Made in Rs 35 crore, this film became worldwide hit, earned over Rs 50 crore, hasn't released in India due to..., lead actors are...
Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji caused a huge uproar in India due to Pakistani actress Hania Aamir's casting in the film. The actress made certain comments on India's Operation Sindoor following Pahalgam attack that didn't settle well with the Indian audience, and was subjected to serious boycott calls in the country. Due to growing controversy around it, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 decided to skip its theatrical release in India.
On June 27, Sardaar Ji 3 released overseas and has since been making waves at the International box office. According to Sacnilk, the horror comedy grossed Rs 50 crore at overseas box office, taking its cumulative total to $6 million (INR 51 crores).
North America plays a pivotal role in Sardaar Ji 3's earnings, contributing Rs 18.75 crore ($2.2 million). Pakistan comes at the second spot with Rs 7 crore ($830K) and the United Kingdom on third position with Rs 6.25 crore ($725K) collection. These figures have contributed in making Sardaar ji 3, the third-highest grossing Punjabi film in overseas history, surpassing Jatt & Juliet 3 ( Rs 57.50 crore) and Carry On Jatta 3 (Rs 46 crore).
The film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark internationally in the coming days, further achieving the blockbuster status. According to Industry insiders, if the film would have been released in India it would have emerged as the biggest Punjabi movie worldwide.
Despite the ban in India, Diljit Dosanjh and Hania Aamir's collaboration turns out to be a huge success, as their film has achieved a massive milestone overseas. Helmed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 also stars renowned Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa, along with Diljit and Hania.
Months before the Pahalgam attack in April, Diljit Dosanjh had broken his silence on the controversy and Hania Aamir's casting in the film. The singer-actor said, 'Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi (When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February, and at that time, the situation was normal. After that, a lot of big things happened that are not in our control. So the producers decided that since the film obviously can't release in India now, they'll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, there was no such issue.'
