On June 6 and June 7, India will celebrate Eid ul-Adha or Bakrid. Meanwhile, apart from June 6 and 7, 2025, the banks will be closed across the country on June 8, 2025, which is a Sunday.
Bank holidays June 2025: Are banks open or closed on June 6 and June 7?
To mark Bakrid 2025, banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will be closed on Friday, June 6, 2025. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, banks nationwide, except Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram, will be closed in observance of Bakrid, also known as EId ul-Zuha.
Banks across the country, except Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, will be closed on Saturday, June 7, 2025, on account of Bakrid, also known as Id ul-Zuha. Commonly known as the 'goat festival', the bank holiday designated regions will celebrate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son on this day.
Since Saturday, June 7, 2025, is the first Saturday of the month, banks in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will be open. The 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month are normally bank holidays according to the RBI calendar. Notably, every Sunday of the month is a bank holiday. Therefore, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, banks will be closed.
Banks in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will be open on Saturday, June 7, 2025, since it is the first Saturday of the month. As per the RBI calendar, banks are typically closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Notably, banks are closed on all Sundays of the month. Hence, banks will be closed on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
During bank holidays, online banking services will be available nationwide. These services are convenient to customers for easy financial transactions.
Demand draft request forms, chequebook forms, and NEFT/RTGS transfer forms can all be used to request money transfers. Card services can be used to secure ATM cards, debit cards, and credit cards. Additionally offered are services like establishing standing instructions, requesting a locker, and completing account maintenance documents will also be opened.

New Delhi: If you have a home loan, your EMI is set to reduce by over Rs 1,500 a month thanks to the Reserve Bank of India's latest move. With the central bank cutting the repo rate by 50 basis points -- from 6 per cent to 5.5 per cent -- banks are expected to lower interest rates on loans. For a Rs 50 lakh home loan over 20 years, this could mean monthly savings of Rs 1,569 and annual savings of nearly Rs 19,000, offering much-needed relief to borrowers amid high living costs. The repo rate is the interest rate at which the RBI lends money to commercial banks. A reduction in this rate makes borrowing cheaper for banks, which in turn allows them to offer loans to customers at lower interest rates. This directly impacts borrowers, especially those with home loans linked to repo-based lending rates (RBLR). Let's break this down with a practical example. Suppose you have a home loan of Rs 50 lakh at an interest rate of 8.5 per cent for a tenure of 20 years. Your monthly EMI in this case would be around Rs 43,391. Now, after the 50 basis points cut in the repo rate, if the bank reduces your interest rate to 8 per cent, your new EMI would come down to approximately Rs 41,822. Gaurav Gupta, Secretary of CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India), welcomed the RBI's monetary decision, saying that the rate cut will help reduce borrowing costs for home buyers. Beyond just lowering monthly payments, it will improve housing affordability across the country. He further added that a drop in interest rates not only benefits individual buyers but also boosts overall sentiment in the real estate sector, which positively impacts multiple industries connected to it. Importantly, it's not just home loans that will get cheaper -- personal loans, auto loans, and other types of retail borrowing will also see reduced EMIs as a result of lower interest rates. Hyd gears up for Bakrid, markets bustle with activity
Hyderabad: The city is preparing to celebrate Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) on Saturday. Marked by early morning prayers, the traditional qurbani (animal sacrifice) and grand feasts, Bakrid brings families and communities together in a vibrant display of faith, sacrifice and charity. Eidgahs and mosques across the city, including those in the Old City, Mehdipatnam and Tolichowki, are set to host thousands of worshippers for the special namaz that marks the start of the day's religious observances. "Bakrid reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and sacrifice. The prayers unite the community in faith and reflection," said Aabida Ahmed, a homemaker from Mehdipatnam. She added: "Bakrid is celebrated to honour the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It teaches us about faith, submission, and the importance of sharing blessings with others." The city's goat markets have been bustling all week with families rushing to buy healthy animals for the qurbani ritual, which symbolises the willingness to sacrifice and share. Abdul, a vendor in Tolichowki, said: 'This is our busiest time of year. Customers look for strong, well-cared-for animals with which to honour this tradition respectfully." He added that demand usually spikes in the final days before Bakrid, with many families preferring to choose their sacrificial animal in person. Preparations at home are equally elaborate. Many families are busy preparing traditional dishes such as biryani, kebabs and sheer khurma to celebrate the occasion. Sharing the sacrificial meat with neighbours, relatives and the underprivileged is central to the spirit of the festival. Farzana Begum, a resident of Old City, said, 'Giving to those in need is what Eid al-Adha is truly about — community and compassion. It's a reminder that blessings are meant to be shared." Traffic to be diverted on some routes today
Kanpur: The district administration has imposed restrictions on traffic movement and diverted some routes in view of the Eid-ul-Adha festival to be celebrated on Saturday. The traffic arrangements near the main Eidgah in Bajaria have been modified for Eid-ul-Adha prayers. These arrangements will come into force from 5 am until the prayer service ends. The traffic police have designated specific parking areas for attendees. Vehicles from various points have been assigned alternative routes. Traffic from Parade and Lal Imli crossings will be turned right at the Colonelganj Square and proceed via Shani Dev Temple intersection. Those travelling from Gol Chauraha and Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital will use Benajhabar intersection via Chandni Nursing Home. Vehicles coming from Jarib Chowki will pass through Ram Bagh crossing and Brahma Nagar crossing. Those from 80 Feet Road will use Brahma Nagar crossing via Ram Bagh intersection and P Road. Traffic coming from Vs from Chhah Bagaliya Square will pass through McRobertsganj slope via Shani Dev Temple intersection.
