2.69 MW solar power plant commissioned in Chamarajanagar
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the plant virtually on Wednesday during a State-wide event held at Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur district, besides launching multiple solar projects.
Energy Minister K.J. George, Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar, and officials attended the virtual event. A live screening of the inauguration was organised in Honnahalli, where Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Chairman Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda and other dignitaries participated.
Highlighting the CESC's ongoing efforts in expanding solar infrastructure, Mr. Gowda said, 'We have already set up solar plants with capacities of up to three MW and are targeting a total generation of 950 MW. Land for 500 MW of this capacity has already been secured this year.'
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised the importance of providing three-phase power to farmers during the day. 'This project will eliminate the need for farmers to operate pump sets at night, enhancing safety and convenience,' he said.
During an interaction with the Chief Minister, Mahesh, farmer from Honnahalli, expressed gratitude for the initiative, explaining the challenges posed by wild animals during night-time irrigation. 'With solar power available during the day, it is now much safer and more convenient for us to irrigate our fields,' he said.

Guarantee schemes implemented for citizens' empowerment: CM
Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that his govt implemented the guarantee schemes aiming at the empowerment of all citizens, ensuring them equal rights and opportunities to live in dignity. Speaking after inaugurating a slew of development works initiated in the Varuna assembly segment and distributing benefits to beneficiaries of various schemes worth Rs 1,107.72 crore at Hadinaru, the CM said that his govt has implemented guarantee schemes for the empowerment of the poor irrespective of caste. He also thanked voters of the Chamundeshwari and Varuna assembly segments for electing him five and two times from the respective constituencies, shaping his political career. Siddaramaiah claimed that he walked the talk by successfully implementing the guarantee schemes announced by his govt and also fulfilled 158 promises out of 163 promises his govt made during 2013-2018. His govt has been spending Rs 55,000 crore annually for the success of guarantee schemes. The per capita income of the people of the state increased with the implementation of such schemes. SEP recommends reservation in admissions for SC/STs, OBC students in private colleges and universities
The State Education Policy (SEP) Commission, which submitted its report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, has recommended implementing reservation in admissions to private unaided colleges, private universities and government standalone institutions, to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward class (OBC) students, as per the reservation matrix in the State. 'Gross Enrolment Ratio into higher education in Karnataka is found to be low among these communities, apart from other vulnerable sections of students. To promote higher education among these underprivileged sections, we have recommended regulations for reservation for admission for SCs, STs and OBC students in private higher educational institutions and universities,' said Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, chairman, SEP Commission. He recalled that during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance-2 (UPA-2) regime, constitutional amendments were brought in and presently Article 15 (5) of the Constitution provided for reservation in admissions in private unaided institutions. 'But the provisions say that the States should form regulations for the same. This has not been implemented anywhere yet. Let it start from Karnataka itself,' Prof. Thorat said. The commission chairman also said that Karnataka had one of the highest levels of privatisation in education. 'Around 60% of the universities and colleges are private or unaided, and 72% of the students are studying in these institutions,' he said, adding that the fees at these private institutions were high, acting as a barrier to many students. 'Therefore, we have recommended that students from lower income families who get admission in private and unaided colleges, should be provided financial support,' he said. Rohith Vemula Act The SEP Commission has also recommended that the State enact an anti-discrimination law in the form of Rohith Vemula Act, as has been the demand by several Dalit and progressive groups across the country, to deal with issues of diversity and discrimination in higher educational Institutions. 'This is an important issue. We have suggested a separate law that deals with diversity and discrimination issues, with regards to caste, religion, gender or any other form of discrimination,' Prof. Throat said.

Karnataka minister urges Election Commission to treat Rahul'svote theft claims as suo motu plaint
Bengaluru: Law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil on Saturday urged the Election Commission (EC) of India to address the allegations of voter list manipulation instead of offering excuses. He asserted that Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's claims, supported by documents and scientific analysis, should be treated as a suo motu complaint. Patil emphasised that as a constitutional body, EC must act with transparency and urgency. "Lame excuses of procedural red tape, like demanding affidavits, should not be used to shirk its fundamental responsibility to safeguard democracy and the sanctity of elections," he said. Patil said, "Why did EC not file a complaint or seek an affidavit from the speaker or the member who exposed EC for lapses and malpractices?
