Chaalbaaz director Pankaj Parashar recently spoke about the bond between actor Sridevi and choreographer Saroj Khan. He recalled an incident during the film's shoot when the two had a fallout, after which Saroj wrote a letter to Sridevi.
Pankaj recalled that, at first, he found Sridevi to be somewhat arrogant; however, things changed after she watched the film's first edit. He noted her deep dedication to her craft and her creative instincts, which often came through during song sequences. Recalling one such instance, he shared, 'She and Saroj Khan were bum chums. The first song that we were shooting was 'Bhoot Raja' with Rajinikanth. They wouldn't talk to me. What they were used to was the director sitting on the side, while the choreographer and heroine shot the song. And I didn't want that. I told her, 'Ma'am, I want to shoot it my way.' So Sridevi said, 'Okay, go ahead.''

Pankaj Parashar also recalled the time Saroj Khan and Sridevi had a fallout, and he had to become the mediator. He said, 'Saroj came to my house one day and said, 'I need a favour.' She gave me a letter addressed to Sridevi. It read, 'Dear Sri… we are too close to be fighting… let's move on.' I read it out to Sridevi in her van. Believe it or not, she got tears in her eyes and turned away. Then I asked her, 'Can I bring her over? Will you meet her?' And she said. 'Okay.' I brought Saroj and made sure they were friends again.'
While Sridevi died in 2018, Saroj Khan passed away in 2020.

Sridevi Was ‘Fiercely' Loyal, Says Mr India Director Shekhar Kapur: ‘When Film Got Into Trouble…'

Last Updated: Mr India director Shekhar Kapur shared a post remembering the late Sridevi, recalling the first day of his shoot with her. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur took a trip down the memory lane, and recently recalled shooting with Sridevi for the 1987 film Mr India, which also starred Anil Kapoor. He shared a picture with Sridevi from their first day of shoot in Mahabaleshwar, and it shows them dancing with their arms stretched out. He praised her dance performance, on-screen brilliance, while also pointing out qualities of the late actress that were often overlooked- her fierce loyalty and protective nature. He said that she stood by him unwaveringly when the film faced difficulties, and defended his vision. In his caption, Shekhar Kapur wrote, 'This was my first day of shoot with Sridevi ever. We were shooting a song in Mahabaleshwar. And when she started to dance the world stopped for all of us .. the only thing that moved was Sri Devi dancing ..We all just gawked. It was like another being had descended amongst us .. and I even forgot to say Cut ! Like everyone else in the set .. we were too mesmerised by Sridevi 's dancing .." He further added, 'There were other things about Sridevi that are not spoken about .. that she was fiercely loyal .. when the film got into trouble .. she would take any chance she got to protect me .. speak about how incredible I was .. she took it upon herself to fiercely protect her Director ..Yet behind her stardom .. behind her incredible talent .. lay such innocence .. such vulnerability.. And she would use not only her talent to perform .. but bring to it her vulnerability and innocence to it too. As if the only person she would express her inner feelings to was the camera .. her protector in a way." View this post on Instagram A post shared by @shekharkapur He added that she was never scared to reveal her inner self to the camera, which is what made her a true star. 'That's why she was such a star .. she was not afraid to reveal her inner self to the Camera ..#Sridevi #srideviforever #talent #actor #film #star #director @kaverikapur #vulnerability #innocence," he wrote. Mr India was released in 1987 and remains one of the most iconic movies to date. Sridevi's performance, particularly in the song 'Hawa Hawai," was widely loved by all. For many years, there were talks about making a new Mr India movie, but the project never moved forward. Instead, Shekhar Kapur is now focusing on the sequel of another classic, Masoom. The new film will star Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Bajpayee and Kaveri. First Published: August 17, 2025, 15:36 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kisna Director Subhash Ghai Opens Up On Making Of ‘Woh Kisna Hai': 'Sukhwinder Brought It Alive'

Last Updated: On Janmashtami 2025, Subhash Ghai recalls the making of Woh Kisna Hai from Kisna. The director reveals it was recorded in a single day. On the occasion of Janmashtami, filmmaker Subhash Ghai looked back on one of the most cherished musical moments of his career — the creation of Woh Kisna Hai from his 2005 directorial Kisna: The Warrior Poet. Speaking to HT City, the veteran director revealed that the song, which remains etched in the memory of music lovers even today, was recorded in just a single day. 'I have great memories behind the song of Kisna in 2003 where an Indian boy rescues an English girl during riots in 1947. During this journey, he shows how Hindu people celebrate Krishna Janmashtami as a colorful festival. It was beautifully choreographed by Saroj Khan," Ghai recalled with fondness. The filmmaker emphasized how Woh Kisna Hai was not just a musical interlude but an integral part of the film's storytelling. 'The song describes the romantic side of Lord Krishna and Sukhwinder sang it in his dancing mood in the recording room. He even became the power of the song that exists even till today," he said, praising singer Sukhwinder Singh's unmatched energy that brought the track to life. Composed by Ismail Darbar and penned by Javed Akhtar, the song blended devotional essence with cinematic grandeur, making it one of the highlights of the film. The vibrant picturisation, led by the late Saroj Khan, captured the festive fervor of Janmashtami, where colors, dance, and spirituality merged seamlessly on screen. Though Kisna, starring Vivek Oberoi, Isha Sharvani, and English actress Antonia Bernath, did not perform well at the box office, it continues to be remembered for its soulful soundtrack. Songs like Woh Kisna Hai still find resonance during Janmashtami celebrations, nearly two decades after their release. Looking back, Ghai admits that while the film may not have lived up to commercial expectations, the music gave it a timeless legacy. 'That song was more than just part of the film — it was a celebration in itself. Even today, when people hum it, it feels like Lord Krishna's presence has been evoked," he reflected. As Janmashtami 2025 is observed across the country, Woh Kisna Hai stands as a reminder of how music can transcend box office results and find a permanent home in people's hearts.
