A major rumor shook hockey fans on June 24, 2025. NHL insider Jay Recher floated an idea that could change everything for Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. The rumor links McDavid, still under contract, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a blockbuster deal.
The bold suggestion centers around a big name already with the Bolts. This surprising plan sparked debate: is a career-changing trade actually possible?
NHL insider Jay Recher names Brayden Point as centerpiece in potential Connor McDavid trade
On Tuesday, June 24, reporter Jay Recher shared a trade scenario on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Connor McDavid headed to Tampa Bay . In this idea, Brayden Point—Tampa Bay's star center—is labeled the 'centerpiece'. Recher explained, 'Brayden Point … would be the centerpiece of this deal; obviously, you need a big gem going back.'
Along with Point, Recher said the Oilers should receive young talent Isaac Howard, a Hobey-Baker winner expected to go straight into Edmonton's lineup . He also named Jack Finley, a big-bodied centre to bolster depth, and defenseman Erik Cernak, who shoots right and makes $5.2 million .
McDavid is about to play the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract extension signed in 2015. Point, under Tampa since 2019, still has five years left on his eight-year, $76 million deal .

Jam Miller injury confirmed by Kalen DeBoer after Alabama preseason scrimmage procedure(Image via Getty) Jam Miller, the senior running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide, got hurt during the team's final practice scrimmage on Saturday, August 16, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. His head coach, Kalen DeBoer, said on Sunday, August 17, that Jam had an upper-body injury and had to get a medical procedure that same evening. Coach DeBoer said Jam should get better but did not say when he will be back. Jam Miller injury update after Alabama scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium Jam Miller is one of the most experienced players in Alabama's running back group. In 2024, he ran for 668 yards and scored 7 touchdowns on 145 carries, and also caught some passes for more yards and another score. Without his presence, Alabama will probably use a group of players to fill in. Richard Young, Daniel Hill, and Louisiana transfer Dre Washington are ready to do more work now. — on3sports (@on3sports) Some reports even say Jam may have dislocated his collarbone and could be out for six to eight weeks. That would mean he'd likely miss the first few games of the season, including the opener against Florida State on August 30. 'Don't ...': Brett Lee issues stern warning to Ravindra Jadeja despite hailing him as best all-rounder
Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill (Getty Images) Ravindra Jadeja may not have dominated with the ball in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, but with the bat, the Indian all-rounder was a revelation. The left-hander piled up 516 runs in the five-match series, including five half-centuries and a memorable ton, reaffirming his value to the side. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Former Australia pacer Brett Lee , however, believes Jadeja's greatest threat could come not from opposition bowlers but from his own trademark celebration. Poll Do you believe Ravindra Jadeja will reach the 100-Test match milestone? Yes, definitely! No, it's unlikely 'The thing with Jadeja, the only way I see him getting injured is doing a rotator cuff with his, the way he does a sword celebration. So, I love it. Look after your body. Don't celebrate too hard,' Lee said on his YouTube channel, sounding both admiring and concerned. Lee, who rates Jadeja as the best all-rounder in world cricket today, added that no one comes close to matching his complete skillset. 'He has everything that a cricketer needs, and I think he actually ticks every single box. He does the basics right… arguably the best in the world,' he observed. At 36, Jadeja continues to be among the fittest in the Indian setup, something Lee sees as a cornerstone of his success. 'He's the fittest in the team. He prides himself on being the fittest, and to me, that is probably the reason why he never shies away from those big moments. He likes to be in the game. He's an entertainer,' Lee said. The former speedster also predicted Jadeja will soon join the elite 100-Test club. 'He's punched out 85 Test matches for his country already, and I believe he will go past that magical 100 barrier. Anyone who's played 100 Tests is a GOAT in my opinion,' Lee asserted. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
