At 6-foot-4, Dobeš is no shrimp. But even on skates, he had to crane his neck considerably to see Rioux's face.

'He plays Basketball for now, but put Rioux in goal and see what happens,' commented another.

Mammoth defenceman Lamoureux and Sharks blue liner Desharnais are two of the tallest guys in the league — at 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-7, respectively — and even they looked puny compared to the 19-year-old Terrebonne native.

'It's rare that we're small,' said Lamoureux in the caption.
Rioux has taken the basketball world by storm since his early teens, with footage of him towering over players his own age. This past season, he was a redshirt freshman for the Florida Gators, meaning he didn't play in any games for the reigning NCAA men's championship school.

'It is something very special. For as long as I know what soccer means, Thomas Muller is on the top. And I see him here after 22 years coming to Canada in Vancouver, I'm just excited,' he said. 'He helped us win the World Cup in 2014,' young Germany fan Sebastian Konkobor said. 'I had a feeling when they said he was coming to MLS I had a slight feeling (he would come to Vancouver), but I wasn't sure. I saw it, and I was like refreshing the Instagram every day.' 2:54 German soccer legend Thomas Müller brings star power to Vancouver Whitecaps The excitement began growing earlier Wednesday when Müller posted to Instagram from his plane. Story continues below advertisement 'I'm on my flight to Vancouver. I'm looking for the GOAT. Can you help me? I cannot find him anywhere,' Müller wrote. 'It's my first flight without Manuel Neuer since maybe 15 years, I don't know. I'm very excited to come to Vancouver to play for the Whitecaps. Fingers crossed for my first games. See you there.' The Whitecaps will be Müller's first ever assignment with a team other than Bayern Munich. The star signed with the club's academy at just 10 years old, and went on to become one of its biggest names, racking up 1e Bundesliga titles and two champions leagues along the way, in addition to a World Cup win with Germany in 2014. Vancouver said last week Müller will join the Whitecaps for the remainder of the season in an open roster spot, with a Designated Player option for 2026. He is expected to make his debut at BC Place on Sunday when the Whitecaps host the Houston Dynamo.

‘I could write a book on this': Pierre Turgeon talks about the infamous Patrick Roy trade on podcast

Montreal Canadiens In a new episode of the Spittin' Chiclets hockey podcast, former Montreal Canadiens captain Pierre Turgeon re-opened an old wound for many Habs fans by discussing the lead up to the infamous 11-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in 1995 that ended Patrick Roy's tenure in Montreal. 'I knew right away,' the Hockey Hall of Famer said of the inevitability of a trade when Mario Tremblay came on as coach. 'It's a matter of time and when. Don't know (when), but it's going to happen.' Turgeon had a unique vantage point, since he and Roy were neighbours and drove to the rink together every day. 'I told him, 'I think I could write a book on this,'' Turgeon said. 'It's happening. It's a matter of time and when, don't know. But, it's going to happen.' Pierre Turgeon knew Patrick Roy and the Canadiens were a ticking time bomb because he would drive to the rink with Roy and hear about it every day. — Spittin' Chiclets (@spittinchiclets) August 12, 2025 Turgeon reminded the hosts that Tremblay was hired after Jacques Demers was let go following an 0-6 start. He affirmed Keith Yandle's question about whether the new coach was trying to assert dominance over the team's biggest star. 'I remember sitting in the locker room, the first meeting we had. Mario comes in and there's an argument right off the bat. Mario wanted to say, 'I'm the boss,' and that didn't work,' Turgeon said. 'Because Patrick had a lot of power. If (Wayne Gretzky) comes to the coach and says we should have a day off today, you get it. Patrick was one of those guys.' Turgeon also recalled that Roy and Tremblay might've been roommates when they both played on the team together. Tremblay had been on radio at the time he was hired to coach the Habs, and was often critical of Roy on the air. After the loss to Detroit, Roy was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche along with Mike Keane for Martin Rucinsky, Andrei Kovalenko and Jocelyn Thibault in one of the most lopsided trades in Habs history, with the Montreal club on the losing end. Roy would go on to win two Stanley Cups in Denver. The trade of Keane also allowed Turgeon to take over as captain, a role he held until getting dealt to the St. Louis Blues less than a year later. On the podcast, Turgeon also talked about the rivalry between English and French players in minor league hockey, getting traded for Pat LaFontaine and learning one-timers from Brett Hull. Roy and Tremblay eventually quashed their longstanding beef.
