Newsom donor's cannabis farm under federal investigation for 'child labor violations'
Co-founder, president, and board director Graham Farrar, who self-identifies on social media as residing in Santa Barbara, California, has made numerous political donations to the Santa Barbara County Democratic Central Committee's federal political action committee and Rep. Salud Carbajal, D-Calif., according to Federal Election Commission records.
According to California public campaign finance records, he also donated $10,000 to California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2018, and his most recent public political donation was to California Democratic Assemblymember Gregg Hart in July 2023.
Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott tweeted that the farm is "now under investigation for child labor violations" and the Department of Homeland Security told Fox News on Friday that nine unaccompanied children in the U.S. illegally were rescued.
"So glad our law enforcement could rescue another child," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated.
Glass House Brands said in a statement that they complied with the federal warrants issued.
"Yesterday, Glass House Brands received immigration and naturalization warrants. As per the law, we verified that the warrants were valid and we complied. Workers were detained and we are assisting to provide them legal representation," the company tweeted.
"Glass House has never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors. We do not expect this to affect operations moving forward. We will provide additional details when applicable."
"Know there are lots of questions, we have a lot of them too, as we get more information we will update. Our team has been continually on site and we are focused on taking care of our people and our plants," Farrar posted to X.
Farrar's X feed also shows him retweeting Republicans, such as former Rep. Matt Gaetz, in support of cannabis policy reforms.
Protesters clashed with federal authorities in Camarillo on Thursday during an immigration operation. Federal authorities had a warrant for illegal employees, Fox News has learned. Another raid also occurred at another Glass House Farm in Carpinteria.
In addition, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said the FBI has offered a $50,000 award for information leading to the conviction of an unknown suspect who appeared to fire a pistol at federal law enforcement officers near Camarillo.
People were seen confronting the agents, who used tear gas and smoke bombs. Federal personnel used gas to push back protesters who arrived on the scene after getting word of a raid.
Military helicopters were also seen flying low over the fields, a maneuver generally used to flush out people hiding.
"It is becoming increasingly apparent that the actions taken by ICE are bold and aggressive, demonstrating insensitivity towards the direct impact on our community," Luis Mc Arthur, the mayor of nearby Oxnard, said in a social media post. "These actions are causing unnecessary distress and harm. I remain committed to working alongside our Attorney General and the Governor's office to explore potential legal avenues to address these activities."
When the governor was asked his thoughts on the footage of somebody firing a gun at federal authorities by right-wing social media account Libs of TikTok, Newsom replied "Of course I condemn any assault on law enforcement, you sh* poster. Now do Jan 6."
"California prosecutes child exploiters and traffickers. Trump tear-gasses children, rips them from their parents, and deports farmworkers. Priorities," Newsom tweeted in response to Scott's post about the child labor allegations against the farm.

Hundreds of anti-illegal migration protesters and pro-immigration counter-protesters have demonstrated outside a hotel being used to house migrants. Sunday saw the latest in a series of demonstrations outside The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, after an asylum seeker was charged with allegedly attempting to kiss a 14-year-old girl. Protesters waved union flags, while Stand Up To Racism counter-protesters marched to the hotel with signs reading: 'Stop scapegoating refugees and migrants'. Weyman Bennett, co-convener of Stand Up To Racism, told the PA news agency that volunteer security personnel accompanied them. He added: 'We're happy to demonstrate but we're not happy to be attacked by thugs, racists and hooligans.' One man was seen being taken away from the station area by two officers, though it was not clear if he was part of any group. Members of Stand Up To Racism were seen trying to stop people from filming the protesters, as locals watched the march from their driveways. One local man was seen chanting in support of Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, as the march went past. He began shouting 'there's only one Tommy Robinson' when a protester approached him. One Stand Up To Racism protester chanted 'fascist scum' at him before police stepped in to ensure they would not come together. Essex Police said it had established protest restrictions due to repeated serious disruption, violence, and harm to the community during previous demonstrations. The force said that there was a ban on anyone wearing face coverings and that there were designated sites opposite the hotel for protesters. A dispersal order was in effect from 12pm on Sunday until 8am on Monday, covering Epping town centre and nearby transport hubs. Both sets of protesters were kept separated by fences. Those protesting outside The Bell Hotel in Epping chose to ignore counter-demonstrators and began singing. They sang Sweet Caroline and Come On Eileen while demonstrators from Stand Up To Racism chanted 'Nazi scum off our streets'. Essex Police said that residents have reported feeling 'trapped', fearful of leaving their homes and anxious about protest activity previously. Hotel residents and staff have been advised to remain indoors after 5pm as some have experienced verbal and physical harassment, including a resident chased and injured while returning to the hotel, the force added. Essex Police said there was an 'escalation of violence' during protests on July 13, 17, 20 and 24, involving hundreds of people. The force added that officers were assaulted, missiles were thrown, vehicles were vandalised and the hotel sustained broken windows and graffiti. The Epping protest was sparked by the charging of asylum seeker Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, with sexual assault after he allegedly attempted to kiss a 14-year-old girl. He denied the charge at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court and will stand trial in August.

A Sacramento mother and her 8-month-old daughter have been missing for over 10 days
Authorities in central California are searching for a mother and her 8-month-old daughter, who haven't been seen in almost two weeks since departing Fresno to return to their home near Sacramento. Whisper Owen, 36, and her infant daughter Sandra McCarty were last seen on July 15, according to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. 'The not knowing, it's brought me to a point where I'm — it's a cross between anger and numb,' Owen's mother, Vicki Torres, told CNN affiliate KCRA. 'I'm terrified. I'm just terrified.' The pair left Fresno, where KCRA reports they were visiting family, around 5 p.m. on the 15th, according to the sheriff's office. A traffic camera last captured their vehicle, a silver 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, shortly after 8 p.m. in Atwater, around 66 miles north of Fresno, says the sheriff's office. Since then, neither has been seen – and no information has been uncovered to explain their disappearance, according to the sheriff's office. 'They were supposed to be heading home to Elk Grove (Sacramento County) where family members were expecting them,' said the sheriff's office in a post on Facebook. Elk Grove is around 158 miles north of Fresno. On July 19, four days after departing Fresno, Owen's partner contacted her family to ask if she was there, according to CNN affiliate KFSN.
