Original Fantastic Four from 20 years ago with ‘perfect cast' is streaming as Marvel reboot hits screens
Marvel's earlier attempts at superhero blockbusters are currently streaming on Disney+ as yet another comic book reboot hits screens this week.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth attempt to bring the first superhero family to the big screen.
Following Roger Corman's unreleased version from the 1990s and preceding the much-maligned 2015 reboot, two films starring the beloved superhero squad were released to relative success in 2005 and 2007.
Both Fantastic Four and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, are available to stream on Disney+, and it's the perfect time for fans to remind themselves of the franchise's humble beginnings.
Some would even argue that the cast of these noughties cult classics, including Ioan Gruffudd as Mister Fantastic, Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Human Torch and Michael Chiklis as the Thing, is even better than the new ensemble.
The two films also feature Julian McMahon, who sadly passed away this year, as the iconic nemesis of the Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom.
One Google reviewer defended the first film from lacklustre reviews: 'AMAZING I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS.
'This movie is not only funny but has a very clear plot that establishes the characters (perfect casting for each role btw) compared to the new one this is absolutely perfect in every way.
'It has a good replay value and it's an overall fun movie. If you're thinking of watching the 2015 one DONT this one is actually a movie with some value to it.'
Someone else raved: 'Amazing Movie, Many call it cheesy, personally I don't see that. I believe the casting is amazing, They look very close to the Comics.'
The praise continued on Letterboxd with a nostalgic fan writing: 'This cast was so perfect it actually amazes me.

'I wish we got something better than this movie and I wish the cast had a better script to work with but it still holds a very special place in my heart.
'Entirely nostalgic. It's so 2005 and I f***ing love it.'
Another said: 'This is legitimately a perfect superhero film. There's so much heart in this and it's so fun, and campy, and charming. The casting is just impeccable.'
And a final user posted: 'This is one of my comfort movies. The amount of times I watched it as a kid is unhealthy. It is like watching a comic book in motion.
'Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis are the peak of casting.'
With Marvel's famous family returning to the big screen this week, don't forget to return to the Fantastic Four's roots to appreciate just how far they've come.

Tom Hiddleston's fiancée sets record straight on wedding claims and reveals ‘toxic paragraphs' from family members
Zawe Ashton has been with the Marvel star for over six years TRUTH TIME Tom Hiddleston's fiancée sets record straight on wedding claims and reveals 'toxic paragraphs' from family members Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE MARVELS star Zawe Ashton has set the record straight amid rumours she's secretly married long-time love Tom Hiddleston. The famous couple have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye, going public for the first time in 2021 after a rumoured two years of dating. When the announcement noted Tom as Zawe's 'husband', rumours started circulating that they had secretly tied the knot. This week, Zawe joined longtime pal Miquita Oliver on her Miss Me? podcast, clearing up the speculation – and revealing even family members had believed it, sending her upsetting messages in the process after 'not being invited'. She told Miquita: 'We've been engaged for a long time. There are … I think there have been publications that have named us husband and wife already.' 'Like 'uh, okay, no invite? Whatever.' It's like, no, no, no. It didn't happen! We didn't do it in secret. We haven't eloped.' Despite the pair not making it official, Zawe did note that the pair do call each other husband and wife, which may have been where the confusion came from. She added: 'It's just a semantics thing. I think at some point you're like 'girlfriend, boyfriend' … with a kid and another one on the way? Does that feel right?' Zawe – who first shot to fame on Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat in the early 2000s – added that for some reason it 'p***ed off married couples' that they call each other husband and wife without actually getting married. Tom and Zawe have been running in similar social circles throughout their career, and were first photographed at a friendly event in 2018 celebrating the career of Harold Pinter. After a West End run in 2019, the show was transferred to Broadway, with the pair reprising their roles – during that time, it was noted they had got close. They finally went public with their first official outing as a couple at the Tony Awards in 2021. Since then, Zawe joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Marvels' villain Dar-Benn. ITV star eyes up Blind Date presenter role as Disney+ reboot confirmed after six years
EXCLUSIVE: Blind Date is returning to television screens for the first time in six years and former TOWIE star Bobby Norris is set to host the rebooted matchmaking show Former The Only Way Is Essex star Bobby Norris has put himself forward to host the reboot of Blind Date. It has been confirmed that Disney+ is bringing back the iconic matchmaking show reimagined for a contemporary audience. The new series will begin in a secret location where contestants must choose between three potential suitors hidden from view behind the legendary Blind Date wall, the only thing standing between them and their potential true love just metres away. With a host of unique, innovative and head-turning format twists, daters will see if forever love can truly grow as they spend the summer living together but potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall. The 10-part series will start production later this year and reality TV regular Bobby, who appeared in TOWIE from 2012 until 2021, is up for fronting the show. Speaking in an exclusive chat during a shoot with WhichBingo, presenter Bobby said: "Bobby's Blind Date. " Paul O'Grady and Cilla Black were legends so they're big shoes to fill but I think we could do it." Blind Date originally ran with Cilla as host on Saturday nights from November 30 1985 to May 31 2003 on ITV. The show returned in 2017 on Channel 5 with Paul presenting the revived programme until it ended in 2019. Melanie Sykes became the new voice of the show, taking over the role most famously held by Graham Skidmore in the original series. The show had a format similar to the series known in Australia as Perfect Match or in the US as The Dating Game. Three singles of the same sex were introduced to the audience and were then asked a question by a single individual of the opposite sex, who could hear but not see them, to choose with whom to go on a date. The couple then picked an envelope naming their destination and the following episode showed the couple on their date, as well as interviews with them about the date and each other. Locations ranged from Bognor Regis or a date in an ice cream factory, to Anguilla or the Maldives.

Netflix movie dominates global top 10 with 47 million views in just 3 days
Link is copied Comments Summer blockbuster season is in full swing at the cinema - and it's the same story on Netflix. Because just as we're all flocking to the movies to catch Superman and the Fantastic Four in full flight, so too are people embracing the streaming platform's seasonal offerings in their millions. In fact this week's top three all boast viewing figures which at any other time of year would have secured them the number one spot - but like we said, it's competitive out there at the moment. Read on for this week's global most-watched movie chart... (Picture: Getty Images) Tyler Perry's on a Netflix roll at the moment following the enormous success of his psychological thriller Straw, and now his latest comedy is following suit, which sees the return of mouthy matriarch Madea. This outing sees the comic character heading to the Bahamas, as the daughter of Madea's nephew Brian (also played by Perry) prepares to tie the knot with a rapper. Plenty of slapstick and hi-jinks ensue, along with a healthy dose of heartwarming family drama (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) The first of this week's new entries comes courtesy of the ongoing Trainwreck series, which aims to shine a light on events, celebrations and situations which all went drastically wrong. PI Moms takes a deep dive into the 2010 Lifestime reality show of the same name about soccer moms turned private investigators - which ended badly when the head of their agency became embroiled in scandal (Picture: Netflix) Moving down the chart is this Brazilian comedy‑drama from director Felipe Joffily that's charmed audiences across the world with its messy familial twists and warm humour. It boasts a cast that sparkles with chemistry, though critics were quick to point out that it has more than a few predictable plot points - although the fact it's added another six million viewers to its tally suggests that's not too much of an issue (Picture: Netflix) The second new entry of the week is this psychological drama from Indonesia, which is keeping viewers across the world enthralled. A Normal Woman tells the story of a socialite whose life is disrupted by a mystery illness, which in turn forces her to confront her environment and question her own identity. Expect some complex themes, including madness and isolation, to be explored in this one (Picture: Netflix/Everett/Shutterstock) It might have been described as 'the ultimate grandmother of all bad movies ever made', yet this German sci-fi thriller continues to prove popular. The movie follows couple Tim and Olivia, who find themselves trapped in their apartment block after a mysterious, impenetrable brick wall springs up outside their door. When they discover their neighbours are facing the same fate, they are forced to work together to find an escape route (Picture: Netflix/Sasha Ostrov) Netflix's South Korean psychological thriller set in a claustrophobic apartment building is continuing to keep audiences gripped. The film centres on a man who invests his life savings into an apartment - only to discover there are some unsettling secrets lurking beneath his new home. Film reviewers applauded its tense atmosphere and sharp production design, though some found the specifics of the 'mystery' a little predictable (Picture: Young-Uk Jeon/Netlix) This quiet indie flick, which combines fall foliage with emotional isolation, continues to impress, vaulting up the top 10 this week and nearly doubling its viewing figures in the process. One of those movies that does what it says on the tin, it's the true story of Donn Fendler, a 12-year-old boy left to fight for survival after a storm separates him from his family - and leaves him trapped on a treacherous mountain (Picture: Everett/Shutterstock) Given the arrival of the long-belated sequel to Happy Gilmore, it's no surprise to see the original make an appearance in the charts. And what an appearance it is, with the 1996 Adam Sandler comedy driving all the way into the top three. The funnyman plays the title character, an aspiring hockey player who joins the PGA tour in a bid to make some money and save his grandmother's house. Mayhem ensues, of course (Picture: Universal/ Kobal/Shutterstock) In any other week KPop Demon Hunters' huge viewing figures would have seen it taking the top spot very comfortably. However the animated musical fantasy's time at the top has come to an end this week, despite adding more than 26 million more views to its tally. It follows Huntrix, a world-renowned K-pop girl band who are leading double lives as demon hunters - which comes in handy when they have to face off against a rival boy band, The Saja Boys - who are secretly demons (Picture: NETFLIX) And so to the movie that's seen off all competition over the past few days, scoring a hole in one with an astonishing number of views in just three days. Nearly 30 years on from the original Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler once again picks up his golf clubs and returns to the title role, this time with our hero - now a retired, widowed alcoholic - heading back to the golf course in a bid to finance his daughter's overseas ballet school. Will there be chaos? You betcha (Picture: Netflix/Shutterstock)
