Kidambi Srikanth advances to main draw of Malaysia Masters 2025
Srikanth, who is on a comeback trail, recovered from a first-game loss to defeat Chinese Taipei's Huang Yu Kai 9-21, 21-12, 21-6 in his second qualifying men's singles match.
The 32-year-old, a 2021 World Championships silver medallist, had earlier beaten another Taipei player, Kuo Kuan Lin, 21-8, 21-13 in the first round.
The former world number one will face a challenging opponent in sixth-seeded Chinese player LU Guang Zu in the main draw.
In other matches, Tharun Mannepalli fell 13-21, 21-23 to Thailand's Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, while S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian lost 20-22, 20-22 to China's Zhu Xuan Chen, both of whom ended their campaigns in the qualification stage.
In women's singles, Anmol Kharb, who was an integral part of the Asian Team gold medal last year, was defeated 14-21, 18-21 by Taipei's Hung Yi-Ting.
The mixed doubles pair of Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan also bowed out, losing 15-21, 16-21 to the Malaysian duo of Ming Yap Too and Lee Yu Shan.
Top Indian shuttlers P. V. Sindhu and H. S. Prannoy will begin their respective campaigns at the USD 475,000 event on Wednesday.

Bangladesh, Kazakhstan to be part of Asia Cup in place of Pakistan & Oman
With just 10 days to go for the first match, Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) finally announced the schedule for the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament. Pakistan, however, will not be part of it, having been replaced by Bangladesh in the eight-team tournament that will be held from Aug 29 to Sept 7 at Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar. Oman also pulled out of the tournament at the last moment, with Kazakhstan taking their place. The remaining five teams taking part in the event besides hosts India are Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and South Korea. While India have been clubbed with Japan, China and Kazakhstan in Pool A, Pool B consists of Malaysia, Korea, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei. After the pool stage, where the teams will play each other once, the top two teams from each pool will play in the Super4s. Once again it will be played in a round-robin format with the top two teams making it to the final. The winner will be awarded a spot in the FIH World Cup to be held next year in the Netherlands and Belgium. As far as the fixtures are concerned, Malaysia will play the tournament opener against Bangladesh, while India will hope to make a winning start when they take on China. Being the No. 1 side in Asia, Craig Fulton's men will undoubtedly come into the tournament as strong favourites. But hockey fans will certainly feel the absence of Pakistan. Their participation was always doubtful following the Pahalgam incident. However, the Indian govt had said it would provide visas to the players and even Hockey India was confident of their participation. But Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) refused to travel citing security concerns. Riku, Kuldeep set for Asia Cup action
1 2 3 4 5 6 Lucknow: Two UP players, chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav and batter Rinku Singh , have secured berths in the Indian squad for Asia Cup , to be played in UAE from Sep 8. The team was announced in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon. Kuldeep, who was also a part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series in England, could not make it to the playing XI in any of the five Test matches. After the Indian Premier League in May, he was not seen in action in any official matches and now will head directly to Dubai for the Asia Cup, which will be played in T20 format. Rinku Singh has seen some action in the ongoing UPT20 League. He led the Meerut Mavericks in the inaugural match and bowled a couple of overs, taking one wicket.
