Inabel weavers exhibit ‘Ilocano Shark'-inspired logo ahead of Palaro 2025
The 65th Palarong Pambansa unveiled some handwoven creations depicting the official icon for the upcoming 65th Palarong Pambansa made by traditional Inabel weavers from Ilocos Norte, where this year's national games for student-athletes will be held.
Woven by Jeanette Rico and Mary Anne Caoagas, Inabel weavers from Barangay Nalasin in Paoay, the fabric showcases the official icon of the Palarong Pambansa 2025 crafted on traditional wooden loom machines.
Small iterations of the tournament logo–a pixelated figure that takes after the silhouette of Ilocano swimming legend Teofilo Yldefonso in his iconic hands-on-the-waist pose during the 1928 Olympics– were delicately handwoven on the white Abel cloth in red and blue threads.
According to a shared Facebook post by Ilocos Norte Tourism and Ilocos Norte-Palarong Pambansa, the symbol is an homage to the Ilocano breaststroke swimmer– himself a two-time Olympic bronze getter– which 'embodies the triumphs born of perseverance, and the heritage that threads every Ilocano victory.'
Yldefonso was a highly decorated swimmer from Piddig, Ilocos Norte, and the first Filipino to have won an Olympic medal when he bagged bronze during the 1928 Summer Games in Amsterdam.
The 65th Palarong Pambansa, the country's largest sports event for student-athletes in elementary and high school, will be held in Laoag, Ilocos Norte from May 24 to May 31, 2025.

Carlos' girlfriend Chloe also had good words for him after his competition. 'Thank you for showing the world what quiet strength and unwavering dedication look like. And I thank the universe every day for the blessing of witnessing your journey up close,' she wrote in her post. Carlos Yulo wins floor exercise gold in Asian Gymnastics Championships for fourth straight year
Carlos Yulo remains as the king of floor exercise as he won gold in the said event again in this year's Asian Gymnastics Championships in South Korea. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Yulo topped the eight finalists with a score of 14.600 to rule the finals. Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan placed second with 14.400, while Moon Geonyoung of South Korea finished third with 14.033. This is Yulo's fourth straight year winning gold in floor exercise as he also won in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 editions, and his second medal in this year's edition as he bagged bronze in individual all-around last Thursday. In last year's Paris Olympics, Yulo also won gold in the said event. Yulo also competed in the still rings finals but finished seventh with a score of 13.233. Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial to fight in Pacquiao-Barrios undercard

REUTERS/Maye-E Wong Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial is fulfilling his dream of fighting alongside Manny Pacquiao as he will be in one of the undercard fights in Pacman's match against Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 29-year old Marcial will take on 30-year old American Alexis Gaytan in an eight-round middleweight non-title bout on the same date, according to MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons. 'Ever since I started boxing, the reason I started I was so inspired by Manny Pacquiao as a kid when I watched him fighting on TV,' Marcial said. 'It was my dream to always fight along and eventually and to be on a card with Manny Pacquiao.' Marcial bagged the bronze medal in the Olympics back in 2021 in Tokyo, but fell short in his bid for another medal last 2024 in Paris. As a professional, Marcial has a 5-0 record, with three knockouts. He last fought professionally in March 2023 in the Philippines where he knocked out Thailand's Thoedsak Sinam in the fourth round. Gaytan, meanwhile, has a 17-10 record with six knockouts. Marcial arrived in the United States on Tuesday, along with Jerwin Ancajas, Mark Magsayo, and Jonas Sultan, to join Pacquiao in training camp. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
