Springboks welcome back Kolisi, trio picked for Test debut
Boan Venter starts at prop, while Marnus van der Merwe (hooker) and Neethling Fouche (prop) round out a revamped front row.
All three featured in the team's recent 54–7 win against the Barbarians, with Venter joining the squad in June as injury cover. Their inclusion brings the season's newly capped players to seven, alongside Vincent Tshituka, Cobus Wiese, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, and Ethan Hooker – who debuted against Italy.
Rassie Erasmus voiced confidence in the new players: 'Boan, Marnus, and Neethling have been training hard and deserve their chance.'
He added that Van der Merwe and Fouche have taste of international rugby, while Venter has impressed at club level.
'Building squad depth has been one of our pillars since 2018, and they are all undoubtedly ready to make the step‑up.'
Kolisi returns to captain the side and joins a loose trio featuring Pieter-Steph du Toit and Cobus Wiese. The Bok captain missed the last three matches while recovering from niggles.
Erasmus praised Kolisi's fitness, stating, 'we wanted to make sure that Siya is 100% fit before selecting him.'
His return also adds experience – 15 World Cup winners feature in the match-day squad.
Only five starters return from last week's 45–0 win over Italy. The back three features Edwill van der Merwe, Kurt-Lee Arendse, and Aphelele Fassi, with former scoring wing van der Merwe promoted from the bench.
Canan Moodie and Damian de Allende form the midfield partnership, while Grant Williams and Sacha Feinberg‑Mngomezulu pair up at halfback. Eben Etzebeth partners Ruan Nortje in the second row.
Erasmus selected a forward-heavy replacements bench (five forwards to three backs). The forwards include Thomas du Toit, Vincent Koch, Bongi Mbonambi, RG Snyman, and Kwagga Smith.
In the backline, Faf de Klerk begins the bench alongside Handré Pollard and Damian Willemse—offering strong tactical cover late in the game.

Another international tournament, another forgetful series of results the South Africa's men's and women's water polo sides. Playing at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, the South African women's side were drawn in Group D alongside Spain, Great Britain and France. Meanwhile, the South African men's side were drawn in Group A alongside Italy, Serbia and Romania. In their opening match, South Africa lost 27-3 (score by quarters: 8-0, 6-3, 4-0, 9-0) to Serbia. They followed that up with a 24-5 loss against Romania (score by quarters: 8-0, 3-1, 7-3, 6-1). In their final group stage match, the South African men's side were humbled 28-4 by Italy (score by quarters: 6-1, 9-0, 8-1, 5-2). South Africa finished bottom of the group, scoring just 12 goals while conceding 79. The South African men's side then entered the 13th-16th place bracket where they were outclassed 27-4 (score by quarters: 5-1, 10-1, 9-2, 3-0) by Australia. That defeat saw them contest the 15th-16th place playoff where they fell short 14-13 (score by quarters: 7-2, 3-4, 3-3, 1-4) against hosts Singapore. All-told, the South African men's side played five matches, lost all five, scored 29 goals and conceded 120 for an average loss of 24-6. Hopefully Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie has a plan up his sleeve to turn around South Africa's water polo fortunes in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. 'Release the captain': Orlando Pirates fans unhappy with Xoki's contract extension
Some Orlando Pirates supporters are unhappy about the club's decision to trigger a one-year extension in Tapelo Xoki's contract. The 30-year-old defender has served as a regular captain for the team since joining the Buccaneers in 2022 from AmaZulu. While he had two strong seasons initially, some fans believe that injuries and limited playing time impacted Xoki's performance last season. Siya Kolisi gears up for 100th Bok cap as he shows no signs of slowing down
Siya Kolisi made a triumphant return to the international stage in the Springboks' 55-10 victory over Georgia in Mbombela on Saturday — his first Test appearance since November 23 last year. Despite the lengthy absence through injury, the 34-year-old flanker delivered a typically high-octane performance earning his 93rd Test cap. He missed the Springboks' recent outings against the Barbarians and Italy with a niggling setback, but showed no signs of rust in his comeback. Kolisi is closing in on a major career milestone, with only seven more appearances needed to join Willie le Roux — who reached his 100th cap in the second Test against Italy — in the exclusive Bok centurion club. With 10 more Tests on the calendar this year, including six Rugby Championship fixtures, South Africa's inspirational skipper is on course to hit triple figures during the end-of-year tour to Europe.
