Tributes paid after death of young Irishman in drowning tragedy in Portugal: ‘The most caring and genuine lad'
Mr McCahey, who hailed from the Magercloone area of Co Monaghan, was a well-liked and familiar face in Magheracloone Service Station where locals have been poignantly paying their own respects to the affable former Ballynagearn National School pupil.
One of Mr McCahey's past teachers told of how she will always remember a pupil who was 'truly bright, kind-hearted and thoughtful' in every way.
They were soundings which were given further weight by a number of other locals who referenced Mr McCahey's likeable and amiable persona as a key member of staff in the local filling station, more colloquially known at Justin's.
'We are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden and untimely passing of Dylan we knew him from working in Justin's he always was a pleasant young man who was always smiling,' said one local couple.
That endearing demeanour were reflected by the sentiments of another local woman who spoke of how the tight-knit south Monaghan parish had been left numbed by the loss of the much admired biomedical science graduate.
'Dylan was amazing young lad with always a friendly smile,' she said.
'He will be so missed and many a good chat we had about football in the shop.'

Another local woman said the young Monaghan man was someone who oozed warmth and kindness, virtues that were epitomised in every aspect of his daily life.
"(He was) the most kind, caring, genuine, happy lad, (who) always put a smile on everyone's faces,' she candidly wrote.
Local Cllr Colm Carthy said the legacy left by one of the locality's most inimitable and personable of characters would undeniably stand the test of time.
'Dylan was well known in the area, he was very well got by all his peers and by the community at large,' he told the Irish Independent.
'He was very popular in his local workplace, Magheracloone filling station and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this tragic and difficult time.'
A death notice on RIP.ie told of how the young Monaghan man has passed away 'tragically, whilst on holiday in Portugal'.
A post read: 'It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dylan McCahey. Tonaneave, Magheracloone Co Monaghan, 17th May 2025, tragically, whilst on holiday in Portugal.
'Dylan, sadly missed and forever remembered with love by his heartbroken family; his parents PJ and Geraldine, his brother Alan and his sister Caitlin (Colin), his grannies Bridget McCahey and Teresa McPhillips, his uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.'
A spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it had been made aware of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and were providing consular assistance to his family.

Cwmbran High School bans 30 from year 11 leavers prom
The students at Cwmbran High School have been excluded from their year 11 leavers prom because they did not accumulate enough 'prom points' to attend. Many parents received an email from the school, which stated: 'Good afternoon parent/carer, as you are aware we have been waiting as long as possible leading up to May half term to make a final decision on students who are invited to attend Prom 2025. 'We have left it until this point to allow every student the opportunity to accumulate the necessary Prom points and meet the criteria to attend. 'Unfortunately, your child will not be invited to prom as a result of not meeting multiple set criteria that was outlined at the beginning of the year.' 'What a way to crush their spirit during the most stressful time of their childhood.' She told the Argus: 'We moved from London in August, medication was hard to get hold of, so Dylan struggled in the beginning. 'I requested a meeting with the head as they kept excluding Dylan for ADHD behaviour. 'I sent multiple emails to the head, all ignored, once support was in place Dylan settled better. He has been doing so well in his exams and was so looking forward to prom. 'For two days after Dylan was told he could not go, he was upset, deflated and depressed, said there was nothing to look forward to.' 'I'm so angry as they seemed to have picked 30 kids out from nowhere.' The criteria is explained to pupils and parents throughout the year. 'Unfortunately, if a pupil's behaviour and attendance consistently falls below acceptable levels, they are no longer able to attend. We understand this can be very disappointing for those pupils and their families, but maintaining standards is an important part of our commitment to fostering a respectful and responsible school culture.' The decision has promoted a reaction on social media, with some locals are even calling for a rival community prom. Keri Bates said: 'Everyone else should refuse to go too. Start standing together against the powers that be at a young age. 'Someone should arrange an alternative prom where everyone is invited.' It's set to be a huge series of Celebrity Race Across the World as a Hollyoaks and Derry Girls star is the latest celeb to join the line-up, according to reports A former Hollyoaks star is the latest famous face to sign up for BBC's Celebrity Race Across the World, according to reports. Fans of the Liverpool based soap will remember Dylan Llewellyn as cheeky character Martin "Jono" Johnson, as he's set to appear on screens once again. Since leaving the soap in 2016, the star has appeared in a number of high profile TV shows including Derry Girls, Big Boys and Beyond Paradise. Dylan's latest venture will now see him racing across the globe with a team mate in hopes to beat his competitors, without the help of a phone or credit card. The Mirror has contacted a representative of the show for comment. Despite his TV success, Dylan previously admitted to going through a rough patch in his career. While chatting on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, he shared his near brush with giving up acting: "I was struggling a bit and I was almost like going to give up on acting, you know?" 'And I just wasn't getting any auditions, and yeah, it was just a really quiet period and I was working in a coffee shop and just grafting because that's like the realities of acting. You've got to graft, you know, it's a really tough industry.' He revealed to the Guardian that his breakthrough role as James in Derry Girls came just in time. "It was emotional, really. I was about to give up. It really meant the world to me. It saved me," he said. Earlier this week it was reported that Molly Rainford and Tyler West have signed up for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to reports. The EastEnders star, 24, and Kiss FM presenter, 29, who met on BBC dance show Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, are said to have already filmed the smash-hit series in which a bunch of celebrities partake in an epic race across the world without their phones or credit cards to help. The last series, which aired last summer saw stars, including Kelly Brook, Scott Mills, Jeff Brazier and Kola Bokinni race across South America. Speaking on the reported signing of the Strictly couple, a source told The Sun: "Molly and Tyler are a huge coup for the show. They're popular with millions of viewers from their stints on Strictly, and Molly will bring in loads of EastEnders fans too." Molly and Tyler's relationship blossomed during the Strictly Live Tour in 2023, and things have been going from strength to strength ever since.
