Traffic comes to standstill as rain hits city, ghat areas

Pune: Just a few millimetres of rainfall in Pune city on Friday brought traffic to a grinding halt across multiple areas including Vimannagar, Tathawade underpass, Sangamwadi bridge, Sancheti Chowk and Ghole Road, among others.
Heavy to very heavy rains in ghats also caused a landslide near Borghat on the Mumbai-bound lane of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, causing extensive traffic snarls, commuters reported on X.
While Pune city saw subdued rainfall activity, heavy rains continued to lash the ghat sections in Pune, Satara and Raigad, as well as the catchment areas of dams in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Friday.
Tamhini Ghat, which connects Pune with areas in the Konkan region, recorded the highest rainfall at 210mm, followed by Kurvande (147mm), Davdi (144mm), Pophali (141mm), Lonavla (137mm), Koyna (Navja, 101mm).
Mahabaleshwar received 140 mm during this period.

A highway police official told TOI, 'Every Friday we see slow-moving traffic on the expressway due to weekend rush. The landslide that occurred at Borghat at 6 pm was cleared and not the primary cause of traffic disruption. Traffic was slow-moving on the Pune-bound lane from 6 pm to 9 pm.'
In Pune city, traffic crawled in several areas, significantly increasing travel times.

'I was stuck in traffic for almost 25 minutes in NIBM and Salunke Vihar areas. I was heading out for a meeting but missed it,' said Ajay Patil, an NIBM resident.
Priya Gupta, a daily commuter to FC Road, said, 'Traffic was moving at a snail's pace on Tilak Road, adding over 15 minutes to my journey.' A commuter from Vimannagar said, 'There was slow-moving traffic on Airport Road with long queues of vehicles at signals. Traffic police on duty and working signals were of little help.'
IMD data showed that between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Friday, Shivajinagar received just 2.9mm of rainfall, Pashan 3.1mm, Lohegaon 5.2mm, Chinchwad 8mm, Lavale 6mm and Koregaon Park 4mm. Mahabaleshwar received 43mm, while Santacruz recorded 74mm, Nashik 14mm and Solapur 4mm.
IMD has forecast moderate rains for Pune city over the weekend, with extremely heavy rainfall in the ghats on Saturday.

The maximum temperature could go upto 33-35 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature might settle at 26-28 degrees Celsius in Delhi as per IMD. Weather in Delhi NCR Along with Delhi, areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram are also likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue throughout the week, ending on Saturday, August 2, 2025. It is also to be noted that no heatwave is expected this entire week. Weather in Other Parts of India According to the weather department, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected to be witnessed in parts of East Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, south interior Karnataka, Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Heavy rainfall might also be witnessed in some isolated parts of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Saurashtra and Kutch, West Bengal and Sikkim and West Rajasthan. 'Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (30-40kmph) very likely at isolated places over Andaman Nicobar islands, Bihar, gangetic West Bengal, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Jharkhand, Odisha and Telangana,' the IMD said. Some isolated places are very likely to be hit by thunderstorm accompanied with lightning on Monday. These includes places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Uttarakhand and west Uttar Pradesh.

Weather Update For Delhi According to IMD, Delhi is likely to experience Generic cloudy skies, light to moderate rains accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. Today, temperature will vary between 23-31 Degree Celcius. Weather Insights For Delhi Residents Delhi faced continuous showers from few days, causing waterlogging in areas like ITO, Minto Bridge, and parts of Gurugram. The city continues to remain on rain watch. Delhi residents should be ready for wet roads, waterlogging, and traffic jams. Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches above the season's average on Monday morning. According to the the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 37.5 degrees Celsius. Delhiites can expect a cloudy sky with moderate rain during the day, according to the IMD. At 8:30 am, humidity levels were recorded at 76 per cent. Meanwhile, Delhi residents started their day with 'satisfactory" air quality as the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 65 on Monday. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good", 51 and 100 'satisfactory", 101 and 200 'moderate", 201 and 300 'poor", 301 and 400 'very poor", and 401 and 500 'severe".
