DUBAI – Bain & Company, in collaboration with the World Governments Summit (WGS), has launched the Sustainability Readiness Tool, an innovative AI-powered solution designed to help organizations assess and enhance their sustainability preparedness. This tool builds on insights from Bain's research, including last year's LEAD report, which examined how businesses in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are integrating sustainability into their operations.
According to Bain's research, nearly 70% of organizations in MENA report incorporating sustainability into their business models. However, only 3% are on track to achieve their sustainability goals. This gap underscores the urgent need for actionable insights and strategic interventions, which the new tool aims to provide.
'This tool provides organizations with a structured approach to assess their sustainability readiness and align with global best practices. And as global sustainability challenges intensify, it is crucial for organizations to take decisive action.' said Samer Bohsali, Senior Partner and EMEA Leader of the Public Sector practice at Bain & Company.
A Data-Driven Approach to Sustainability Readiness
The Sustainability Readiness Tool is built upon Bain's extensive research into what differentiates leading organizations in sustainability. Through its LEAD Framework, Bain has identified four key aspects that set sustainability leaders apart:
L ink sustainability ambitions to corporate strategies: Sustainability becomes a core part of the business strategy and is managed in tandem with other corporate targets.
E ngage cross-functional teams: They remove boundaries and build organization-wide ownership for sustainable outcomes. They also develop skills and organizational structures to support sustainability.
A ctivate achievable sustainability missions: Ideation is bi-directional, so sustainability missions are co-developed and then verified through bottom-up assessments.
D rive innovation and rapidly scale sustainable business solutions: Leaders establish agile systems to accelerate, test, and scale sustainability solutions.
'The launch of The Sustainability Readiness Tool represents a significant step forward in helping businesses navigate the complexities of sustainability transformation. Many organizations recognize the importance of sustainability, but few have a clear roadmap to achieve their goals. The tool provides the necessary insights and benchmarking to bridge this gap. 'said Wissam Yassine, Partner and leader in the Sustainability practice at Bain & Company Middle East.
How the Tool Works
The AI-powered assessment consists of 27 questions, helping organizations gauge their sustainability readiness.
Users receive a benchmarking analysis, allowing them to compare their performance against industry leaders.
The tool generates a detailed report with actionable recommendations to enhance sustainability integration across business operations.
Benchmarking Against Industry Leaders
One of the key features of the Sustainability Readiness Tool is its ability to provide organizations with a strategic benchmarking framework against industry leaders that are setting the standard for sustainability. The tool goes beyond simple comparisons by offering deep insights into best practices, innovation drivers, and emerging sustainability trends within top-performing companies such as Emirates NBD, Fakhruddin Holdings, FAB, SAB, Bain & Company, Acwa Power, Taqa, E& and EGA. By analyzing how these organizations integrate sustainability into their core business models, supply chains, and operational strategies, companies can:
Identify key gaps in their own sustainability approach and prioritize high-impact initiatives.
Develop targeted strategies that align with global sustainability benchmarks and regulatory expectations.
Enhance competitive positioning by adopting proven best practices and innovations that drive long-term value.
Leverage data-driven insights to build stakeholder confidence, improve ESG ratings, and attract sustainability-conscious investors.
This benchmarking functionality serves as a powerful decision-making tool, enabling businesses to transform sustainability from a compliance-driven obligation into a strategic growth enabler.
Bridging the Gap Between Aspiration and Action
As sustainability continues to be a top priority for governments and businesses worldwide, the Sustainability Readiness Tool provides a practical solution for organizations seeking to move from intent to impact. By leveraging AI-driven insights and Bain's strategic expertise, companies can accelerate their sustainability journey and align more effectively with global sustainability goals.
The Sustainability Readiness Tool is now available for organizations looking to assess and advance their sustainability strategies. For more information, visit (https://sustainability.worldgovernmentssummit.org) or contact Sustainability.Readiness@bain.com.

IGC leading Oman's gas transformation: Advancing industry, empowering the nation
Muscat – As Oman accelerates its economic diversification under Vision 2040, the Integrated Gas Company (IGC) has emerged as a pivotal force in strengthening the country's energy backbone—unlocking industrial potential, driving national growth, and securing the future of Oman's gas value chain. Since its establishment in late 2022, IGC has transformed the structure and governance of Oman's gas sector, becoming the exclusive entity responsible for gas aggregation, supply contracts, and allocation across the Sultanate. Today, IGC oversees the management of over 44 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually balancing domestic industrial demand, power generation, and LNG export commitments with unmatched operational agility and transparency. A key milestone in this national journey is IGC's recent approval of a strategic pipeline connecting Fahud to Sohar, with an extension to Ibri. The 193-kilometre infrastructure is not just a pipeline; it is a symbol of IGC's future-ready vision—designed to enable industrial zones, empower new economic clusters, and reinforce Oman's standing as a regional energy hub. 'Gas is more than an energy source—it's the engine of Oman's industrial growth,' said Abdul Rahman Al Yahyaei, Chief Executive Officer of IGC. 'At IGC, our role goes beyond supply. We are orchestrating a national strategy that ensures every molecule of gas fuels long-term value for our industries, our people, and our economy.' IGC's operating model brings together supply-demand forecasting, transparent allocation systems, and advanced digital tools like Oman's first spot gas auction platform. These innovations are strengthening gas availability for over 134 end-users across power, petrochemicals, metals, and manufacturing sectors—ensuring no opportunity is missed in turning gas into national gain. Through strategic projects like the Sohar–Ibri pipeline and its rigorous stakeholder engagement, IGC is fostering confidence in Oman's industrial capabilities. The pipeline alone will increase the gas network length by 4.5% and serve two high-potential industrial hubs, catalyzing new investments and jobs across value chains. In parallel, IGC's role in supporting clean energy transitions is gaining momentum. From transitional gas supply to green steel projects like Vulcan in Duqm to enabling gas-based low-carbon growth, IGC is ensuring that Oman's energy mix evolves without compromising reliability or resilience. As the exclusive gas shipper and national aggregator, IGC not only administers Oman's gas but defines its future. With every pipeline built, every contract executed, and every allocation optimized, IGC fuels the ambitions of a nation on the rise. About IGC: The Integrated Gas Company SAOC (IGC), established in 2022, is Oman's national gas aggregator, tasked with overseeing gas purchase, sales, allocation, and supply infrastructure development. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, IGC works to deliver secure, sustainable, and strategically optimized gas solutions that empower industries, support innovation, and drive inclusive national growth.

Crypto to become UAE's second-biggest sector in 5 years — Institutional investor
The crypto sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is on track to become its second-largest industry in the next five years, due to the country's regulatory policies and attractive business environment, according to Chase Ergen, a board member of publicly traded digital asset investment firm DeFi Technologies. 'They have a reputation for leadership, legislation, and community,' Ergen told Cointelegraph in an interview. He also predicted: 'They sell oil, that's their main business. I think their second-biggest business is going to be the blockchain industry in the next five years. This will start to be double-digit parts of the economy.' The country has a clear crypto regulatory framework, a community of key crypto industry executives, a debt-free economy that allows the government to funnel surplus into tech investments, low crime, attractive tax policies, and forward-thinking leadership, Ergen added. The UAE has created a moat that has made it the undisputed hub for crypto and tech in the Middle East and Africa (MENA) amid growing nation-state adoption of crypto and the race between sovereign powers to become global leaders in the digital finance age. Nation-state crypto adoption ramps up in 2025 Nation-state crypto adoption accelerated in 2025, following the inauguration of president Donald Trump in the United States and the regulatory shift that followed. The Trump White House released its long-promised crypto report in July, outlining the administration's plan to make the US the global leader in crypto. Pakistan's government reversed its long-held opposition to cryptocurrencies in November 2024, one day before the US presidential election. Since that time, Pakistan has established a national Bitcoin reserve and appointed a national crypto council to craft a comprehensive digital asset regulatory framework within the country. Sovereign wealth funds, including the UAE's Mubadala and Norway's sovereign fund, have exposure to Bitcoin through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and other investment vehicles. Norway's sovereign wealth fund, the largest state-directed investment fund of its kind in the world, increased its Bitcoin exposure by 192% over the last year, according to crypto research firm K33.
