Zonal Railways can allot single-brand, company-owned premium outlets at stations through e-auctions if there is a demand and justification for the same, the Railway Ministry has said.In an official communication dated August 11, 2025, the Ministry responded to a proposal of the South Central Railway for guidelines regarding the opening of premium single-brand outlets on a par with airports and said that after examining the matter, it has been decided that the stalls can be allotted within the existing policy and not on a nomination basis."The Divisions/Zonal Railways concerned shall identify premium locations and suitable product/service categories based on footfall, space availability, passenger demographics and other relevant station-specific characteristics," the Ministry said. The Ministry has clarified that the allotments of the stalls would be as per the governing e-auction policy."For awarding such contracts, a dedicated "Premium Stores" segment may be created within the e-auction module. The successful bidder can decide the brand/s for the outlet," the Ministry said.It asked the zones to ensure that such stalls should enhance the ambience of the stations and the image of Indian Railways."The Divisions concerned may formulate the Special Conditions of the contract as per the requirements," the Ministry said.Earlier, the South Central Railway (SCR) wrote to the Ministry and said that Station Redevelopment Works, both Major Upgradation and ABSS (The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme), at many of its stations are targeted for completion during the current financial year of 2025-26."In tune with the world class facilities being provided to the passengers, there is need to permit Premium Single Brand Outlets of various non-catering categories like travel accessories (Samsonite/American Tourister/VIP etc), Apparels (Arrow/Van Heusen/Peter England/Biba etc), Footwear and Sportsgear (Nike/Adidas/Reebok etc) and other items at stations on par with similar facilities available to passengers at airports," the SCR said.It added, "It is therefore requested to issue guidelines for provision of Premium Single Brand Outlets at stations under NFR (Non-Fare Revenue) at the earliest so that commercial spaces developed at the stations under Major Upgradation and ABSS are put to effective use not only for providing enhanced passenger experience but also for improving revenue to Railways.

Bairabi-Sairang passenger train likely to roll out in Sept
Silchar: In a major boost to Mizoram's connectivity, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is gearing up to flag off passenger train services on the Bairabi-Sairang route as early as next month — before the Durga puja festival. The move will mark the first time the hilly state sees passenger trains running through its mountainous terrain. An NFR spokesman earlier said the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has already given green signal for operations. "With the approval in place, we are now finalising the launch date and working towards commencing services from Sept," he said. The spokesman expressed optimism that the inaugural run could happen before the Durga Puja festivities, calling it a "significant milestone" for the northeastern state. Railway experts hailed the development as a potential game-changer for Mizoram's tourism sector, predicting a surge in visitors and a much-needed boost to the state's economy. Since Independence, Mizoram has relied solely on roadways to stay connected with the rest of the country. With rail connectivity finally on track, experts believe it will transform travel, trade and transportation for the state's residents. China urges Thailand, Cambodia reconciliation in three-way talks
China expressed support for Thailand and Cambodia in resolving their border dispute on Thursday (August 14, 2025) and offered to provide assistance based on the wishes of both nations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said. Mr. Wang said China supports the Southeast Asian countries in strengthening dialogue and eliminating misunderstandings, adding he hoped they would rebuild mutual trust and restore friendship, according to statements from his Ministry. He met his Thai and Cambodian counterparts separately during the day but also convened a three-way conversation on the sidelines of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting in China's southwestern Yunnan province, readouts of the three meetings showed. In their "friendly and candid communication", Mr. Wang said China hoped that the two countries could reopen border crossings as soon as possible, a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement said. China also promised support and assistance for landmine clearance in the border areas of Cambodia and Thailand, and the three ministers agreed to continue communication in a "flexible manner", the Chinese statement added. Thailand and Cambodia have wrangled for decades over border territory and a border conflict erupted last month after the killing of a Cambodian soldier in a skirmish late in May. It was the worst fighting in more than a decade and only eased after a ceasefire was struck in late July. In a bilateral meeting with Thailand's Maris, Mr. Wang spoke about China's readiness to accelerate a China-Thailand railway construction project, encourage more investments from Chinese enterprises in Thailand and ensure the stability of the regional production and supply chain. It is hoped that Thailand will provide more policy support and facilitation for Chinese enterprises, he told his Thai counterpart. While meeting with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Mr. Wang sounded support for Cambodia maintaining political stability, and said China is appreciative of the country's crackdown on online gambling and wire fraud. He also expressed hopes that Cambodia will continue strong measures for joint efforts in the region against cross-border criminal activities.

Mumbai: Vodafone Idea's losses grew in the June 2025 quarter (Q1 FY26) as the telecom operator reported a net loss of Rs 6,608 crore, compared to Rs 6,432 crore in the same period previous fiscal (Q1 FY25). However, the company's revenue from operations rose 5 per cent to Rs 11,023 crore, up from Rs 10,508 crore in the year-ago quarter, according to its stock exchange filing. The company's average revenue per user (ARPU) increased to Rs 177 during the quarter, compared to Rs 154 in Q1 FY25 -- marking a 15 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at Rs 4,612 crore, up 10 per cent from Rs 4,205 crore a year earlier. The EBITDA margin improved to 41.8 per cent from 40 per cent in the same period previous financial year. Vodafone Idea CEO Akshaya Moondra said the quarter marked a decisive turnaround for the company. He noted that investments made in the past three quarters to expand 4G coverage have started showing results, with subscriber losses down 90 per cent compared to Q2 and Q3 of last financial year -- the lowest decline since the merger. "This has been a decisive turnaround quarter. The investments made over the past three quarters to expand our 4G coverage have started yielding results, as reflected in the 90 per cent lower subscriber loss compared to Q2 and Q3 of last financial year, being the lowest subscriber decline since merger,' Moondra stated. The company has launched 5G services in 22 cities across 13 circles and plans to expand further in line with the rising adoption of 5G-enabled smartphones. Data usage has reached record levels, driven by the popularity of its SuperHero and Non-stop SuperHero plans. Moondra added that Vodafone Idea is continuing to invest in capital expenditure and, to meet its broader plans of Rs 500–550 billion, is in talks with lenders to secure debt funding.
