Report: Packers RB Emanuel Wilson avoids serious knee injury

USA Today02-08-2025
Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson avoided a serious knee injury at Friday's practice and shouldn't miss much time, according to reporting from Bill Huber of SI.com.
Wilson, the team's backup running back behind Josh Jacobs last season, went down awkwardly while attempting to catch a pass during a team period on Friday. Despite initial concerns of a major injury, it appears Wilson avoided a worst-case scenario and will eventually return during training camp. Huber described the injury as a "tweak" and reported there is "no damage" inside the knee.
The Packers are already without running back MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his groin during the team's first padded practice of the week and is expected to miss time into next week.
Wilson rushed 103 times for 502 yards and four touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 48 yards and another touchdown across 17 games last season.
The Packers also have veteran Chris Brooks, rookies Jalen White and Amir Johnson and recent addition Israel Abanikanda at running back behind Jacobs entering the team's Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Saturday.
The Packers open the preseason next Saturday at Lambeau Field against the New York Jets.

Recapping Packers training camp practice: An eventful day in Green Bay

Tuesday's open practice -- the third-to-last open practice in Green Bay -- began with news of surgery for quarterback Jordan Love and ended with starting receiver Romeo Doubs going out with a new injury. Matt LaFleur's team is banged up ahead of Thursday's joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts. But that's life in the NFL, and the Packers will need to adjust to life without a few key players over the final two weeks of the preseason. Both LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst -- who broke the Love surgery news -- spoke to the media before the practice, which ran for almost two hours. Recapping Tuesday's eventful day in Green Bay: Injury updates Quarterback Jordan Love had surgery on a ligament injury in his left thumb on Tuesday morning. The Packers are hopeful he can return to practice next week and are confident he'll be ready for Week 1, but Love isn't expected to play in the final two preseason games. General manager Brian Gutekunst said receiver Christian Watson is ahead of schedule in his recovery from ACL surgery but is still likely to start the season on the PUP list. At practice, left tackle Rasheed Walker, running backs Emanuel Wilson and MarShawn Lloyd and cornerback Kamal Hadden all returned to 11-on-11 work. In addition to Love, running back Israel Abanikanda was the other new injury. He has a hamstring issue and didn't practice. Big things to know With injuries piling up at running back, the Packers signed Tyrion Davis-Price, a third-round pick of the 49ers in the 2022 draft. While Rasheed Walker returned, Jordan Morgan got the first reps at left tackle in 11-on-11. Walker eventually replaced him at left tackle, and Morgan moved to right guard. The Packers are giving Morgan every opportunity to be a starter somewhere. Receiver Romeo Doubs left practice with an undisclosed injury. The Packers are getting thin at receiver; Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson are already out with injuries, and rookie Savion Williams has been in and out of the lineup. Malik Willis threw a touchdown passes to Luke Musgrave, but he was also picked by Edgerrin Cooper early in 11-on-11 work and then threw a pick under pressure to Evan Williams to end practice. Matthew Golden dropped his first pass of training camp. The rookie also made a big catch over the middle from Willis. Brandon McManus finished his day with three makes over 50 yards. He's now 46-for-50 on kicks during training camp. Matt LaFleur press conference Brian Gutekunst press conference What's next The Packers head to Indiana to face the Colts in a joint practice on Thursday. The event is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m CT. On Saturday, the two teams face off at Lucas Oil Stadium in the preseason.

Tyrod Taylor injury update: Jets QB out for rest of preseason after knee procedure

The New York Jets will have to navigate the rest of the preseason without their backup quarterback, but the team is holding out hope that it will be at full strength behind center by Week 1. Tyrod Taylor underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will continue to remain out through the rest of the exhibition slate, Jets coach Aaron Glenn said in a news conference Tuesday. "He's still going through his protocols as far as his rehab, so we'll see exactly where he is in the next couple weeks," Glenn said. Taylor, 36, is expected to provide a veteran presence behind Justin Fields, whom the team signed to a two-year, $40 million contract in March. As Aaron Rodgers' backup in 2024, the 14-year veteran appeared in two games and completed 17 of 22 passing attempts for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Fields, who completed three of four passes for 34 yards and ran for a touchdown in last week's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, said earlier in the month he hoped he would play alongside the first-string offense in each preseason contest. The Jets open the season on Sept. 7 against Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jets QB depth chart With Taylor out, undrafted rookie Brady Cook and 2024 United Football League MVP Adrian Martinez could be in line for extensive work in the remaining two preseason games, with the next tilt coming Saturday against the New York Giants. Here's the way the Jets QBs are listed:
