Trackhouse Racing Signs Shane van Gisbergen to Multi-Year Extension
The team announced Friday that the Auckland, New Zealand native will continue "for years to come." No further terms were released.
With victories from the pole position at Mexico City, Chicago and Sonoma Raceway, van Gisbergen has secured the fourth seed in the 2025 playoffs with three races remaining in the regular season.
"I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home," van Gisbergen, 36, said in a release.
After winning three championships in the Australian-based Supercars series, van Gisbergen was hired by Trackhouse two years ago as part of its Project 91 program to showcase international drivers in NASCAR's premier series.
At the inaugural Chicago Street Race in July 2023, van Gisbergen became the first driver to win in his Cup debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963.
Van Gisbergen moved to NASCAR last year and made the Xfinity Series playoffs with two victories for Kaulig Racing. He moved up to Cup with Trackhouse this year in the No. 88 Chevrolet and became the winningest foreign-born driver in NASCAR history.
In Sunday's race at Watkins Glen International, van Gisbergen will seek to join Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon as the only drivers with four consecutive Cup wins on road or street courses.
"We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing," Trackhouse Racing founder Justin Marks said in a release. "What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He's moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing and at times dominated the competition. He's one of the greatest."
No. 1 Chevy driver Ross Chastain and van Gisbergen are under contract for 2026, but Trackhouse has yet to announce who will drive its third car, with Daniel Suarez leaving the No. 99 Chevrolet after the season.
Xfinity Series points leader Connor Zilisch, who has five wins for JR Motorsports, will make his fourth Cup start Sunday for Trackhouse Racing and has been mentioned as a prime candidate to fill Suarez's ride.

NASCAR makes decision on policing Victory Lane celebrations originally appeared on The Sporting News To clear up a bit of confusion in the aftermath of Connor Zilisch falling and breaking his collarbone during his NASCAR Xfinity Series victory lane celebration on Saturday at Watkins Glen, no the Sanctioning Body is not going to police victory lane moving forward. Zilisch said he had heard that NASCAR would prevent drivers from standing on top of the cars the way he had before slipping and falling on his window net. Read more:What next for Zilisch after his fall? NASCAR's managing director of communications, Mike Forde, said that is not happening on the latest episode of his Hauler Talkpodcast. "We haven't said that we were going to tell drivers who have won not to step out onto their window, and stand there and take photos and all that," explained Forde. "Right now, there are no best practices. We aren't legislating it. We haven't said that drivers aren't allowed to do this or anything else. However, I think we did notice the window net ... we do have NASCAR employees in Victory Lane, and just make the window net is inside of the car. 'I think that was part of the problem -- the window net was flapping on the outside. I think Connor even said that may have been a problem, and one of our safety guys actually mentioned the same thing. He noticed that as being one of the issues. So, nothing as far as a policy goes. Make sure the window and check, (because) if that's inside the car, it's one less thing you can slip on." So in other words, NASCAR just wants to keep drivers safe as possible so this doesn't happen again but without micromanaging things.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The hardiness of green shoots cultivated by the Wallabies in their test series against the British and Irish Lions will be tested by the storm they're likely to face Saturday when they take on the World Cup champion Springboks in the Rugby Championship opener. The Wallabies were more competitive than expected against the Lions, coming within seconds of winning the second test and then winning the third in a 2-1 series loss. Their challenge now is consistency: to keep up that standard in the Rugby Championship. They've finished last in each of the last two years. The task is a difficult one, beginning at altitude in Johannesburg and at the Springboks' most formidable home ground, Ellis Park. The venue is 1,753 meters (5,750) feet) above sea level where the air is thinner and breathing is difficult during physical exertion. It's one of the toughest test venues in the world for visiting teams. The Wallabies haven't beaten South Africa in their last four tests, their last eight tests in South Africa and in seven tests at Ellis Park dating back to 1963. South Africa has won six of its last seven tests at the stadium against allcomers. The Australians went into last year's Rugby Championship after a test series win over Wales and but only won one match in the tournament, finishing last and nine points behind third-place Argentina. 'I definitely think we're at a better place now than we were 12 months ago,' Wallabies hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa said. 'Off the back of a really good win against the Lions, we just want to continue to build that momentum going in against South Africa, Argentina and then the All Blacks. 'First stop here at Ellis Park, so we're looking at definitely continuing that momentum.' South Africa has named a typically formidable squad for Saturday's match with 18 World Cup winners among the matchday 23, a sample of what New Zealand and Argentina will face later in the Championship. Captain Siya Kolisi will wear the No. 8 jersey for the first time in a test, combining in the back row with Pieter-Steph du Toit and Marco van Standen. But Argentina beat the All Blacks in New Zealand for the first time in last year's Championship and New Zealand will approach the coming tests cautiously. 'I think (New Zealand) is a team that's really trying to find our identity this year,' All Blacks prop Fletcher Newell said. 'I feel like we showed glimpses of it against France.
