Chris Hemsworth's wife on why they chose to live Down Under
Elsa Pataky has revealed why she and Chris Hemsworth decided to raise a family in Australia and not her home country of Spain.
The actress, 48, who lives in Byron Bay with the Thor star, 41, and their three children, initially didn't want to live in either country, scared it would put pressure on their relationship.
'I made him promise that neither of us would force the other to live in their country, because they were so far apart,' she told realestate.com.au.
But as soon as Pataky set foot Down Under, she fell in love with everything Australia has to offer.
'It ended up happening because he took me to Australia, he showed me Byron Bay, and I fell in love, it was a paradise,' she said.
Moving here also meant the mother's dream of being surrounded by lush nature, wildlife and pets could be fulfilled.
'Living in Madrid is complicated when you've already lived in the countryside, in the middle of nature, it's hard,' she said. Pataky has previously spoken about her and her husband's decision to leave California for the Gold Coast was all about switching up perspective.
The couple found Los Angeles, where they were living before, too 'restricting'.
'When you're in Los Angeles, work suffocates you,' she told News Corp in March.
'There, all the conversations, even the billboards you see on the street, have to do with the world of cinema and its industry.
'It can make you lose perspective.'
The pair bought their estate in 2014 with the mansion featuring six big bedrooms, indoor and outdoor gyms, a media room, a spa and a bowling alley.
