Zamalek exit Confederation Cup after losing at home to Stellenbosch - Egyptian Football
Defending champions Zamalek were stunned 1-0 at Cairo Stadium by unknown South African side Stellenbosch in the second leg of the Confederation Cup quarter-finals, exiting the competition alongside compatriots Masry, who were also eliminated earlier on Wednesday.
Stellenbosch forward Sihle Nduli netted the winner with ten minutes remaining, silencing the crowd and adding to the pain of the team's fans, who were already reeling from the reported departure of classy winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed to archrivals Ahly.
Despite their advantage from a goalless away draw last Wednesday, Zamalek failed to impress during the match, as their opponents—participating in the continental competition for the first time in the club's history—were the better side throughout the full 90 minutes.
Zamalek created only two scoring chances during the game.
The first came in the 30th minute when Seif Jaziri connected with Ahmed Fatouh's cross from the left flank, but he failed to place the ball well, allowing the goalkeeper to collect it easily.
The second chance occurred in the early minutes of the second half, but the Tunisian striker also missed from close range, sending his shot wide.
The visitors, appearing more organized and fresher on the field, punished Zamalek with a deserved goal in the 79th minute, thanks to Sihle Nduli's shot from inside the box.
In response to the shock of conceding, Zamalek attempted to intensify their attacks, but their shy efforts lacked focus.
As the final whistle blew, the players exited the field to angry chants from their frustrated fans.

Liverpool sign Dutch right-back Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen - World
Liverpool quickly secured a replacement for the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold by signing Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. Frimpong returns to England on what Liverpool called a 'long-term contract' six years after leaving Manchester City, which he joined at age 9. He spent nine years there before joining Celtic without ever playing in the Premier League. 'It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer," Frimpong said in a Liverpool statement. Frimpong said he told his agents: 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done.' The 24-year-old Frimpong has blossomed after arriving in 2021 at Leverkusen, where he has been playing as an attacking wing back under Xabi Alonso. He was one of the German team's star players in its unbeaten Bundesliga campaign in the 2023-24 season. We have agreed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen 🙌🔴 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) May 30, 2025 Frimpong is a like-for-like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, who announced on May 5 he was leaving Liverpool after a 20-year association. Liverpool received a fee on Friday to let Alexander-Arnold leave in time to play for Real Madrid at the Club World Cup. Frimpong will compete with Conor Bradley for the right back position and give Liverpool manager Arne Slot the option of switching to a 3-5-2. Frimpong's international opportunities with the Dutch have been limited because of competition for right wing back with Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. Frimpong more recently played as an out-an-out winger against Spain in the Nations League playoffs. Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong grew up in Manchester and played for City's academy. He has said he had a hard time adapting to Celtic after leaving City in 2019 as he was farther away from family, but felt more comfortable in Germany. Frimpong's departure increases the scope of the rebuild Leverkusen and its new coach Erik ten Hag face following the departure of Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid. Preview: Zamalek aim high note in league finale against Pharco FC after poor season - Egyptian Football
Cairo giants Zamalek will be aiming to salvage pride from a disappointing Egyptian Premier League campaign when they face Pharco FC in the final matchday of the playoff stage at Cairo International Stadium on Saturday. The White Knights enter the match with renewed confidence after securing their first win under interim coach Ayman El-Ramady, defeating Petrojet 3-1 last Saturday. El-Ramady, 60, was appointed interim manager on 7 May becoming the fourth manager to take over the team this season after Jose Gomes, Christian Gross and Jose Peseiro. He had a shaky start at the Cairo-based side, drawing 2-2 with Ceramica Cleopatra and suffering a slim 1-0 defeat to Pyramids FC. Zamalek are currently third in the league standings with 44 points, 14 behind champions Ahly and 12 adrift of second-placed Pyramids FC. El-Ramady faces challenges with a growing injury list that includes Ahmed Jafeli, Ahmed Fatouh, and Hamza Mathouthi, and Moroccan left-back Mahmoud Bentayg all of whom will miss the game. Fortunately, he will receive a boost as several injured players are set to return. Midfield duo Nasser Maher and Mahmoud Gehad have recovered and will be available for selection. The team's top scorer Nasser Mansi has also resumed training but may not start the game. Mansi has a personal challenge as he will be hoping to score a double to match Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour's 13 goals at the top of the league's scoring chart. This match serves as valuable preparation for Zamalek ahead of their Egypt Cup final against Pyramids FC on 5 June. Pharco FC, meanwhile, arrive following a heavy 6-0 defeat to Ahly on Wednesday, in a match that marked the Red Devils' coronation ceremony for their record-extending 45th league title. Tennis: Djokovic takes a medical timeout for a toe blister in a victory over Moutet - Omni sports
Novak Djokovic dealt with a blister on his big left toe that required a medical timeout in the third set, then was one point from being forced to a fourth, before closing out a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory over Corentin Moutet at the French Open on Thursday. 'With him, anything's possible,' Djokovic said. 'But I managed to find the right shots to stay in the match.' The result put Djokovic in the third round at Roland-Garros for the record 20th time — not even Rafael Nadal managed that. Two more wins, and Djokovic will get to the tournament's quarterfinals for the 16th consecutive year. In 2024, though, he withdrew before playing in that round after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during the fourth round and needing surgery. Djokovic has won three of his men's-record 24 Grand Slam titles in Paris. Against the left-handed Moutet, a Frenchman, Djokovic got broken in the opening game at Court Suzanne-Lenglen, and the crowd roared. But soon enough, Djokovic was in control. It wasn't until 2-all in the third set that some trouble arose. Djokovic, who went on a nighttime bicycle ride in the center of Paris on Wednesday, slid into a forehand and held up, then hopped with all of his weight on his right foot. He stepped gingerly to the sideline and requested a visit from a trainer, who treated and taped the problematic big toe. Soon, Moutet was mean-mugging toward his entourage in the stands after breaking to lead 4-2 in the third. Djokovic would break right back, but again faced a difficult spot while down 6-5 and facing a set point as the locals sang Moutet's last name. But Moutet netted a backhand passing shot, and once they got to a tiebreaker, Djokovic was simply too good. That hasn't been the case as often as usual this season, which has included a pair of three-match losing streaks for the 38-year-old from Serbia. But Djokovic ended his latest rut by winning his 100th career title at the Geneva Open before arriving at Roland-Garros. 'Before last week's tournament in Geneva, I didn't feel confident in my game. But it's normal to feel that way, because I hadn't won enough matches,' Djokovic said. 'I'm like any other player in that respect. I've had to work hard to win.'
