Man who died after Fort Lauderdale boat explosion operated the vessel, FWC says
A father of four died from his injuries after a boat he was driving exploded off Fort Lauderdale on Memorial Day, the man's loved ones announced in a GoFundMe fundraiser. Joshua Fifi, a 29-year-old who lived Fort Lauderdale, was identified as the man who died after the blast, according to the fundraiser page. The fundraiser, organized by Hannah Galindo, said Fifi's 'sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community in shock and grief.' The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state police agency investigating the incident, released a statement Monday night saying Fifi was the operator of the 39-foot Sea Ray cabin cruiser. He was driving the vessel north in the Intracoastal Waterway shortly after refueling around 5:45 p.m. when he tried starting the port, or left side, inboard engine and the boat exploded, according to the FWC statement. Fifi was one of the 14 people on board the vessel, which was near the large sandbar by the New River when the flash explosion occurred. Eleven people — including two young children — were hospitalized with injuries. Some were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit in Miami, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said. 'Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mr. Fifi during this difficult time,' the FWC said in its statement. Should you lock your luggage when traveling? Why it's a weighty matter
As travelers embark on their summer trips this year, experts are weighing in on whether people should take the extra precaution of protecting their luggage by locking it up. Travel expert Francesca Page of New York told Fox News Digital that bags and checked bags have always been an issue. "Over the years, travel security has tightened for good reason," said Page. "People are not only concerned that their bags will go missing, but also that the bags are not secure or even securely handled," she added. Page said there's also the risk of airport theft. A massive 45.1 million Americans were predicted to travel at least 50 miles from their homes over Memorial Day weekend — with 3.61 million Americans flying to their destination, according to AAA. In addition, a 2025 summer travel survey from Deloitte has reported that 53% of Americans plan to take leisure vacations this summer, a rise from the 48% reported in 2024. Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry expert and author of the blog "View From the Wing," told Fox News Digital he wouldn't pack anything worth locking in checked bags. "The risk of an airline mishandling your bags is far greater than the risk of theft," said Leff. He added, "Losing luggage is just as bad as having it stolen — and a TSA-approved lock won't stop another passenger from taking your bag at the carousel upon arrival." The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) estimates that approximately 90,000 to 100,000 items are left behind at checkpoints each month. "There isn't much downside to locking your bag — until, of course, you lose the key or forget the combination," said Leff.

Patriots Make Final Decision on Stefon Diggs After Viral Video Controversy
Patriots Make Final Decision on Stefon Diggs After Viral Video Controversy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots are already facing a controversy with Stefon Diggs long before the star wide receiver has taken even a single snap for the franchise. Advertisement A video of Diggs on a yacht over Memorial Day weekend in possession of an unidentified and powdery "pink substance," which some have speculated may have been/contained illegal drugs, went viral following its release. That incident sparked questions about how one of the NFL's most storied franchises, known for its no-nonsense approach to the game, might handle discipline regarding the four-time Pro Bowler who just inked a $63.5 million deal to join the team as second-year QB Drake Maye's top target in the pass game. Former Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Becker-Imagn Images Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel briefly addressed the issue in recent days, saying the franchise wouldn't litigate in public and that all decisions would be in-house and shared on a need-to-know basis. Advertisement Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, June 2, reported that New England had come to a final decision on Diggs' future with the team moving forward. "From The Insiders on [NFL Network]: The #Patriots have no plans to release Stefon Diggs," Rapoport wrote. "They have high hopes for him… and him showing up to OTAs was a good thing." Diggs is coming off of a torn ACL he suffered with the Houston Texans last season, which cost him nine regular season games as well as both of Houston's two playoff contests. Diggs has amassed nearly 10,500 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns over a 10-year NFL career. He will play the upcoming campaign at 32 years old.
