
Thousands gather at Taaruf to foster interfaith harmony
Organised by the Department of Introduction to Islam and Cultural Exchange at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, the event took place on Friday, Ramadhan 7, 1446 AH, March 7, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).
Under the theme 'Quran for Every Soul', the event was attended by Azzan bin Qasim al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism and featured a keynote speech by Islamic preacher Abdur Raheem McCarthy.
Taaruf, meaning 'Know Islam,' is an initiative held annually during Ramadhan to provide a platform for new Muslims and those from other faiths to explore the religion's teachings, relevance in the modern world and its perspective on global issues. The gathering serves to address misconceptions and counter Islamophobia by promoting understanding and dialogue.
Taaruf 2024 aimed at fostering understanding about Islam among non-Muslims and new converts
A special session featured personal testimonies from new Muslims, where they shared their experiences of embracing Islam, the impact of fasting during Ramadhan and the transformations they have felt in their lives. The event also welcomed attendees curious about Islam's core values of love, justice and mercy, demonstrating its applicability in contemporary society.
Attendance was limited to new converts and non-Muslims eager to learn about Islam. To ensure accessibility, free transportation was arranged in collaboration with Mwasalat, facilitating travel to and from the venue from various points in the city and other governorates.
The evening concluded with a communal iftar, symbolising unity and inclusion, offering attendees an opportunity to experience the traditions and warmth of Islamic hospitality.

LuLu celebrates ‘India Utsav 2025'
Muscat: LuLu Oman launched 'India Utsav' 2025 to celebrate and promote the rich and diverse culture, heritage, traditions and flavors of India in Oman. It will offer local residents and expatriates a taste of India's dynamic cuisines and a window to its vibrant traditions. Shoppers will find an extensive range of authentic Indian grocery products, everyday household essentials, and humble yet much-loved brands from across India, from staple grains, spices, and pickles to traditional products and kitchenware, bringing the essence of Indian homes right into their baskets. To complement the experience, the festival also features authentic Indian apparel, exquisite clothing collections, and traditionally intricate jewelry, adding a fashionable touch to a wholesome Indian shopping journey.' Samharam Resort boosts tourism and local economy during Khareef 2025
Muscat: Tourism and entertainment projects are proving to be a key driver of the Dhofar Khareef Season, providing integrated destinations that meet visitor needs, boost economic and commercial activity, and create employment opportunities for Omani nationals. These projects are especially important during the Khareef season, as they offer a mix of cultural, entertainment, and commercial experiences. They also play a significant role in encouraging entrepreneurship and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which in turn positively impacts the local economy and the sustainability of tourism. Samharam Tourist Resort, a popular destination for the Khareef season, provides integrated facilities for shopping, dining, and cultural and entertainment activities. According to Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Hadhri, the site supervisor, the resort hosts a consumer exhibition with 150 to 160 shops from various Arab and foreign countries. The exhibition also features a handicrafts section with approximately 28 shops for SMEs and low-income individuals, supervised by the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development. The resort's outdoor area includes restaurants, cafes, and games for both children and adults. The "Revel" section, managed by Sar Events Management Company, is particularly popular. Its owner, Muslim bin Abdulsalam Al Rawas, stated that this is the third consecutive year for the event at the resort. The "Revel" event includes a wide range of restaurants, a family and youth entertainment area, and a theater with Omani and Gulf performances. It also employs over 45 young Omani job seekers and freelancers this year. Visitors have praised the resort's diverse offerings. Sufyan bin Ghassan Al Rashdi from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate noted that the variety of activities and modern facilities create a "joyful atmosphere." Ahmed bin Ali Al Saadi from Musandam Governorate expressed his admiration for the development in tourism activities, while Mohammed Al Saiari from Saudi Arabia highlighted the consumer exhibition and its variety of local products.
