Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority
(APSDMA) has unveiled the
Heat Wave Action Plan 2025
, outlining measures to tackle extreme temperatures in the state. The plan proposes activating cooling centers such as public buildings, malls, temples, and schools, as well as temporary night shelters for those without housing or access to water and electricity.
Additionally, the plan suggests expanding access to shaded areas for outdoor workers, slum communities, and other vulnerable sections of the population. Electronic scrolling boards will be set up to display temperature and forecasts at junctions and public places, and working hours under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) will be rescheduled to avoid intense heat.
The plan also recommends ensuring the availability of shade, drinking water, and ORS packets at bus stands and auto stands. The APSDMA has prepared the Heat Action Plan 2025 with short, medium, and long-term goals and strategies to provide a framework for implementing, coordinating, and evaluating extreme heat response activities.
The plan will be implemented in three phases: pre-heatwave season (January to February), heatwave season (March to July), and post-heatwave season (August to December). Key components include monitoring climate conditions, identifying vulnerable populations, and building capacity among healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to

The APSDMA has emphasized the need for a coordinated multi-agency approach to manage heat waves, moving beyond operational-level management to a strategic level with clear roles and responsibilities. Floods in 23 districts of UP affect over two lakh people
Lucknow: Heavy rain over the past few days caused floods in 23 districts in UP as of Monday, affecting more than 2.16 lakh people. The department of irrigation and flood control reported that the Ganga was flowing above the danger mark in Badaun, Ballia, Farrukhabad, and Hapur, while the Ghaghra river was above the danger mark in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Ballia. Govt extends relief to 6.5L flood-hit people
Lucknow: In response to devastating floods affecting Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is spearheading extensive relief operations to assist the affected population, a govt spokesperson said. With relentless rain affecting 1,877 villages across 36 districts, the state govt has mobilized resources to provide immediate aid to nearly 6.5 lakh people. "Under the direct supervision of the CM, a robust relief framework has been established, involving continuous monitoring and on-ground inspections by over half a dozen ministers. These officials have been actively visiting flood-hit regions, distributing essential supplies, and ensuring the well-being of the victims," the spokesperson said. Relief commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said that the floods have affected 92 tehsils, displacing 6,42,913 people and damaging 573 houses. Financial compensation has already been provided to 465 families, and efforts are underway to assist the remaining victims. "Additionally, 84,700 cattle have been relocated to safer areas,"he said. Ganga crosses danger mark in Varanasi; floods 84 ghats, displaces over 6K

He added that instructions have been issued for continuous spraying of anti-larvae, fogging, and lime in waterlogged areas. Officials have also been directed to stay in touch with residents of affected areas and address their concerns promptly.
