Premier League fixtures live updates as schedules for all 20 clubs released

Daily Mirror8 hours ago

The 2025/26 Premier League season is edging ever closer and the latest landmark in the build up to the return of the top-flight comes on Wednesday. At 9am, league chiefs will reveal the fixture list for all 20 sides set to compete next season.
Liverpool head into the campaign as defending champions, having stormed to the title in their first year under Arne Slot. The Reds are not resting on their laurels and have launched a major recruitment drive, with Jeremie Frimpong already having arrived, while Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are set to follow.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal finished as runners-up for a third successive year last term. They are looking to sign a new striker in a bid to finally end their 21-year title drought and the Spaniard knows it's title or bust. Manchester City will be looking to get back on top, while Manchester United, after last season's debacle, will be hoping to climb the table, likewise Tottenham.
At the other end of the table, Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland are all set to be battling to earn survival in their first year back in the big time. It could be difficult for the trio, who earned promotion from the Championship.
This season's fixtures are due to be released at 9am. Stay tuned throughout the morning for all of the build-up and reaction to this year's fixture release:
As was the case last year, the new campaign will officially get up and running on the weekend of August 16/17.
Separate to last year, however, the Premier League has returned to a Saturday start after back-to-back seasons hosting the first game of the season on Friday nights.
This also remains in line with the Premier League's return to a later start date after several years of slightly earlier restarts.
Next term will begin a full 11 days after the 2022/23 campaign got underway, though that was motivated by the Qatar World Cup interrupting the schedule midway through the calendar.
Good morning and welcome to Mirror Football's live blog for Premier League fixture release day.
Today is the day when we learn what next season will bring - and exactly when.

England women to avoid 'awful' social media at European Championship

BURTON UPON TRENT, England, June 18 (Reuters) - Alessia Russo, Lauren James and Lucy Bronze are among members of the England women's football team who plan to avoid social media at next month's European Championship in Switzerland because of its toxic environment. Russo said she prefers to stay off it at major tournaments, including the 2023 Women's World Cup during which she had someone else run her Instagram account. "I think every player might have a different story about that side of the game but it's definitely one that can be really damaging," the Arsenal forward told BBC Radio at St. George's Park. "I have faced it in the past and I think most players here have. When I was younger I probably got sucked into it more. I read it more than I should have and listened to it more than I should have. The only opinions that matter are (those of) my teammates, my coaches and my family." Russo's comments came after British tennis player Katie Boulter revealed she has received death threats to herself and members of her family after matches as players in that sport are increasingly subjected to online abuse through direct messages. Chelsea forward Lauren James said the abuse never really stops. "Sometimes it's not even to do with my performance, even when someone loses at FIFA (the EA Sports video game), my card scores against them and they're sending me abuse," James said. "I guess when it's your first time, though, maybe it might touch someone, but I'm used to it. I'm going to just brush it off my shoulder." Bronze said it was not just the players who receive negative comments. "People write horrible things and obviously our families read it as well and it can be upsetting if you see something that's not very nice," the Chelsea defender said. "Social media is amazing in one way and absolutely awful in another way. I think most of us have been off at some point." England begin the defence of their European title against France on July 5.

Jose Mourinho at centre of Turkish scandal as leaked texts force resignations

Turkish football has been rocked by a leaked messages scandal in which it is alleged governing body chiefs were plotting to "make Jose Mourinho pay" after the Fenerbahce boss was "tolerated too much." TFF committee president Celal Nuri Demirturk and the entire board of directors have resigned en masse after a series of communications were leaked in relation to Mourinho's complaints about refereeing standards in February following a draw with closest rivals Galatasaray. The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was banned for four games and fined £35,000 for 'derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee" and accusing "Turkish football of chaos and disorder with insulting and offensive statements towards both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees.' Mourinho subsequently said that he was suing Galatasaray following an accusation of racism from the Istanbul rivals after he said their bench 'jumped around like monkeys' during the scoreless draw. He had previously claimed Turkish referees were "worse than I thought" and "smell bad." But the leaked messages have prompted fury with Fenerbahce releasing a statement questioning the impartiality of the sport. A club spokesperson said: 'Our club has made an official application to the Turkish Football Federation in response to the correspondence that has been made public today and is claimed to belong to members of the Professional Football Disciplinary Board. 'We believe that this hostile mentality, which clearly violates the principle of impartiality and is based on showdowns and revenge, has no place in Turkish Sports.' The club's general secretary Burak Kizilhan added: "If these allegations are true, not only would the impartiality of the relevant board be compromised, but the institutional reputation and public trust in the Turkish Football Federation would be seriously damaged. "For individuals who serve on one of the most important boards with the duty to establish justice in Turkish football to be involved in such statements would render the concept of 'discipline' ineffective and constitute a clear attack on the principles of impartiality and equality." In another meeting between Fener and Galatasaray in early April, Mourinho approached opposition manager Okan Buruk at full time and grabbed his nose - leading to another three-game ban. Mourinho had also linked himself with the Rangers job and said he would be keen on taking over a Premier League struggler so he could avoid Turkish referees.
