A major rumor shook hockey fans on June 24, 2025. NHL insider Jay Recher floated an idea that could change everything for Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. The rumor links McDavid, still under contract, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a blockbuster deal.
The bold suggestion centers around a big name already with the Bolts. This surprising plan sparked debate: is a career-changing trade actually possible?
NHL insider Jay Recher names Brayden Point as centerpiece in potential Connor McDavid trade
On Tuesday, June 24, reporter Jay Recher shared a trade scenario on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Connor McDavid headed to Tampa Bay . In this idea, Brayden Point—Tampa Bay's star center—is labeled the 'centerpiece'. Recher explained, 'Brayden Point … would be the centerpiece of this deal; obviously, you need a big gem going back.'
Along with Point, Recher said the Oilers should receive young talent Isaac Howard, a Hobey-Baker winner expected to go straight into Edmonton's lineup . He also named Jack Finley, a big-bodied centre to bolster depth, and defenseman Erik Cernak, who shoots right and makes $5.2 million .
McDavid is about to play the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract extension signed in 2015. Point, under Tampa since 2019, still has five years left on his eight-year, $76 million deal .

His fielding display, dropping four catches across both innings, left many fans upset as it accounted for 165 runs more for England batters. The young batter then faced mocking from England fans at Headingley as they jokingly celebrated each time Jaiswal fielded successfully. The best fielders have missed catches. None of them did it on purpose," India coach Gautam Gambhir told reporters in the post-match press conference. Shubman Gill didn't have a positive start to his reign as India Test captain. He said the dropped catches and batting collapses were not the main reason they lost. "A brilliant Test, we had our chances. Dropped catches, lower order not contributing cost us," he said in the post-match presentation. "Yesterday, we were thinking of giving them 430, but our last wickets fell for 25," Gill noted. The 6-foot-9 Duke phenom has captivated the basketball world with his jaw-dropping skill set, earning comparisons to some of the game's greatest players. But none have been as wild, or as viral, as Kendrick Perkins' now-infamous declaration live on ESPN. Kendrick Perkins stirs the pot with an outlandish Cooper Flagg comparison with LeBron James and Kevin Garnett Perkins, a former NBA champion and now full-time hot-take machine for ESPN, lit up social media when he offered his explosive analogy during ESPN's pre-draft coverage. While many fans initially laughed it off, Perkins backed up his statement with sincere admiration. 'This is how I look at Cooper Flagg,' he said. 'If LeBron James and Kevin Garnett had a baby, you'd get Cooper Flagg.' Moments later, he explained why the comparison may be less outlandish than it sounds. 'When you think about LeBron James, you think of a complete basketball player. He [Flagg] led the team in everything. That's a LeBron James type of thing,' Perkins continued. 'When you talk about his passion, his tenacity, I'm watching KG. He plays at a high level. We don't give players like Cooper Flagg enough credit. On This Day: In 1983, Kapil Dev's devils stunned the mighty West Indies to win the World Cup

Kapil Dev By 1983, India already had a proud cricketing legacy and several iconic players, but they still lacked a major international trophy. One-day cricket was a relatively new format, and India—yet to don the now-famous blue kits and still playing in whites—struggled to find their rhythm in it. Across the previous two editions of the World Cup, they had won just one out of six group-stage matches. Led by a young and spirited Kapil Dev , the 1983 squad held promise but were far from favourites. Even as they progressed steadily to the final, few gave them a real shot. Their opponents at Lord's were the all-conquering West Indies—a side so dominant that their aura alone was enough to rattle teams. Unbeaten in both the 1975 and 1979 World Cups, the West Indies were expected to clinch their third consecutive title. Although India had stunned them once earlier in the tournament at Old Trafford, that 34-run victory was widely viewed as a fluke, especially in the face of West Indies' crushing wins that followed—by margins like 101 runs, 8 wickets, and even 10 wickets. Heading into the final, the script seemed clear: West Indies would crush India and complete a hat-trick of titles. And early in the match, it looked like that script was playing out. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Yes, absolutely No, not really But Kapil Dev's men believed otherwise. Sandhu removed Greenidge early, and soon the Windies found themselves five down for just 66. Kapil's incredible running catch to dismiss Viv Richards turned the tide. Madan Lal and Amarnath cleaned up the rest. Against all odds, India sealed their place in cricketing history by being crowned world champions for the first time. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story.
