Magic rookie Jase Richardson hit the gym with Desmond Bane, others

Orlando Magic guard Jase Richardson was spotted in the gym in photos posted by the team on social media in preparation for his upcoming rookie campaign.
Richardson was seen working out alongside Desmond Bane, Jonathan Isaac and Tyus Jones at the AdventHealth Training Center. Several players have been in and out of the practice facility throughout the summer, with Richardson among the latest to get in some work.
The offseason period is a great chance for incoming rookies to hit the court with their new teammates to build chemistry. After playing with a few roster players in summer league, Richardson had the opportunity to get on the court with some of the veterans.
Richardson was named to the All-Big Ten third team last season at Michigan State, averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 41.2% shooting from 3-point range as a freshman. He ranked ninth in the country in box plus-minus (plus-11.6) and 14th in offensive rating (132).
The 19-year-old debuted with the Magic in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16.5 points, 2.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and one block on 55.6% shooting from the field in two appearances. He produced 19 points and four assists in his last game on July 13.
Richardson projects to check a lot of boxes for the Magic and was a player they were even looking at with the 16th pick before trading it away. He faces an uphill battle vying for rotational minutes, but he appeared to pass the test in his first action this summer.

Colts' Shane Steichen wants to make decision at quarterback 'shortly'

After the latest preseason game, Colts' HC Shane Steichen said he would like to make a decision at starting quarterback "shortly." Following the Indianapolis Colts' second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, it sounds like a decision about who will be starting at quarterback in Week 1 is near. When speaking with reporters after the preseason game, head coach Shane Steichen said he was "very close" to making a decision, according to The Athletic's James Boyd. Steichen added that he'd "like to have a decision shortly," per the Indy Star's Joel Erickson. Both quarterbacks had strong showings in this week's preseason game. While Daniel Jones' first drive stalled out quickly and included him missing a wide-open Tyler Warren downfield, Jones bounced back on the second possession. Two explosive plays of 20 helped spark the drive and put the Colts in scoring range. Jones finished the day 7-for-11 passing for 101 yards. Richardson had a very good first possession, with him going 5-for-6 passing for 64 yards as he led a touchdown drive. Richardson also had a terrific downfield throw to Anthony Gould that was negated due to a penalty. There were a few off-target throws, but also two really nice touch passes from Richardson, and we saw that improved accuracy on the short to intermediate throws. Overall, Richardson was 6-for-10 passing for 73 yards. Throughout training camp, it's been difficult to discern from the outside looking in who has the advantage. And if things actually are that close, then one would guess the Colts go with Richardson as their starter, with his ceiling being much higher. However, we will continue to wait and see if that is the direction Steichen goes as a decision seems to be near.

Washington basketball big man Hannes Steinbach named No. 3 international recruit

247Sports has updated its international basketball recruiting rankings to Washington's benefit. Big man Hannes Steinbach is now the third-highest composite-rated international recruit in the incoming class of 2025, behind guards Dame Sarr (Duke) and Neoklis Avdalas (Virginia Tech). Steinbach is now also the No. 68 recruit in the class, which boosts Washington's composite rank to No. 15 in the country. Steinbach has exploded onto the American basketball radar since debuting for Wurzburg in the Bundesliga in September 2024. He averaged 7.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 31 regular season appearances, but stepped up when the lights got brighter. His averages jumped to 14.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in 10 postseason appearances. This summer, Steinbach also led Germany to a silver medal in the U19 World Championships, averaging 17.2 points and 14 rebounds a game and making the All-Tournament team. Steinbach and the Germans lost to now-fellow Husky JJ Mandaquit and the United States in the gold medal contest. Washington is now in the top 15 of both the composite prep and transfer ranks, according to 247Sports. Their prep class of Steinbach, Mandaquit, Jasir Rencher, Courtland Muldrew, and Mady Traore (from junior college) is No. 15. The transfer class of Desmond Claude and Wesley Yates III (USC), Christian Nitu (Florida State), Bryson Tucker (Indiana), Jacob Ognacevic (Lipscomb), Quimari Peterson (East Tennessee State), and Lathan Somerville (Rutgers) is ranked No. 13 in the country. Steinbach is expected to compete with Ognacevic, the reigning ASUN Player of the Year, for a starting job in the frontcourt this season. It's much more likely that the German will be a part of a potentially electric bench unit that could also include returning sophomore guard Zoom Diallo. Washington opens the basketball season with an exhibition against UNLV on October 19 before beginning the season in earnest with a showdown against Arkansas Pine Bluff on November 3.

The Big Ten could be proposing a massive expansion to the College Football Playoff

While we just finished the first season of a 12-team College Football Playoff, where Notre Dame went to the championship game, the Big Ten is starting to have ideas of a bigger expansion. There has already been chatter of expanding the field to 16-teams, with the Big Ten and SEC being the main benefactors of that move. On Saturday, the conference looks like they might be laying the groundwork for an even bigger expansion, either 24 for 28 teams reports ESPN's Pete Thamel. The potential proposal would see the elimination of conference title games, giving more automatic bids to power conferences, and just two at-large bids. This clearly would not be the best case for the Irish, as both the Big Ten and SEC would have 7 bids, with the ACC and Big 12 each getting five. It would have the Group of Five teams getting an extra bid as well, but it might not make a difference at all of Notre Dame continues to stay inside the top-25 teams. It's hard to imagine that won't happen, especially considering how well the program has done since Marcus Freeman took over. Personally, I hate this idea, as there aren't typically more than six teams that can realistically win a title. It also waters down an already watered down bowl season, where if you aren't in the CFP, it's almost as if it doesn't matter. I'm still in the camp that eight teams is enough, and while this past season was extremely exciting, it was drawn out too long. Imagine if this did pass how much longer the playoff would be, even with eliminating conference championship games. Another aspect of this that I don't like, its great to see the top two teams in each conference battle it. Hopefully this is just talk, as I don't think this move would be good for college football.
