Kesari Chapter 2: Akshay Kumar's Film Gets Extended Theatrical Run Ahead Of OTT Release

News1826-04-2025

Kesari Chapter 2 will reportedly take longer than expected to be released on streaming platforms.
Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in key roles, hit the big screen on April 18. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the historical courtroom drama has impressed the audience and critics alike. According to early trends, the Karan Johar-backed movie is doing well at the box office, earning over Rs 45 crore and a solid Rs 29 crore opening weekend. As a result, the makers are reportedly planning to extend their theatrical run before releasing on streaming platforms.
If you're excited to watch Kesari: Chapter 2 on OTT, you may need to wait a little longer. According to Pinkvilla, the movie's digital release will take longer than expected. While Bollywood movies often make their OTT debuts about two months after their theatrical release, this courtroom drama will follow a different plan. Therefore, if you want to watch the film in the comfort of your own home, the wait time will be longer than the typical two months.
Since its theatrical release, the film has garnered significant buzz on social media. During a recent interview with Filmy Shilmy, Karan defended the idea of including the word, revealing that the team consulted historians before adding it to the film. He said, 'It was very important for us to include the 'f**k you' in the film because, for us, the whole point was to look the British in the eye and say 'f**k you' for what they had done. That was the courage we imbibed from Sankaran Nair's story, and it's the same courage we wanted to depict."
Furthermore, Akshay Kumar also spoke about his character, C Sankaran Nair, saying, 'Yes, I used that word. But what's surprising is that you noticed this, yet the phrase 'you are still a slave' wasn't seen as a major insult? I think there's no greater insult than that."
Regarding the characters, Akshay Kumar plays Indian statesman and lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, who took a bold stand against British rule after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Ananya Panday plays Dilreet Gill, who was instrumental in supporting Nair during his legal battle in the British court. R Madhavan plays Neville McKinley, the British representative opposite Kumar's character. The film has an A certification.

‘They said Vidhu Vinod Chopra bribed my with Rs 8 crore to not make OMG': Director Umesh Shukla opens up on PK comparisons

Back when Rajkumar Hirani's PK hit the theatres, there was considerable buzz around its striking resemblance to OMG: Oh My God!, the sleeper hit comedy directed by Umesh Shukla that released about a year earlier. While OMG was adapted from a theatre play written and directed by Shukla himself, PK was an original screenplay penned by Hirani and his long-time collaborator Abhijat Joshi. Now, years later, Umesh Shukla has finally addressed the comparisons and longstanding plagiarism rumours in a candid interview with Friday Talkies. Speaking about the conceptual similarity between the two films, Shukla said: 'I think they might've had a similar idea in mind. If PK had released before my film, people might have said that mine resembled PK.' He also pointed out that his play had been running on stage long before the movie adaptation, and that many from the PK team were familiar with it. 'Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and writer Abhijat Joshi had all seen my play. So, when someone works on a similar subject, there's bound to be some reflection. If you're making a love story, and someone says 'I love you' in that film, well, of course they will, it's a love story.' Over the years, speculation has swirled that Shukla was paid off by the PK team, especially Aamir Khan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, to shelve OMG, considering the thematic similarities. Shukla finally addressed those claims head-on: 'At that time, there were even rumours that Vidhu Vinod Chopra gave me Rs 8 crore to not make the film. But that was just gossip, Nothing of the sort ever happened. All of them, be it Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, Chopra, or even Aamir Khan, are too talented and dignified to do something so petty, like offering money.' Also Read | Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani reunite after 3 Idiots and PK, announce biopic on the 'father of Indian cinema' Dadasaheb Phalke PK was widely compared to OMG soon after its release, fueling conspiracy theories that Hirani had paid Shukla to stall his project. In his defence, Hirani had firmly denied such claims in a statement to a leading daily: 'Please, please call Umesh Shukla and ask him, or call Paresh. This is absurd, How can someone say something like this?' Even Aamir Khan weighed in, calling the reports baseless: 'It's all lies… fabricated. You should be very careful about what you believe.' In earlier interviews, both Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi had clarified that the original screenplay of PK, conceived in the late 2000s, was markedly different. However, they later revamped it after realising it bore similarities to Christopher Nolan's Inception, which had just released. Ironically, by the time they completed filming and began editing, OMG: Oh My God! had hit the screens, and they again noticed a few thematic overlaps. Nonetheless, they stayed the course and released their film. Despite the controversy, PK went on to become a massive box office hit and is now considered one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.

An Australian man has turned an unusual talent into a lucrative business, earning up to 20,000 pounds (Rs 23 lakh) a year by selling fart videos online, according to The Metro. Once a carpenter and part-time topless waiter at Melbourne's popular strip club Magic Men, he now specialises in creating customised flatulence content for eager clients. To prepare for each video, Nath Wyld, who goes by @nath_wyld on Instagram, follows a diet rich in chicken and green vegetables to intentionally bloat himself, ensuring the desired digestive reaction. In one instance, he earned 2,050 pounds (approximately Rs 23 lakh) from a single fart video, which featured him in a jockstrap, squatting over a camera and playfully engaging with viewers. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NATH WYLD ™️ (@nath_wyld) What began as a side hustle while balancing carpentry and weekend gigs evolved into a full-time venture as his popularity grew on Instagram. Currently, he earns about 1,540 pounds (Rs 1.70 Lakh) a month from these videos alone. His unique business model has sparked curiosity and fascination across social media platforms. "At the start, the fans were happy with what they were getting, but about a year later, I decided to make the content more X-rated to keep people coming back to my page. I remember I had 100 people sign up in the first week. That's when I knew I could make good money from this - the first month, I earned around 3,280 pounds. Soon enough, I was making enough to leave my carpentry job. Not having to work eight hours a day and commute was a huge bonus - now I have the freedom to work from home," Nath Wyld told The Metro. "I never thought this sarebbe such a huge part of my income, but here we are. People want to see it, and hey, I'm totally happy to provide it."

King Charles to honour Air India crash victims at Trooping the Colour parade

King Charles III has directed members of the Royal Family to wear black armbands during this year's Trooping the Colour parade as a tribute to the victims of the recent Air India plane crash, Buckingham Palace announced. The ceremonial event, which marks the British monarch's official birthday, will also observe a minute's silence. According to a Palace spokesperson, the King requested the moment of reflection following his inspection of troops on Saturday, 'in recognition of the lives lost, the families in mourning, and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy.' Following the devastating plane crash that claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew near Ahmedabad—with only one survivor—the King had issued a message expressing that he was 'desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad.' In the days since, flags at royal residences have been flown at half-mast as a mark of mourning. The Trooping the Colour ceremony, one of the UK's most significant annual royal events, will involve 1,350 soldiers parading along Horse Guards Parade and The Mall in London. The King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, is expected to travel in a carriage rather than on horseback, as he did last year. The black armbands will be worn by senior royals in military dress—including King Charles and the Prince of Wales—as well as coachmen and women participating in the parade. Members of the Royal Family not in uniform are unlikely to wear the armbands, according to Palace sources cited by the BBC. This year's parade will feature the regimental colours of the Coldstream Guards. As is customary, the event will conclude with a flypast by the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows, watched by the Royal Family from the Buckingham Palace balcony. While King Charles's actual birthday is in November, the tradition of celebrating the sovereign's official birthday in summer dates back to the 18th century, largely to ensure more favourable weather for public festivities. Both the King and the Princess of Wales have recently resumed public appearances after undergoing cancer treatments. (With inputs from BBC)
