes in around 27% of its revenue from China, Hong Kong, and Macau. However the company has seen falling sales in China due to the country's economic slowdown. The group blamed an 11.2% drop in net sales for the first six months of the year on poor demand in China. Other luxury brands have also faced accusations of racism from their adverts. French company Dior sparked outrage after an advert showed a model pulling the corner of her eye.
