Dalits have been truly empowered under NDA rule, says BJP
The BJP on Sunday asserted that Dalits were truly empowered under the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and accused the Congress party of using the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar only for political gains, while ignoring his vision and disrespecting his ideals.
Addressing the media after the State Executive meeting of the BJP SC Morcha at the party office here, MP and SC Morcha national general secretary Bhola Singh said its activists across the country had been actively taking the NDA Government's welfare initiatives to the grassroots.
Despite chanting 'Garibi Hatao', the Congress party failed to eradicate poverty, or uplift the poor, Mr. Singh alleged. 'From Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi, no Congress leader truly worked for the poor,' he said.
Lauding Mr. Modi's leadership for launching numerous welfare schemes and significantly expanding healthcare infrastructure, he said, 'In the last 11 years, the number of medical colleges has grown substantially, benefitting the underprivileged.'
The 'AmritKaal' that Mr. Modi had ushered in saw women empowerment and SC representation in governance, he claimed. 'It is under Mr. Modi's rule that Dalits have been given power. They have been made Governors, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Union Cabinet Ministers,' Mr. Singh said.
He also recalled Mr. Modi's tribute to Dr. Ambedkar through development of the 'Panch Teerth' — the five sites marking the birth, education, and contributions of the late leader. Referring to Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Singh said the State was benefitting from the 'double-engine sarkar'.
Dalit Sammelans
State BJP president and Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari said the party planned to organise 'Dalit Sammelans' across Dalit colonies to create awareness about the party's welfare initiatives and counter misinformation.
'The BJP is the only party that has truly honored Dr. Ambedkar,' she said, recalling Mr. Modi's visit to Dr. Ambedkar's London residence and the government's development of Panch Teerth. Condemning the Congress party for using Dr. Ambedkar's name for political gains, she questioned, 'Can the Congress explain what it has truly done for Ambedkar?'
'Malicious propaganda'
Mr. Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 envisaged inclusive development, benefiting farmers, women, and youth, she said. Rejecting the claims of opposition parties that the BJP was anti-Dalit, she pointed to the expansion of welfare programmes, representation in top offices, and SC-focused policies. 'Despite malicious propaganda, people trust Mr. Modi's leadership,' she asserted.
Defending the government's constitutional amendments as pro-people, she denounced the Congress for historically disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar and his ideals. 'Only the BJP has respected and implemented Dr. Ambedkar's vision,' she claimed.
Earlier, the executive meeting decided to pay tributes to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on June 23 (observed by the party as Balidan Diwas) and undertake a special plantation drive to mark the imposition of Emergency, encouraging citizens to plant a sapling in their mother's name.
Ms. Purandeswari also expressed delight that Andhra Pradesh secured two Guinness records on International Day of Yoga, and described it as a proud moment for the State.
The meeting was chaired by SC Morcha State president Gudise Devanand. Ms. Purandeswari, SC Morcha national secretaries S. Kumar and P.S. Ashok, BJP State general secretaries B. Sivannarayana and P. Nagabhushanam, and former MLA D. Sambayya were among others who participated.

Stage is set for counting of votes in Ludhiana West bypoll on Monday.
Ludhiana: Security has been tightened, the strong room sealed, and the counting staff finalised as Ludhiana West braces for a high-stakes byelection result on Monday that could have far-reaching implications for Punjab's political landscape. The bypoll was triggered by the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in Jan. The constituency will see a fierce contest among 14 candidates, including AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, Congress veteran Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Bharatiya Janata Party's Jeewan Gupta, and Shiromani Akali Dal's Parupkar Singh Ghuman. Voting on June 19 recorded a turnout of just 51.33%. Counting is scheduled to begin at 8 am at Khalsa College for Women in Ghumar Mandi and is expected to conclude by early afternoon, election officials have said. Results are likely between noon and 1 pm. Security & Counting Setup Returning officer R P Singh confirmed that 14 counting tables, along with one for postal and electronically transmitted postal ballots, have been arranged. Each table will have a dedicated team comprising a supervisor, assistant, micro-observer, and helper. To ensure transparency and security, a three-tier system has been enforced at the counting centre: local police in the outer layer, state armed police in the middle, and paramilitary forces inside. EVMs (electronic voting machines) are stored under 24-hour CCTV surveillance. Entry to the counting hall will be restricted to authorised candidates and their designated agents. General observer Rajeev Kumar and district election officer Himanshu Jain conducted final inspections on Sunday and confirmed the arrangements. The duo also oversaw the second randomisation of 72 counting staff — comprising 24 supervisors, 24 assistants, and 24 micro-observers — to prevent procedural bias. A final round of randomisation will occur on Monday morning before counting begins. Dry day for 3 km To maintain public order during counting, district magistrate Himanshu Jain has declared June 23 a dry day under the Punjab Excise Act and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. All liquor outlets, hotels, clubs, and bars in Ludhiana West and within a 3-km radius are barred from storing or selling alcohol for the day. Jain has directed strict compliance from all relevant authorities. He also reaffirmed that all electronic voting and VVPAT machines are under constant watch and guarded by paramilitary personnel. Battle history Ludhiana West has witnessed dramatic electoral swings over the years, with Congress holding the seat for much of the past two decades until losing it to AAP in 2022. With the political stakes sky-high and security tight, Ludhiana West's by-election is poised to offer not just a new MLA, but a glimpse into the evolving mood of Punjab's electorate. Akhilesh: Storing poll data must, will oppose EC move
Lucknow: Stressing that it is important to store election data, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the decision of the Election Commission to destroy the video footage of the election process after 45 days could have been taken "under pressure from the BJP". "We will oppose the EC's decision. If the question is where to store the data, there are CCTV cameras installed in most houses and shops in the country. Data is stored even in homes and shops," Akhilesh said. "This govt claims that the biggest data centres in the country are being built in Uttar Pradesh . The state govt is announcing special packages for data centre owners. When such big data centres are being built, how can there be no space to store election data," he asked. "It is important that the election data is stored and remains safe. It appears that the Election Commission is taking such a decision under pressure from the BJP," Yadav said. In an apparent reference to Kundarki bypolls, he said that the CCTV footage showed policemen in civic dress coming out after voting. "They say privacy is being violated. This is not about privacy. This is a mafia act by the police to loot votes. It should be exposed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Este verano disfruta de 50GB gratis! Whatever is captured in CCTV cameras of Kundarki should be telecast on the TV channels to show who have cast the vote," he said, adding that even powerful countries like America were conducting election through ballots. On Indians stranded abroad, the SP chief said, "Some people from Uttar Pradesh have gone on a tour. I spoke to them. They said 2,500-3,000 people are stranded, and India is not helping. Flights are returning empty, but there is no one to bring them back. Since June 19, none from this group could return. They demand that the govt and the opposition should look into their issue." "I appeal to the govt to arrange special flights and resort to special diplomatic methods to bring back Indian nationals stranded in other countries," Yadav said.

The Keeladi question: Tamil pride, archaeology and political rivalry
The village becomes a flashpoint as Tamil parties champion ancient roots and the BJP-led Centre calls for further archaeological verification Shine Jacob New Delhi Listen to This Article In southern Tamil Nadu, along the quiet curve of the Vaigai river, lies Keeladi, which until 2013, rarely featured in conversation beyond its proximity to the temple city of Madurai. What began as a scientific excavation into ancient settlement patterns has turned into a flashpoint in a larger struggle over how Indian civilisation is remembered, narrated, and contested.
