However, one man decided to take a very unique approach to popping the question, after taking his girlfriend out to their local Nando's.
Taking to TikTok, Nando's waiter Mal shared a snap of the proposal, which he recorded whilst serving the couple.
"POV: When he does the bare minimum proposal at Nando's", Mal said.
In the video, Mal can be seen carrying a plate of mayonnaise over to the couple.
Written in curly mayo writing is the misspelt phrase: "Will you mary me?"
Mal then gave the woman at the table the ring, whilst her partner can be seen smiling and not saying a word, assumedly too shy to pop the question himself.
He doesn't stand up, or even get down on one knee, with Mal revealing that his legs "curled round that chair."
The waiter said that the woman was left extremely perplexed by the unique proposal, and was unsure how to respond.
He said that she sat confused for 10 minutes, before finally saying yes to the proposal.
However, he added that they didn't even kiss after agreeing to spend the rest of their lives together, and instead just chose to hug.
Love Island stars slam Dejon over 'worst exclusive proposal in show history'
"He could have put way more thought into it", Mal critiqued, adding that the man had even turned up late to the proposal.
The video, posted to Mal's TikTok account (@micmanmal5), has quickly gone viral, racking up 1.2 million views in just 24 hours.
TikTok users raced to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many left unimpressed.
One person said: "It literally doesn't cost a thing to get down on one knee and propose.
How to ace a proposal
Thinking of proposing? Follow this checklist by Fabulous' Deputy Editor Josie Griffiths to ensure a yes… Time it right - the average Brit waits between 18 months and two years to get engaged. But you might feel ready after six months, or decide to wait five plus years to pop the question. Only you truly know when the time's right, and this isn't a decision you want to rush. Falling in love might feel amazing but of course most relationships DON'T end in marriage - and this is for good reason… Pay attention - hopefully you haven't reached the point yet of your frustrated partner leaving their laptop open with 'hints' for rings they like. Ideally you'll want the ring to be a secret, but also something they'd happily wear - and for the rest of their life, so just a TEENY bit of pressure here. You need to be paying attention to any comments your partner makes about other people's rings, what they do and don't like, and what's most important to them - size, clarity, specific details. If you're really unsure, or if your partner hates surprises, it's best to propose with a dummy and then buy the real thing together. Family matters - tradition dictates that you ask the dad's permission for his daughter's hand in marriage, but it's not so straightforward nowadays. Maybe your partner's closer to their step-dad, or wants her mum to walk her down the aisle, in which case you'd be better off chatting to them. Maybe they'd find it weird if you went to their parents first, in which case you could ditch the whole thing. Or perhaps they're closer to their friends and the best idea would be letting your partner's best mate pick the ring. These things do matter and could come back to bite you if handled in the wrong way. Plan the setting - does your partner dread being centre of attention, or are they someone who'd be gutted if you proposed at home, berating you forever for a lack of 'effort'? Plan the place for your perfect proposal - how busy it'll be, whether you'll be able to get a good pic there, and other logistics around it. A proposal at the top of a mountain might sound good in theory but your girlfriend might not actually appreciate it when there's sweat dripping down her forehead and she's not wearing the cute dress she'd imagined for the pictures. Personally, I can't think of anything worse than a public proposal where everyone's waiting to hear your answer - in a group of friends, the middle of a restaurant or with an announcement at an event. So bear all of this in mind and remember, it's meant to be about what THEY want, not you.
"You can do it in Nandos, sure, but at least get down on one knee and tell her why you want to marry her."
A second person said: "Immediately, no.
"The least he could do is stand up."
A third said: "Absolutely not."
A fourth added: "Gonna be honest here. I would pass him."

Barbers across the UK are being asked to recreate the 'Ibiza Final Boss haircut'

Barbers across the UK are being asked to recreate the 'Ibiza Final Boss haircut' Jack Kay, 26, has become an internet sensation after a video of him dancing in a vest and sunglasses with the distinctive chinstrap beard and high skin fade haircut went viral "The perfect Final Boss is a high skin fade with the top slicked to the side. But it's mainly the beard that makes it." The "Ibiza Final Boss" trend is currently taking the UK by storm, all thanks to a video of Geordie Jack Kay dancing in Ibiza that went viral on social media. Donning a gold chain, sunglasses and a distinctive hairstyle, the footage has led to a surge in demand for the unique look at barbershops across the country. ‌ Barber Ben McCabe, 21, who works at Razortrim in Erdington, Birmingham, reveals that the 26 year old's hairstyle has sparked a new trend. He told The Mirror that he's been swamped with bookings for the 'Final Boss' cut, averaging two per day. ‌ "Everyone is asking for it!" he discloses, adding that the haircut costs £28 at Razortrim. This follows reports that Jack Kay, the 'Ibiza Final Boss', could earn a six-figure sum from sponsorship deals. ‌ Another example of the Ibiza Final Boss cut being recreated by @Mcfadez on TikTok (Image: TikTok) However, Ben confesses that when he first saw the infamous post, he thought it was nothing more than a humorous meme. "When I first saw it, I thought it hilarious - we were all sending it around. It looks like he's stuck it on!". "But then, on my very first day back at work, people were asking for it and showing me the video," he adds, reports the Mirror. ‌ He continues: "Everyone has their own style; some people might find it attractive, some not. A lot have taken inspiration from it. The accessories all help - the vest, the chain, the tattoos, the man bag, it's a vibe. I wouldn't get it myself - I'm vanilla, but people love it. But it's definitely hot now." ‌ Apprentice barber Ollie Stokes, 17, was amongst those who adored the appearance and requested Ben give him the haircut in a clip that has garnered nearly a million views since being uploaded to TikTok. However, Ollie opted to style the cut somewhat more modestly. Ollie Stokes at Razortrim, Birmingham (Image: TikTok) ‌ "After I got the cut, I put it on my Snapchat, and my friends were creasing up. But I think I'd save it for when I go to Ibiza." Regarding the challenge of perfecting the Ibiza bob - arguably the most notorious since Jennifer Aniston's Rachel style in Friends - Ben reveals it's actually quite straightforward to achieve. A man known online as Jack Kay has gained online notoriety because of his impressive dance floor moves in Ibiza combined with a distinctive 'friar tuck'-like haircut (Image: TikTok) ‌ "It's pretty similar to just a normal skin fade. It's longer on top. There's a bit less of a blend. You got more of a Peaky Blinders style going on," he explains. "The perfect Final Boss is a high skin fade with the top slicked to the side. But it's mainly the beard that makes it." And it's not just any facial hair, he added: "It's that chin strap that Jack has in his video. It makes the jawline look sharp." Article continues below

Love Island star Dejon's step-sister posts scathing video about the star and slams him as a ‘narcissist'

FAMILY FEUD Love Island star Dejon's step-sister posts scathing video about the star and slams him as a 'narcissist' LOVE Island star Dejon is facing fresh backlash after a family member publicly broke her silence, branding him a 'narcissist'. Throughout his time in the villa, Dejon came under fire for his controversial behaviour and now a relative has revealed that she is releasing a tell-all book exposing the TV star. In the six minute video, Niah claims that what viewers have seen on TV is an accurate reflection of how Dejon behaves in real life, she began: " So I've decided to speak out because I've been silent for way too long and I know that I will be receiving probably alot of backlash from my family for this. "You guys are all clearly very traumatised from seeing Dejon on TV and seeing everything that he's doing and watching everything play out it seems as though no one is holding him accountable. She went on to say: 'Dejon is a narcissist, he's manipulative. I've been telling everyone this for the past 10 years now but no one believed me. And it's just crazy now that the whole of the UK can see what I've been trying to explain to people for so long. She continued: 'I didn't want to speak out on this. That's why I haven't made any videos directly explaining anything about him because I know that it can affect my family in a bad way. "And I do completely understand if they are upset with me for this post. She added: "One thing I will say is, I knew from the beginning, from the first episode I knew exactly what was going to go down. "It's just a shame because I don't want him to be seen like this, but I genuinely don't think that he sees that he's a narcissist, you know? and I actually do feel bad for Meg in a sense." Niah also revealed in a later video that four family members had messaged her asking her to take her video down. "So, yeah, that clearly isn't a coincidence," Niah said speaking on the family messages: "At first, I did consider taking it down, but then I realised why would I take something down when I strongly believe in everything that I said." Love Island's Meg reignites feud with Shakira with sly comment after bullying row - leaving fans furious "It has been hard because I feel like I've disappointed people." Things are getting even more messy after she revealed that she is bringing out a tell-all book about Dejon named 'Surviving Dejon' which is already available to buy. Speaking about the book alongside a trailer for it, she penned: 'This book answers everything. reasons why I spoke out. Why fear kept me silent for so long. How I lost everyone and everything I ever cared about. 'It reveals the truth behind the rumours I never wanted to address. I need to tell my truth in the way that I feel in control. This is not for attention, creating this book was like therapy for me. 'I would never put my reputation on the line or lose the people I loved if I didn't have a powerful reason to finally speak.' She added: 'I hope after reading, you'll understand where I was coming from, and I hope you'll still stand with me. Niah even posted a trigger warning for the book as it contains: "emotionally intense and potentially distressing content". Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dejon has hit back at claims of him being a 'narcissist', he said: "I do take full accountability for how I communicated at times in the villa. "The girls who were on the show with me say I'm not a narcissist, I'm not a gaslighter, all of these things they have seen online, it means a lot to me because they spent 24 hours a day with me. "I could have handled situations better but when it comes to being a 'narcissist' and these words, empathy is definitely something that I have, it's something I had for Meg, for Harry, and when Meg was upset, I was there for her, and when Harry was upset it would break my heart. "Me and Harry had a thing, we called it fitness and feelings where we would go to the gym and I would say "don't worry H, we can be free here, our tears, people will think they're sweat."' 5 Niah has said that she feels bad for Meg Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 5 Niah posted a trigger warning for the book as it contains: "emotionally intense and potentially distressing content" Credit: ITV

Netflix users can't believe 'raunchy' new show is allowed on the streaming platform

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Netflix subscribers have been binge-watching a new series that's so "raunchy" users can't believe it's available on the streaming platform. Film enthusiast Lexy Puhlick, who goes by on social media, has encouraged viewers to watch it after confessing to viewing five episodes in one sitting. In her TikTok video, she said: "Everyone needs to stop what they're doing and watch the new show on Netflix called The Waterfront. I was able to bed rot all day today and I started the series in the morning and now I'm on episode five. To be honest, I don't want the show to be over. "There's only eight episodes so I'm going to force myself to stop watching it now so I don't sit and binge watch it for the entire day." The series, which carries a 15 rating, follows a "prominent North Carolina fishing family wades into treacherous waters to keep their crumbling business empire afloat.", reports the Mirror. Developed by Kevin Williamson, it features Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist and Jake Weary - and boasts a 7 star rating from 142 reviews on IMDb. She added: "The show is so good - the actors, the actresses, the storyline. Honestly, the love scenes, they're hot. Actually, I'm a little bit shocked that Netflix allowed the type of scenes that they did." Responding to her post, one user said: "My husband and I just started it! We are addicted too." Another user added: "Agreed! Reminds me of Animal Kingdom and Ozarks." A third viewer commented: "I enjoyed it too! The only thing: I found the acting in the first episodes really bad, especially the son and this wife. But I kept on watching and started to enjoy. Loved the voices of the mom and dad and the soundtrack." One IMDb critic remarked: "A solid series that's both entertaining and full of telenovela drama. "There are a few cheesy main actors and a ridiculous scene every now and then, but a good show nonetheless. That 70's show actor is one of the bad guys, named Grady. "And while he's annoying in everything he does, his character actually fits in this particular show. "Does that make him a good actor all of a sudden? No, it just means his annoying character that he plays in everything he does, just fits this series. "Another main character, Cane, doesn't do too well here even though he's done a better job in other shows, like Animal Kingdom." Someone else noted: "Decent storyline. Some of the dialog is predictable and has me skipping ahead, though. The episode endings have been pretty good transitions between each. "I find a cadence of watching the last part of the episode, then the first part of the next episode, and kind of skipping through the middle. But that's just me. I'm still watching it though - it is enjoyable."
