A beautiful and profound intergenerational friendship has been shared with the world through a viral TikTok video.
Julissa Gomez, 28, posted a video of her taking her 86-year-old neighbor, Delmar, to see the movie Elio. What brought Gomez to tears, however, was the sight of Delmar waiting on his porch, his face full of excited anticipation. His pure joy in a simple moment has resonated with 6.5 million people who liked the clip. Gomez spoke to Newsweek about the unlikely friendship and what it's meant to her to have Delmar in her life.
Gomez and Delmar's friendship is a true testament to the power of community. Gomez said their bond began after she and her family invited him to join them at church.

"We went every Sunday, and afterwards, we'd share a meal together," Gomez said. "Those Sundays became something we all looked forward to, and over time, he truly became part of our family." Their inspiring story has even been turned into a children's book, The Friendship Next Door with Delmar, with proceeds going toward his living expenses and medical bills.
A Constant Source of Support and Love
The movie outing is just one of many activities Gomez and her family share with Delmar to ensure he never feels lonely. Their shared adventures include running errands, celebrating holidays and birthdays and simply sitting and talking for hours. Delmar also enjoys watching his favorite shows, Funny You Should Ask and Family Feud, with them.
Their friendship runs deeper than shared meals and movie nights, however.
Gomez shared that after her father passed away, Delmar became a source of strength and support when she needed it most.
"After my dad passed away, I went through a really hard time," she said. "But Delmar was a constant source of support and love. He checked in on us regularly and became the kind of friend and family that anyone would be lucky to have."
She added that she believes that her father "sent Delmar to brighten our days." The bond her dad and Delmar shared has now been passed on to Gomez's husband, who can make Delmar "laugh like no one else can." Gomez said she treasures Delmar for his "kindness, wisdom, humor, and the way he makes everyone around him feel special."
The Internet Comes Together to Help
The viral video has not only brought awareness to their friendship but has also sparked an outpouring of generosity from the online community.
This support has helped ease many of Delmar's financial burdens.
"When his car stopped working, he was devastated, it's his independence," Gomez shared. "Thanks to the generosity through our GoFundMe, he was able to get it fixed." Without the support from TikTok, she says, this would not have been possible.
The same online community also helped Delmar with another milestone: getting his first cellphone. This has provided him a new way to stay connected with Gomez and "all the people cheering him on." For her, seeing this online community come together to support her dear friend has been "incredibly moving."
The story of Gomez and Delmar is ultimately a powerful reminder that random acts of kindness can lead to the most meaningful and unexpected friendships.

Universal Signs Trivia Quiz — BuzzFeed Quizzes
Admit all gone on a date with someone super cute from class, only to find out their mom still does their laundry and the only thing they can 'cook' is Kraft Dinner. Turns out, adulting is kind of sexy. We all want to be someone who can take care of ourselves — and, ideally, find someone we don't have to literally parent. Because if you're still putting the noodles in before the water might just be a red flag. So if you're a grown-ass adult who's been doing laundry since age 10, or just trying to escape your helicopter parents, let's see how well you know these universal symbols. You know, the kind everyone should recognize…for the good of society. Let's go... Tell us how you did in the comments. Want a fun signage fact? (Words I truly never thought I'd say.) Even though signs and symbols can vary by country, region, or city, there's actually an international organization — the ISO — that helps standardize them. Because let's be real: It'd be wildly inconvenient (and unsafe!) if every country had a different symbol for 'stop' or 'flammable.' Staying alive should be a universal language — and honestly, I'm very on board with that. And for more fun quizzes and content, make sure you follow BuzzFeed Canada on TikTok and Instagram!

In a video shared to TikTok, the 46-year-old actress could be seen wearing a pink silk dress and lip-syncing the song before pulling out the lead singer of Role Model, Tucker Pillsbury, to dance alongside her. "Welcome back Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry," the video was captioned. The video comes after Hudson made a surprise appearance during Role Model's set at Aspen's Up in the Sky Festival on Aug. 9. The actress stepped in as "Sally" during the band's performance of its song "Sally, When the Wine Runs Out." Now an iconic rom-com, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days made its debut in 2003, starring Hudson as Andie Anderson and Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin Barry. In a recent interview with Variety, Hudson recounted how she met her "best friend" the day Kathryn Hahn (who played the role of Andie's friend, Michelle) auditioned for the film. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was Hahn's first movie, she told Hudson in an interview published by Variety on June 12. The Bad Moms actress, 51, also confessed to her rom-com bestie exactly how nervous she was to audition, telling Hudson, 'I was so sweaty.' 'We were looking for my besties, and you came in, like, all flustered,' Hudson said. 'I couldn't find a parking spot,' Hahn told Hudson about her reason for being late to the audition. 'I was so sweaty. I couldn't believe I was meeting you, I ran in, in a ruckus, and you were so welcoming.' Hudson told Hahn that was the moment she knew Hahn would be her best friend. 'You were like everything I think anyone would ever hope and wish for even as they know you now,' Hudson said. 'You came in and you were just like, 'Oh my God. I'm so sorry. I couldn't find the parking.' You had this bag — I don't even know what was in it; it was like you were traveling — and I immediately was like, 'I love this woman so much,' " Hudson said.
