Merge main, service roads by removing dividers during Metro work: DK Shivakumar
BENGALURU: After repeated complaints from motorists that the ongoing Metro construction works are affecting the smooth flow of traffic, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also Minister of Bengaluru Development and Town Planning, conducted a surprise inspection of Mahadevapura and Marathahalli areas on the Hebbal-Silk Board Metro route, on Monday.
He instructed the officials concerned to remove the medians separa-ting the main carriageway from service roads. Shivakumar also oversaw the plans of merger and said that they aim to cover 40-50 km along the Metro construction areas to ease traffic con-gestion.
He recalled that the decision to remove the road dividers was made at the recent Greater Bengaluru Authority meeting. 'At the meeting with legislators from the city, we decided to remove the road dividers to ease traffic due to Metro construction,' he said.
The ongoing Metro line constructions that contribute to the traffic congestion include roads along the construction sites of the Pink Line that connects Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) on Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara; Blue Line connecting Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport and Yellow Line connecting RV Road with Bommasandra.

‘Under Modi, India can defend itself against attack with indigenous weapons': Paatil shares govt's achievements in 11 years
India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not just developed but can defend itself independently against an attack with indigenously made weapons, asserted Union Jal Shakti Minister and Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil while crediting the PM-led central government for providing a 'new example of transparency'. Paatil made these remarks while addressing media persons at Gujarat BJP state headquarters, Shree Kamalam, over achievements of the Modi government in the last 11 years. Sharing about how an 'entire book can be written' on the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government in the last 11 years, Paatil also counted the execution of Operation Sindoor as one. Modi had first taken oath as Prime Minister in 2014. In its third term, the Modi government took oath on June 9, 2024. Paatil said, 'Along with achievements with which an entire book can be written, there are a number of examples of strength. India has not just developed, but we have also seen that it can defend itself independently against an attack with indigenously made weapons and sour the teeth of enemies.' Talking about Operation Sindoor, Paatil said, 'Under Operation Sindoor, nine terror camps on the other side of Line of Control (LOC) have been decimated. More than 100 terrorists have been killed. Pakistan and the entire world has seen India's strong reply that it will not spare those who do mischief with it.' 'The specialty was that this war was fought mostly with the weapons made in our country. The test of its perfection and sturdiness was witnessed by the world… many countries are feeling uneasy. Because, in the market of weapons, a new player, a new manufacturer is entering. It has come to the notice of the entire country,' Paatil added. The Union minister also said that, 'The BJP government under PM Modi has changed the political culture of India. After the arrival of PM Modi, a responsible government has been established. People have faith in him and the governance under him. People have full faith that a decision will be taken in the interest of the country.' Without taking any name, Paatil said, 'In the last 11 years, the BJP government has provided a new example of transparency. Before 2014, the government was corrupt and involved in scams and was full of negativity. After 2014, optimism has been awakened.' Paatil said that it has been a mantra of PM Modi to give more than people's expectation, to give with quality, in time and to every class and his government strives to accomplish the same. Paatil was also accompanied by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to address the media persons. CM Patel too highlighted the achievements of the Modi government in the last 11 years and added that the confidence of the citizens of the country towards the government has increased. He said, 'Peace, progress and prosperity have increased (in the last 11 years).'

Karnataka: AICC asks CM to take up fresh caste survey, complete in set timeline
The AICC leadership on Tuesday asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take up a fresh round of enumeration of castes based on the Telangana model since the data gathered is about 10 years old, while agreeing 'in principle' the state's caste census exercise and throwing the party's weight behind it. AICC general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal told media that the party has suggested to the CM to do a 're-enumeration' of castes as sections of communities have cast doubts over the counts, and the party too felt the data itself was 10-year-old. The party has left it to the state government to work out on finer details such as the stipulated period in which the exercise must be completed. The CM has convened a special Cabinet meeting on June 12 to discuss the caste census exercise. The AICC leadership has pushed the Siddaramaiah government to model the upcoming census on the lines of socio-economic, education, employment, political and caste (SEEEPC) survey the Congress regime in Telangana conducted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invest today with in Shriram's ULIP Shriram Life Insurance Undo AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi , AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and RS Surjewala discussed the subject with Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar and suggested the way forward to pursue Gandhi's idea. The government has spent Rs 160 crore on the earlier report which would now be junked. Live Events Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said the party leadership has vetted the inputs given by ministers and community leaders and religious mutt heads and told the government to ensure fairness to all communities. The government will deploy officials who will visit every household and gather data. The CM will decide on a timeline for completion. A few ministers representing the dominant Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities had conveyed in an earlier Cabinet meeting that the sub-caste wise dissection, they said, had suggested a sharp drop in the population of their communities while the reality was otherwise. They had been upset that the enumerators had shown the entire Muslim population as one combined community without a sub-caste wise slicing, a treatment denied to other dominant communities. Lingayat Ministers from North Karnataka MB Patil and Laxmi Hebbalkar have openly disagreed with the numbers of the earlier survey. Lingayats population, Patil had said, was more than 10 million in the state, far higher than what the report had indicated. In November 2023, Dy CM DK Shivakumar and his cabinet colleague N Cheluvarayaswamy signed a petition urging the CM not to accept the caste census report.

Thane train tragedy: Centre, Maharashtra working on master plan to avoid mishaps on local suburban trains, says CM Fadnavis
Taking lessons from the Thane train tragedy, the Central and State governments are working on a master plan with adequate measures to avoid mishaps on local suburban trains and ensure passenger safety, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. Reflecting on the train tragedy on Monday that claimed four lives and left many injured, Fadnavis admitted that the delay in the completion of Metro railways has proved detrimental in decongesting crowded local trains, he admitted. 'Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw held two-hour-long discuss with me post incident on Monday. We deliberated on effective measures to address the problems of overcrowding in local trains during the peak hours,' the CM told reporters in Mumbai as part of a media interaction organised to outline the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in 11 years. The accident occurred after several passengers fell off two overcrowded moving trains near Mumbra railway station in Thane. 'Amongst the measures under consideration is putting doors to avoid mishap. When we say doors in local trains, it will be designed completely with adequate ventilation,' he said. The CM admitted that the local trains are overcrowded during peak hours. According to Fadnavis, the Mumbai local trains got maximum funds during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's regimes in the last 11 years. CM Fadnavis said that the government is planning to operate air-conditioned local trains without hiking the passenger fares. 'At the same time, we will ensure the commuters are not financially burdened. The ticket fares will be affordable,' Fadnavis revealed. 'Whether it was modernisation, upgradation of tracks, laying new railway lines, improving basic amenities, elevators in railways stations, expansion work and adding new railway lines, a lot of work took place in the last 11 years for which there was no paucity of funds from the Centre. Yet, train incident on Monday was unfortunate. We have to learn lessons from it and provide measures to avoid any mishap,' he noted. The Thane train accident occurred due to a sudden jerk when one of the trains navigated a sharp curve between Diva and Mumbra stations, leading to the passengers on footboards of the trains bumping into each other and falling off, according to officials. The Metro project, which Fadnavis has fast-tracked since his first tenure in 2014-2019, was allegedly stalled during the Uddhav Thackeray government of 2019-22. Though CM Fadnavis did not name any leader or party, the mention of the Metro delay was a subtle comment on the Opposition, which is questioning the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti government for the tragic train incident.
