Moscow: Strikes against peaceful nuclear facilities pose real, not hypothetical, threat

Saba Yemen8 hours ago

Moscow - Saba:
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stressed that the nuclear threat in the Middle East is not merely hypothetical but carries a practical dimension.
In an interview with Sputnik Radio, Zakharova said that this is a real threat facing the region and the world.
Zakharova added: "All of this leads not only to escalation, but also to a direct threat to the region and the world, given that the strikes are directed against peaceful nuclear or atomic facilities. The nuclear threat is not hypothetical but has a practical dimension."
Iran had previously stated that it "had, has, and will have the right" to possess peaceful nuclear facilities, which have been subjected to Israeli strikes since June 13 in a large-scale attack launched by the Israeli enemy army.

Israeli Army: We Have Destroyed Iran's Arak Nuclear Reactor

The Israeli military announced Thursday that it has carried out a targeted airstrike that destroyed Iran's Arak nuclear reactor, a heavy-water facility long suspected of contributing to Iran's controversial nuclear program. In a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), military officials claimed the strike was part of a broader campaign to 'dismantle Iran's capacity to develop nuclear weapons,' amid heightened regional tensions. The statement emphasized that 'surgical precision' was used in the operation to minimize civilian casualties and environmental fallout. 'The Arak reactor represented a critical component in Iran's ability to produce plutonium,' said an IDF spokesperson. 'Its destruction is a significant step in neutralizing the nuclear threat posed by Tehran.' Iranian state media confirmed an attack on the Arak facility but disputed the extent of the damage. Authorities in Tehran asserted that the site had been evacuated prior to the strike and that no nuclear material had been compromised. 'There is no risk of radioactive leakage,' said a spokesperson for Iran's Atomic Energy Organization. The strike comes amid escalating hostilities between the two nations, with Iran launching a series of drone and missile attacks on Israeli cities earlier this week. The United Nations has called for restraint on both sides, warning that further military escalation could destabilize the broader Middle East. International reaction has been swift. The U.S. Department of State urged de-escalation, while European Union officials expressed concern over the potential collapse of what remains of the 2015 nuclear deal. The Arak reactor, originally designed to produce weapons-grade plutonium, was a focal point in global negotiations aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear capabilities. Though modified under the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), its role remained a subject of international scrutiny. This latest development raises fresh questions about the future of diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran's nuclear program and adds another flashpoint to an already volatile region.

N Korea Condemns Zionist Aggression on Iran, Warns US, Europe

Pyongyang - (Saba): North Korea strongly condemned the Zionist aggression on Iran on Thursday. The North Korean Central News Agency quoted a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying that the Israeli attacks on Iran are an illegal act and a crime against humanity. He added: "We express our grave concern over the Israeli attack on Iran and strongly condemn this crime against humanity." He continued: "The Israeli raids on Iran are an attempt to ignite conflict, and we warn Washington and European powers against adding fuel to the fire of war." Since dawn last Friday, Iran has been subjected to Zionist aggression using warplanes and drones, which has resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, military personnel, and scientists, and has targeted civilian, military, and nuclear facilities. Yemen : Houthis Say They Won't End Support for Gaza

A top leader of the Iran-backed-Houthi militias in Yemen said they will keep up their support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip until Israeli 'aggression stops, and the siege is lifted.' 'Our operations in support of Gaza will not cease, no matter the sacrifices,' said Mahdi al-Mashat in a statement Wednesday. The Houthis are the last militant group in Iran's self-described 'Axis of Resistance' that is capable of regularly attacking Israel. They have been firing long-range missiles at Israel in the months since it resumed the war in Gaza, setting off air raid sirens but generally causing few casualties. They have also been attacking shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
