Marseille [France], June 13 (ANI): Amid tensions with Iran, Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar regarding ongoing developments. The talks between the two leaders come in the wake of Operation Rising Lion, launched by Israel against Iran.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the evolving situation in the wake of Operation Rising Lion, launched by Israel against Iran.
PM Modi shared India's concerns and emphasized the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.

India had earlier in the day expressed its deep concern at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. 'We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites,' the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
India urged both sides to avoid any escalatory steps and expressed its willingness to offer all possible support.
'Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues. India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support,' the statement said.
'Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories,' it added.
Earlier in the day, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) said Israel has launched a 'precise, preemptive strike' in Iran. The spokesperson BG Effie Defrin said the strikes aimed at damaging Iran's nuclear program and in response to the Iranian regime's ongoing aggression against Israel.
'For years, the Iranian regime has called for the destruction of the State of Israel, planning and advancing concrete military plans to do so. Over the past few months, intelligence has shown that Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon. This morning, the IDF began pre-emptive and precise strikes targeting the Iranian nuclear program in order to prevent the Iranian regime's ability to build a nuclear bomb in the immediate timeframe,' he said.
He said the airstrikes were aimed at protecting Israel's right to exist and for their future. 'We have no choice. We are operating against an imminent and existential threat. We cannot allow the Iranian regime to obtain a nuclear weapon that would be a danger to Israel and the entire world. This operation is for our right to exist here, for our future and for our children's future. The State of Israel has the right and the obligation to operate in order to protect its people and will continue to do so,' he said.
Netanyahu had announced the launch of a large-scale military campaign, Operation Rising Lion, aimed at dismantling what he described as an existential threat posed by Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. Netanyahu said Israel had struck multiple high-value Iranian targets in a decisive first strike.
'Moments ago, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival,' he said, adding that the mission would continue 'for as many days as it takes to remove this threat.'The Israeli leader accused Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons programme in defiance of global warnings, pointing to enriched uranium stockpiles capable of producing multiple nuclear bombs.'
In recent years, Iran has produced enough highly enriched uranium for nine atom bombs. Nine,' he noted, warning that Tehran had taken 'steps to weaponise this enriched uranium' and could develop a nuclear weapon within months. (ANI)

PM Modi to begin 3-nation visit to Cyprus, Canada, Croatia on Sunday
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Cyprus, Canada and Croatia on Sunday, with the focus on his planned meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney on the margins of the G7 Summit that is expected to reset bilateral relations after diplomatic row over the killing of a Khalistani separatist. Modi will begin the three-nation tour by travelling to Cyprus during June 15-16, only the third visit by an Indian premier and the first in 23 years. Modi will hold talks with President Nikos Christodoulides in the capital Nicosia and address business leaders in Limassol, the external affairs ministry said while announcing the visit on Saturday. In the second leg of the visit, Modi will travel to the resort Kananaskis in Canada during June 16-17 to participate in the outreach session of the G7 Summit. This will be his sixth consecutive participation in the summit and he is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with other leaders attending the meet, including Carney. The tour will conclude with a visit to Croatia on June 18, the first by an Indian premier. Modi was earlier scheduled to visit Croatia last month but the trip was called off because of hostilities with Pakistan. He will meet Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and President Zoran Milanović and the visit will underscore India's commitment to strengthening engagement with partners in the European Union (EU), the ministry said. The decision to travel to Cyprus on the way to the G7 Summit was influenced by Turkey's support for Pakistan during last month's military clashes with India, people familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity. Turkey recognises Northern Cyprus, comprising territories seized by Turkish forces in 1974, while India has maintained close ties with the Republic of Cyprus, which too has backed New Delhi on issues such as terrorism and Kashmir. In a break from past visits from the Indian side, the Prime Minister is expected to visit northern areas of Cyprus, close to Northern Cyprus, the people said. In recent years, India has strengthened ties with both Cyprus and Greece as part of its outreach to the Mediterranean, bolstering both trade and strategic ties. A key area of focus for the three-nation tour will be Modi's first meeting with Carney on the margins of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis that has been described by the external affairs ministry as an opportunity to reset India-Canada relations based on 'mutual respect, shared interests and sensitivity to each other's concerns'. This will be Modi's first visit to Canada in a decade. India-Canada ties cratered when former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau alleged in September 2023 that Indian agents were linked to the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India dismissed the charge as 'absurd' and subsequently accused the Canadian government of giving space to separatists and radical elements that posed a threat to Indian diplomats. Modi and Carney had their first phone call on June 6, when the Indian leader accepted an invitation to attend the G7 Summit. Following Carney's appointment on March 14, the two sides have been in touch at the level of leaders and senior officials. TEL AVIV: Israel's military on Saturday said it was "currently" launching attacks on several sites across Iran as it kept up its campaign targeting the Islamic republic's military and nuclear sites. Earlier, Israel's defense minister warned that 'Tehran will burn' if Iran continues firing missiles, as the two countries traded blows a day after Israel launched a blistering surprise attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing a number of top generals. Israel's military said the strikes had also killed nine senior scientists and experts involved in Iran's nuclear program. Iran's U.N. ambassador said 78 people were killed and more than 320 wounded in the attacks. Iran retaliated by launching waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel, where explosions lit the night skies over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and shook buildings. Speaking after an assessment meeting with the army's chief of staff, Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Iran will pay a heavy price for harming Israeli citizens. "If (Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front — Tehran will burn,' Katz said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday that his objective was to eliminate any Iranian threat to Israel, but he also urged Iranians to rise up against their leaders. However, Gautam Adani's investment in the Israeli port is now under serious threat due to escalation in the Iran-Israel war. According, regional stability has drastically declined amid the raging Iran-Israel war, and could result in delays in cargo delivery at the Haifa Port and changes in shipping routes. While Adani's defense venture is likely to benefit from the ongoing conflict, his investment in Haifa Port faces a major threat as tensions escalate.
