2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Marsden SHS v Keebra Park SHS, Round 4
Unbeaten Keebra Park will ignore Marsden State High School's 1-2 record this Langer Trophy season when two of Queensland's blue-chip schoolboy rugby league teams clash in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Spearheaded by a pair of Burleigh Bears Mal Meninga Cup champions in halfback Hayden Watson and middle forward Tupou Francis, Marsden's Makos possess plenty of bite but are running out of time to prove it.
The Keebra v Marsden clash will be streamed LIVE and FREE as the match of the round on KommunityTV and News.com.au from 4.30pm.
The cutthroat Langer Trophy will see five of eight teams progress to the NRL Schoolboys Trophy playoff system and only one team, Stretton State College, is a minnow.
Re-qualifying for the 2026 Langer Trophy is an ignominious fate that could befall Marsden, Ipswich or Wavell unless those teams can find their attacking firepower, defensive resolve or both.
That is why Keebra Park coach Peter Norman is urging his players to give nothing to Watson and Francis as they attempt to kickstart Marsden's season in front of the Cameron Smith grandstand.
'I'm not reading too much into where they're sitting on the ladder currently because if you look at the strikepower in that team they still have a couple of really quality players,' Norman said.
'Hayden Watson, Tupou Francis and Taylan To'a are three Queensland Schoolboys players that are playing really well so we're not reading into their latest results.
'We're preparing ourselves for a finals match intensity.'
Middle forward Francis, the younger brother of former Marsden centre/five-eighth Tony who is now with the Titans, was the man of the hour in the Bears' Mal Meninga Cup grand final.
His last minute charge in golden point sealed state glory for Burleigh and underlined why Keebra can never lose track of the under-17 Brisbane Broncos forward prospect.
'We highlighted a couple of his clips on Monday and they showed the classy player he is,' Norman said.
'It just reiterated the fact that we can't have any plays off in defence or else he'll pull our pants down, basically. Our job will be to control the ruck speed and that will allow us to put a bit more pressure on him. If we're having a lazy moment and he can get on the back of a quick play-the-ball the alarm bells are going to be ringing for us.'
Queensland under-19 State of Origin half Watson, who is contracted to the Melbourne Storm, is a known quantity that Keebra Park will also keep front of mind.

NRL Round 17: Panthers vs Bulldogs could cement a changing of the SuperCoach orthodoxy
In the past few seasons any story that began referencing the defensive powerhouse sitting clear at the top of the NRL table would have been about the Panthers. Not so in 2025, where it is the Bulldogs in first place for competition points and also for 'points against.' The stingiest defence in the league has been particularly adroit at limiting the impact of halves in 2025 and this makes Nathan Cleary - who, after getting through the captain's run, is expected to push through his groin injury and play, though not kick goals - a questionable 'play' this week for SuperCoaches. Conversely, the man who can be deployed without fear is Jacob Kiraz. This confidence remains despite a significant improvement in Penrith's defensive resolve. After starting the season is horrible defensive touch - the Panthers conceded an average of 28 points per game over their opening six matches - Penrith have conceded just 17.5 points per match over their last six. However, Kiraz does not need tries to deliver for SuperCoaches. The Bulldog's winger leads the league in offloads per game (averaging 3.5 per game) and averages better than five tackle busts per game too. Kiraz has failed to cross the stripe in his past three games, and yet he has averaged better than 80PPG over that span. The second-most popular buy of the round, Kiraz is a sneaky VC option as he averages 115PPG in those games where he has scored a try this year. Having fought their way back into the top-eight after a terrible start to the season the Panthers will be desperate to win this match, but the stats suggest they'll fall short here on their 'home' turf at CommBank Stadium.

AFL 2025: Collingwood coach Craig McRae on Nick Daicos tag, Tasmanian link
Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos is fronting taggers armed with tactics from one of the game's greatest midfielders. Daicos has been on the radar of opposition coaches for nearly each of his 84 games – but none more focused than the past two weeks. The star Magpie didn't have his normal impact against Melbourne's Ed Langdon but had 30 disposals and a goal against St Kilda stopper Marcus Windhager last Saturday. Collingwood coach Craig McRae played alongside regular tag breakers in his time at Brisbane, and leant on their tricks to help his young star. 'I think Simon Black was the best I'd seen in my time … but I sort of gave some things Blacky used to do to Nick,' he said. 'Everyone is trying to support him and he's a high-end talent, Nick, and this is progression. 'Chatting to Pendles, Pendles went through this early in his career. You have to go through this, (Marcus) Bontempelli is still doing it a couple of weeks ago. 'The best players have to cope with this and this is a part of Nick's journey now. 'I thought we supported him a bit better; he's a pretty hard player to tag, his running capability is huge.' McRae welcomed the Saints' tag last week, referencing how little reducing the impact of star Western Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli had on the scoreboard. He doubled down on Thursday in preparation for West Coast, pondering whether the focus on Daicos makes the Magpies a better side. 'Maybe, arguably at times we are yeah, that's the debate, isn't it?' he said. 'I said here a couple of weeks ago, it's interesting, maybe if you tag someone what it costs your team and we'll try and manipulate it as much as we can.' Daicos spoke on Wednesday about the possibility of joining Tasmania at the end of his existing contract at Collingwood. McRae joked there would be a hidden addition to Tasmania's pitch to Daicos. 'Yeah, I heard this … if Nick goes to Tassie, I am going with him,' he laughed. 'It's a double deal … not yet (taking it seriously), I love Nick, please don't leave.'
