MACC To Review LKAN 2/2025 To Identify Governance Weaknesses And Potential Misconduct
In a statement today, the MACC said the review would include follow-up action on any issues suspected of involving criminal offences under the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694), and would not be limited to governance lapses alone.
'The MACC takes note of the LKAN recently tabled in Parliament, particularly issues involving governance weaknesses and potential misconduct in agencies and GLCs. The MACC fully supports the Auditor-General's disclosures,' the statement read.
The commission will work closely with the National Audit Department to obtain relevant information and supporting documents to facilitate swift investigations and follow-up action.
The MACC reaffirmed its commitment to tackling abuse of power, misappropriation, and corruption firmly and transparently, to uphold the highest standards of governance and restore public confidence in the integrity of public institutions.
The LKAN 2/2025, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, revealed serious irregularities identified in three audits, involving over RM460 million.
Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi listed one of them as involving FELCRA Bhd, showing governance weaknesses in the lease procurement of four oil palm estates worth RM241.76 million between 2022 and 2024.
She added that Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was found to have serious procurement irregularities involving three tenders worth RM58.45 million.
The other irregularities involved uncollected late penalty charges amounting to RM162.75 million and yet to be imposed late penalty charges amounting to RM1.42 million for the GEMPITA supply contract.

Fadhlina assures boarding schools remain safe amid bullying concerns
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has assured parents that all fully residential schools in Malaysia remain safe. She emphasised the Ministry of Education's commitment to strengthening safety measures for a secure learning environment. 'I want to assure parents that these schools remain safe and we are continuously strengthening safety measures and making improvements in all aspects,' she said. Fadhlina addressed concerns following Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's claim that Sabah parents hesitate to enrol children due to bullying. She spoke after handing mock cheques to 12 schools for autistic children at Sekolah Sinar Harapan. Fadhlina noted that 72 fully residential schools nationwide remain popular among parents. She stressed that addressing bullying requires collective effort, not just the ministry's responsibility. 'At the ministry level, we have taken various measures to tackle bullying, including strengthening school SOPs and ensuring teacher presence during school hours,' she added. Firm action, including suspension, will be taken against students guilty of bullying. Offenders will undergo the 'Bangkit Bermaruah' intervention programme, a community service initiative under district education offices. The ministry is also enhancing school counsellors' roles through training to identify at-risk students early. This approach aims for more comprehensive bullying prevention and early intervention. - Bernama

PM Anwar condemns hooliganism in sports, stresses unity
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has firmly stated that hooliganism and violence have no place in sports, especially football. He stressed that sports should unite Malaysians rather than divide them through unruly behaviour. 'Everyone supports their team or their state or their province, but that does not allow them to create chaos and tolerate hooliganism. So we'll make a difference. Don't import that culture of hooliganism in sports as you read and see and watch on television from the experience of other countries,' he said during the groundbreaking ceremony of Olympic House. Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was also present at the event. Anwar acknowledged that passion in sports is natural but should not justify actions against sportsmanship. 'People cry when they win and they cry when they lose. You know, which means you cannot deny the passion. But it does not warrant them to take actions which run contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship,' he added. He called for greater tolerance, stating that intolerance contradicts the unifying nature of sports. Anwar highlighted how sportsmanship uniquely bridges racial divides in Malaysia, unlike politics. 'There's no language in politics for sportsmanship. Politics is where you kill one another — I mean, not literally, hopefully. But only in sports, not in culture, not in the arts, not in economic rivalry,' he said. He emphasised that sportsmanship means striving to win while accepting defeat gracefully. Reflecting on Malaysia's history, Anwar recalled how sports like football and badminton united people during tense times. 'It doesn't matter whether he's Malay, Chinese, Dayak or Indian — we consider them all Malaysian. And that's what I feel we need to promote. But of course, we also need to excel,' he said. Jokingly, he added that Malaysia expects at least one Olympic gold medal under Minister Hannah Yeoh and OCM President Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria. Sharing advice for his grandchildren, Anwar stressed the importance of accepting losses with dignity. 'I said, I told them that's not the spirit. The spirit of course, is to win, but the sportsmanship, the term sportsmanship is such a value-laden term. You do try your best, you try and excel, but you accept it (loss) in a sportsman's fashion,' he concluded. - Bernama

Stronger-than-expected June IPI Signals Solid 2Q GDP Growth -- RHB IB
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- June 2025's stronger-than-expected Industrial Production Index (IPI) points to solid second-quarter gross domestic product (2Q GDP) growth of 4.5 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y), with potential upside towards 4.6 per cent, according to RHB Investment Bank Bhd (RHB IB). Data released by the Statistics Department Malaysia (DOSM) today revealed that Malaysia's IPI rose by three per cent y-o-y in June 2025 from 0.3 per cent y-o-y in May 2025, mainly driven by growth momentum in the manufacturing and electricity sectors. 'This was higher than our in-house projection of -0.5 per cent y-o-y, and Bloomberg consensus estimate of 0.5 per cent y-o-y,' RHB IB said in a statement today.
