Reckitt eyes new options to advance Air Wick unit sale, sources say
LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - Britain's Reckitt (RKT.L), opens new tab is considering new options to advance a sale of its Essential Home business, home to Air Wick fresheners and Cillit Bang cleaners, after bids came in below expectations, two people with knowledge of the process said. The company still plans to pursue a sale, the people said, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks are private. Private equity firm Advent remains in talks for the assets, one of the people and a third person said. Reckitt, which also makes Mucinex cold medication and Durex condoms, said in July it was looking to offload a portfolio of homecare brands by the end of 2025. The proposed sale comes at a challenging time for businesses with factories around the world as they navigate U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs, which are roiling supply chains, boosting costs and dampening shopper sentiment. Reckitt could keep a stake in the business or structure a sale another way to bridge a gap in valuations, one of the people said, adding that some of the bids came in below its hopes of over 4 billion pounds ($5.4 billion). Reuters could not determine if other bidders remained in the process. Reckitt and Advent declined to comment. Bankers and CEOs have hit the brakes on mergers and acquisitions since Trump launched his trade war, with fewer deals getting signed than during the bleakest days of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2008-2009 global financial crisis. Reckitt said in April that it was "continuing to progress" the sale of the Essential Home business but that market conditions might affect the time frame. Consumer staples companies are considered relatively resilient to economic downturns, but big brands like Reckitt, P&G (PG.N), opens new tab and Unilever (ULVR.L), opens new tab increasingly face competition from cheaper private label brands that gained popularity during the pandemic. Reckitt's Essential Home business has struggled for several quarters, with sales falling 7% in the first quarter of this year to 482 million pounds, about 13% of total revenue for the quarter. Reckitt has been undergoing a turnaround under CEO Kris Licht, who has sought to reassure shareholders concerned about the strength of the company's brands in North America and Europe, where consumer confidence has been dwindling. Joe Cole urges Spurs to appoint former teammate as Ange Postecoglou replacement
If Tottenham decide to sack Ange Postecoglou despite his Europa League win, Joe Cole reckons Michael Carrick would be the ideal man to replace him in north London Joe Cole is tipping former Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick to become the club's next manager if they decide to part ways with Ange Postecoglou in the coming weeks. Big Ange still appears on the brink despite guiding Spurs to a first trophy since 2008 by landing last month's Europa League. That is because of a dire domestic campaign that saw them lose 22 matches and finish in 17th position. And if chairman Daniel Levy decides to part ways with Postecoglou soon, Cole reckons current Middlesbrough boss Carrick would be the ideal candidate to take over because he already knows how the club works from his time as a player. Cole also would like to see Glenn Hoddle return to Spurs in an advisory capacity. Cole told Paddy Power: 'At Tottenham, Daniel Levy is running out of managerial candidates for the job. He's gone big, he's gone bold, and he's gone off the beaten track, but none of them seem to have worked. 'Michael Carrick could be a good option for the manager's job. An ex-Spurs player, who understands the club, would be quite nice. 'Also, I'd like to see Glenn Hoddle back at the club in some capacity. I know Tottenham fans would love to see him back and he's got the best football brain I know. 'I'd love to see Glenn Hoddle back in the club in some capacity, maybe supporting Michael Carrick. The club needs bringing together because it was really torn at times last season.' Postecoglou won 47 of his 101 matches in charge of the club, drawing 15 and losing 39. And he had recently said he was confident that the club could push on enjoy a period of success after putting an end to the long wait for a trophy. "I've got no doubt, though, that this could be a real sort of defining moment for this club because wherever I've been, I've kind of made an impact where I've brought success to a club that hasn't had for a while, and you just have to look at those clubs' trajectory even after I've left, they're still competing for things," he told Australian media last week. "I really think this is a moment in time where this club can really push on and be a real contender for honours on a yearly basis." Spurs have already been linked with Fulham's head coach Marco Silva, who is yet to open talks over a new deal at Craven Cottage, along with Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Brentford's Thomas Frank.

Indonesia vows to provide US tariff preferences before June talks
JAKARTA, June 3 (Reuters) - Indonesia has committed to provide a list of preferred tariffs on U.S. goods before starting a second round of talks with Washington scheduled this month, its senior economy minister said on Wednesday after meeting the U.S. trade envoy. The U.S. was Indonesia's third-biggest export destination as of last year, receiving shipments worth $26.3 billion, according to Indonesian government data. The Southeast Asian country booked a $16.8 billion trade surplus with the U.S. in 2024. Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia is ready to accelerate negotiations with the U.S. before the July 3 deadline for reciprocal tariffs set by President Donald Trump in his drive to end U.S. trade deficits with countries worldwide. The Trump administration has imposed a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods but that has been paused until July along with those targeting other countries. "We are ready to continue open dialogue and overcome negotiation challenges in tariffs and non-tariff barriers, digital trade... and the issues of economic and national security," Airlangga said in a statement. Reuters was seeking U.S. comment. Airlangga, who met U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of an OECD meeting in Paris, said Indonesia hopes that a "mature and measured" approach can open space for it to build a strong and long-term partnership with the U.S. As part of the negotiation, the government has said it wants to increase U.S. energy imports by about $10 billion, including purchases of U.S. fuel, crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas. Indonesia received shipments of U.S. goods worth $26.3 billion in 2024, according to government data. The main Indonesian exports to the U.S. include electronics, apparel and clothing, and footwear.
