2.69 MW solar power plant commissioned in Chamarajanagar
A 2.69 MW solar power plant has been commissioned at Honnahalli village in Chamarajanagar taluk under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Component-C scheme. The project aims to provide a sustainable and reliable daytime power supply for agricultural pump sets, benefiting around 300 local farmers.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the plant virtually on Wednesday during a State-wide event held at Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur district, besides launching multiple solar projects.
Energy Minister K.J. George, Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar, and officials attended the virtual event. A live screening of the inauguration was organised in Honnahalli, where Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Chairman Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda and other dignitaries participated.
Highlighting the CESC's ongoing efforts in expanding solar infrastructure, Mr. Gowda said, 'We have already set up solar plants with capacities of up to three MW and are targeting a total generation of 950 MW. Land for 500 MW of this capacity has already been secured this year.'
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised the importance of providing three-phase power to farmers during the day. 'This project will eliminate the need for farmers to operate pump sets at night, enhancing safety and convenience,' he said.
During an interaction with the Chief Minister, Mahesh, farmer from Honnahalli, expressed gratitude for the initiative, explaining the challenges posed by wild animals during night-time irrigation. 'With solar power available during the day, it is now much safer and more convenient for us to irrigate our fields,' he said.

47 Tamil medium students now will be part of midday meal scheme in Idukki
As many as 47 upper primary (UP) Tamil medium students of the Udumbanchola Government High School in Idukki will now be part of the midday meal scheme. According to officials, a lower primary Tamil medium school began in the tea plantation sector of Udumbanchola in 1999. The State government upgraded this school to a high school in the 2011-12 academic year. However, the upper primary section of the school was functioning here without a government approval. Therefore, the UP students were not eligible for the midday meal scheme or other government assistance. In February 2024, the headteacher of the school submitted an application to the Food Commission, requesting to include the upper primary students in the midday meal scheme. Based on this request, the Food Commission asked the Deputy Director of Education in Idukki to provide a report, which recommended to include the students in the scheme. Order issued The Food Commission had in November 2024 directed the State government to take steps to include the students in the scheme. The Director of General Education was recently issued an order to include the students in the scheme. State Food Commission Chairperson Ginu Zacharia Oommen said that the 47 upper primary students belong to the plantation sector and are from low-income families. 'The Commission had asked the State government to consider this a special case and to include the students in the midday meal scheme,' said Dr. Oommen. The midday meal scheme will be helpful to the students as well as their parents,' he added. According to officials, only students in government approved schools are eligible for the midday meal scheme (officially known as PM-POSHAN), a Centrally-sponsored scheme.

Siddaramaiah will be replaced by Shivakumar or Kharge by Nov. or Dec., says Vishwanath
MLC A.H. Vishwanath said there will be a change of guard in the State in November or December, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be replaced by either Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar or All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Vishwanath said Mr. Siddaramaiah was on his way out, and there was no doubt about it. He responded to the statements of Mysuru district in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa who stated that not only was the CM chair stable or safe but so was the person sitting on it. The State government's decision to conduct a fresh caste census came under criticism, and Mr. Vishwanath said that over ₹180 crore had been spent on the Kantharaj and Jaiprakash Hegde report but to no avail. He questioned the government's claim that the new survey would be completed in three months, and said that teachers were not free and hence it could not be conducted. The backward class communities feel cheated, he added. Mr. Vishwanath accused Mr. Siddaramaiah of making scapegoats of others for his follies and cited the recent stampede in Bengaluru. Though many senior officials advised against the IPL victory parade, the Chief Minister ignored their advice and went ahead with the event, said Mr. Vishwanath. The MLC questioned the need for Mr. Siddaramaiah to have so many 'advisors', and said the State exchequer was being squandered.
