Tyrann Mathieu, Derek Carr headline YouTube's Week 1 NFL broadcast team
It hasn't taken long for Tyrann Mathieu to find a new gig in the media after announcing his retirement. The former New Orleans Saints safety is working as a studio analyst for YouTube, which is broadcasting this year's season-opening Friday night game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 5. Back in Los Angeles, YouTube will be featuring Mathieu among several other retired NFL players as studio analysts on the pregame show an hour before kickoff, which has a surprising number of connections to the black and gold. One of the studio analysts will be recently-retired quarterback Derek Carr. The two former Saints captains will be joined by longtime Saints rival Cam Newton, wide receiver Brandon Marshall (who spent a month on their roster after Dez Bryant's injury in 2018), with noted Saints fan Kay Adams hosting the panel alongside YouTube fantasy football analyst Peter Overzet. The pregame show will be broadcast on the NFL's official YouTube page. So we'll be tuning in to see what they all have to say. A number of former Saints players are busy working in the media these days, ranging from Roman Harper and Benjamin Watson (on the SEC Network) to Mark Ingram II and Jonathan Vilma (on Fox Sports) and Drew Brees (who will call a game for Netflix in this year's three-game Christmas Day slate), among others.

Indiana Fever sign Odyssey Sims to second seven-day hardship contract
After contributing solid minutes off the bench over the past week, the Indiana Fever chose to sign point guard Odyssey Sims to a second seven-day hardship contract on Sunday as the team enters its five-day hiatus before its next game on Friday. In her three games played so far for the Fever, Sims is averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game on 40.7% shooting from the field, 20.0% from 3-point territory, and 77.8% from the free-throw line. Fortunately for Sims, her spot on the roster seems to be safe for now, as the team released point guard Kyra Lambert, who the Fever had signed on Thursday of last week to a seven-day hardship contract. With Lambert's release, the impending roster decisions for general manager Amber Cox will be much simpler, with Caitlin Clark potentially making her return over the next few games. As a cloud of uncertainty still surrounds the Monday MRI test results of Sophie Cunningham's knee injury, Sims' production in her small sample size adds a layer of comfort for head coach Stephanie White, regardless of Cunningham's status. Indiana's next game will be on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ION. Texas DL Colin Simmons sends subtle threat to new Ohio State QB via social media
Soon after Ohio State named redshirt freshman Julian Sayin the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes against the Longhorns on Aug. 30, Texas defensive lineman Colin Simmons sent a message to the new signal caller. Simmons simply posted an official Ohio State media picture of Sayin throwing a football. Simmons didn't include any text, caption or commentary around the image. Just the picture. As if to say, "Target Acquired!" Simmons is coming into the season as one of the best defensive prospects in college football. Today, the Duncanville High School product was named to the first team preseason AP All-American team. He's also a top five edge rusher according to PFF. The sophomore is also becoming one of the main leaders on the team. Simmons fiery personality and work ethic stand out. He's a player that leads by example. By sending a social media to the new Ohio State QB, Simmons is quietly sending a message to his team as well. Texas travels to the Horseshoe in Columbus, OH to face the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. CT.
