‘Escape From Tarkov' Players Angry After AI Art Found In New Map
Earlier this week a new map launched in Escape From Tarkov Arena called Iceberg, however fans have since discovered that it features AI generated artwork, and as you might expect, a lot of them are not happy.
Yesterday, patch 0.3.1 for Escape From Tarkov Arena was launched, and the headline new addition was a new map for the Blast Gang and CheckPoint game modes called Iceberg, which is set in a luxury hotel that is now being used for the combat arena sport. By most accounts, it's a decent map, with a lot of players seeming to have fun in the first day of action. However, fans have now discovered some AI generated artwork on the map, and quite a few are angry and disappointed about its inclusion.
The top thread on the Escape From Tarkov sub-Reddit is currently highlighting some of the AI art, and asking the developers to not use it again in either Arena or the main Tarkov game. Throughout the Iceberg map, there are posters on the walls that parody other games. Some examples include parodies of the iconic Dark Souls graphic of a character next to a bonfire, the key art of the recently released Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and artwork that appears to be referencing Steam hit Lethal Company.
Many fans on the sub-Reddit theorised these images were made with AI, and now a member of the Escape From Tarkov PR team has confirmed to me that that is the case and these images were made with AI.
As is the case with a lot of AI work, there has been somewhat of a backlash from areas of the Tarkov community, with some fans calling the use of AI lazy and many sharing their disappointment that developers Battlestate Games has chosen to use this technology instead of commissioning human artists. However, others are arguing that this is a good use of AI, with features of the map that are inconsequential to gameplay and something that will barely be noticed by most players.

Had these images not been made by AI these would have been some very cool Easter eggs for players to discover on the new map, but now they are creating somewhat of a negative storm, which is a common occurrence in the world of Tarkov. It's only been a year or so since the extremely controversial Unheard Edition of Tarkov that saw a lot of fans pledge to never come back to it.
If you want to see the AI artwork on the Iceberg map yourself, then you are in luck, as Escape From Tarkov Arena is having a free weekend right now. You can play the game for free until 6:00 PM MSK on June 2, and there is a new task chain and double XP to enjoy when you do. If you want to purchase Arena after trying it, there is also a 20% discount for the duration of the weekend. If you would rather watch, then Twitch Drops for Tarkov Arena are currently live as well, so you can get some in game rewards to watching the action.

Helldivers 2 players ask for better UI with in-game info but joke it "would break 50% of the game," director says "that's mean... and also sadly true" but "we are working on an improved system"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Fun though it is, protecting Super Earth in Helldivers 2 often isn't helped by the UI. Less than graceful and not always intuitive, it's been a bugbear within the multiplayer shooter's community since it came out back in early 2024. In discussing their hopes for an improved system, players commented that doing so would cause a lot of problems elsewhere within the game's structure. Johan Pilestedt, creative director of Helldivers 2 and CCO of Arrowhead Games Studio, responded to this jab on Reddit, offering agreement and teasing improvements in the pipeline. "Hey! That's mean... and also sadly true. Our UI system is very cumbersome to develop - but we are working on an improved system that will allow us to build in-game UI faster," Pilestedt comments. "Also, we made a decision early to focus on Discord as the primary platform for the community. (As it's what we use internally for playtests and for other games)." The official Helldivers 2 Discord server is a pillar of the playerbase, where people socialize online together and receive updates from the development team. Polls on prospective changes and such are voted on through the server, and players would like more in-game functionality for these features, to make sure as many can vote as possible. Though such a thing may sound simple enough, game development is rarely so simple. As Pilestedt states, editing the UI in any way is currently a difficult proposition. But, from the sounds of things, Arrowhead is working on how to make this easier for everyone, potentially lowering the gap between the players and Discord users in the process. Discord has been an invaluable tool for Helldivers 2's community, especially as the audience scaled up dramatically soon after release. But clearly the overall reliance is something that needs altering, and Arrowhead's working on ways to do that. Watch this space. Helldivers 2 CEO says "we know the game isn't in tip top shape right now" and Arrowhead devs are back from vacation to focus "100% on bug fixing and optimization"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is well aware of the myriad bugs and optimization issues players are dealing with, and after a two-week vacation reset, CEO Shams Jorjani has committed to focusing on that stuff. Right about two weeks ago, the official Arrowhead Twitter account shared, "the team is entering Swedish Summer Protocol: 2 weeks of lakes, fika & tactical sunbathing," assuring determined freedom fighters, "service continues, the Galactic War rages on, and Super Earth still needs you. We'll be back soon, recharged and ready to drop even harder." Well, true to its word, the folks at Arrowhead took the next couple of weeks off, and their break just happened to start a few days after a balance patch dropped. It seems that update came with some bugs of its own, as Jorjani acknowledged on the official Helldivers 2 Discord that the game needs bug squashing and optimization. To be clear, these messages were sent shortly after Arrowhead jetted off on its vacation, but it's notable that Jorjani explicitly committed to addressing the game's performance post-vacation. "Most people are back on the 4th (office closure ends)," Jorjani said. "And we'll be focusing 100% on bug fixing and optimization. Sorry for the inconvenience. We know the game isn't in tip top shape right now." Jorjani also admitted "we should have left things in a better state with the last update." Since it sounds like the majority of the Helldivers team just got back to the office today, they'll presumably be head down on bugs and optimization for a little while, but Jorjani also confirmed armor color customization is "high on the list" and that "we want to take our time with such a feature" and not rush anything "until it's in a good place." "So probably not coming soon, but coming," he said.
