Conor McGregor had 'identity ripped apart' and told he's 'not a winner'
The Dubliner has once again teased that he will return to the octagon after spending over four years away from action.
McGregor was due to fight Michael Chandler last June but the fight was cancelled due to a toe injury and it seems increasingly unlikely he will ever fight again.
Brown, who has a storied career with 43 fights, reckons McGregor's identity took serious damage after back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier.
'Every fighter knows it becomes your identity," he told The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast. "When you're a fighter, it becomes who you are. We talk about it all the time with sports psychologists and other fighters. You can't let this be your identity.
"You're more than that. It becomes your identity. I don't give a f*ck what everybody tells you or what you try to believe in your own head," he continued.
'Now his identity kind of got ripped apart by Dustin Poirier. Dustin took his soul. Khabib [Nurmagomedov] probably first, but Dustin kind of put the nail in the coffin on that.
'Now he's not a winner with that identity. Now he's not even competing anymore. That's a lot to deal with for anyone. So you've got to have a little bit of sympathy on that side. It is a lot to deal with.'
McGregor turned 37 last month and has not fought competitively since 2021. When he returned to the ring four years ago, he lost both of his fights to Dustin Poirier. He was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler in front of a sell-out crowd last June, but withdrew due to a toe injury.
Away from MMA, McGregor has been in the news recently after losing his appeal against Nikita Hand.

Eve McMahon up to fifth in dinghy event at Europeans
Decisively putting clear blue ocean between her and the opening race in which she was disqualified on Monday, Dubliner Eve McMahon jumped in the overall standings in the qualification round for the ILCA 6 women's one-person dinghy event of the European Championships. The Howth sailor now lies fifth overall out of 93 entries and is the top U-23-year-old. Crucially, once the third race of the series had been sailed, the single race discard came into force allowing her to drop her weighty opening race score. She had followed that disqualification on Monday with a second place in a sign of her true potential that she then delivered upon in day two today. Sailing more conservatively to avoid further penalties, McMahon still delivered a tenth place and then went on to score another second place this afternoon. She still has another two qualification round races on Wednesday to decide Gold fleet for the final round but her goal remains to add a podium finish for this event to match her bronze medal from this year's World Championships in China. Meanwhile, McMahon's older brother Ewan slipped from third to sixth overall in the ILCA 7 men's event despite also scoring a second place for the day. He had to use his discard to drop a 31st place this afternoon as the wind started to drop. Carlow's Finn Lynch is 12th European in the men's event after two top-ten results keeps him firmly in contention while also watching McMahon as a rival for the a place at the LA Olympics with Team Ireland.

Cork's Callum Walsh Joins Canelo–Crawford Blockbuster in Vegas
Cork boxer Callum Walsh is set for a significant outing in September as part of the Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez versus Terence Crawford showdown in Las Vegas. The rising star will fight Fernando Vargas Jr (17-0, 15Kos) live on Netflix. Vargas is the son of former two-time world champion of the same name Fernando. On what will be one of the biggest cards of the year at Allegiant Stadium on September 13, the Super Welterweight scrap has been announced as a co-main event. Cobh native Walsh is backed by UFC CEO Dana White, who is promoting the Canelo-led event, along with Saudi Arabia's boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh. His previous bouts have been broadcast on UFC Fight Pass. Walsh's last outing was a fifth-round technical decision against Elias Espadas. The 24-year-old suffered a nasty gash after a clash of heads and the fight was called off halfway through. The Freddie Roach-trained southpaw now faces the toughest test of his career. 'I got the opportunity/platform that is all I ever needed,' said Vargas on social media. 'This fight, I will turn doubters into believers.' The meeting between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford sees the Mexican superstar defend his super middleweight dominance against the undefeated American. It is being billed as a 'once in a lifetime' fight. It comes during a busy month for Irish boxing. On the same day, the first-ever all-Irish world title fight between Paddy Donovan and Lewis Crocker takes place at Windsor Park, Belfast. Olympian Michael Conlan will fight professionally in Dublin for the first time on September 5 when he faces British boxer Jack Bateson at the 3Arena.

The 29-year-old scored a 90th minute equaliser at the weekend for Southampton before his teammate Jack Stephens added an injury time winner to defeat Wrexham on the opening weekend of the season. However, a four at the back formation is more likely to suit Dara O'Shea of Ipswich Town. Despite being right-footed the 26-year-old has lined out on a number of occasions at left-back for Ireland.
