Durant was at Fanatics Fest in New York when Shams Charania of ESPN broke the news on X.
The Rockets went 52-30 this season. They were the second seed in the West and made the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Houston lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in seven games, but now the franchise is adding the eighth-leading scorer in NBA history.

According to Kelly Iko and Sam Amick of The Athletic, Durant is 'incredibly excited' about getting traded to the Rockets, who have a strong belief that this will be a long-term partnership with the NBA legend.
'According to a source close to Durant, the future Hall of Famer is 'incredibly excited' about the opportunity to join a contender in Houston, surrounded by a talented coaching staff and top-five defensive unit,' Iko and Amick wrote. 'The news broke just as he was being interviewed in New York for Fanatics Fest, with the 14-time All-Star letting out a huge grin in front of hundreds of adoring fans.

'Durant has one season remaining on his current contract (worth $54.7 million). Yet while he may not sign an extension when he's eligible in July, team sources said there is a strong belief that this will be a long-term partnership. On paper, the Rockets' potential looks extremely promising.'
Durant can extend with Houston for up to two years, $122.1 million starting on July 6.
The future Hall of Famer turns 37 in September.
A top 75 player of all time, Durant averaged 26.6 points for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

MLB Makes Major Ronald Acuña Jr. Announcement on Monday

MLB Makes Major Ronald Acuña Jr. Announcement on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. You can say whatever you want about Atlanta Braves fans, but never doubt their loyalty toward superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. Advertisement Incredibly, Acuña has a chance to start July's All-Star Game despite not making his season debut until May 23. Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Acuña, who has played only 27 games, ranks fourth among NL outfielders in All-Star votes. Acuña had 1,140,061 votes as of publication, trailing only the Chicago Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong (2,005,630), the Los Angeles Dodgers' Teoscar Hernández (1,366,537), and the Cubs' Kyle Tucker (1,219,866). The league's top six outfielders advance to Phase 2, which begins June 30. Acuña holds a narrow lead over New York Mets star Juan Soto (1,048,781) and the Arizona Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll (1,019,472). No other Braves player ranks higher than sixth at their position. Atlanta Braves' right fielder Ronald Acuna JrDale Zanine-Imagn Images In fairness to Braves fans, they're at least slightly justified in stuffing the ballot box. Acuña entered Wednesday hitting .396 with eight home runs, 15 RBIs, and an incredible 1.202 OPS in 117 plate appearances. Advertisement We've seen some questionable All-Star selections over the years, perhaps none worse than Pittsburgh Pirates closer Mike Williams earning the honors in 2003 despite having a 6.44 ERA at the break. If Acuña continues his torrid hitting, it doesn't sound too egregious to consider him making the All-Star Game with roughly 45 games under his belt. Unfortunately for Acuña and the Braves, they're still 11 games out of first place and seven games behind in the NL Wild Card race. Cameron Johnson Named 'Most Realistic' Trade Option for Clippers With Kevin Durant No Longer Available

Cameron Johnson Named 'Most Realistic' Trade Option for Clippers With Kevin Durant No Longer Available originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Clippers officially missed out on Kevin Durant this weekend as the Phoenix Suns dealt him to the Houston Rockets. Advertisement With potentially the biggest name on this offseason's trade market now having found a new team, the Clippers are left to look for alternatives who they believe can help them take the next step into the top of the Western Conference. Bleacher Report's Timothy Rapp believes the most realistic option for the Clippers to pursue next is actually a player who was traded for Durant when he went from the Brooklyn Nets to the Suns. Los Angeles Clippers logoKirby Lee-Imagn Images In a recent article, Rapp named Nets forward Cameron Johnson s the most realistic trade option for the Clippers following the Durant trade. Landing Johnson obviously wouldn't be anywhere near as big of a deal as a Durant trade would have been, but bringing him in would serve a similar purpose. Advertisement He'd give a Clippers squad that finished 20th in scoring this past season another consistent scorer they can depend on. This past season, Johnson averaged 18.8 points per game for the Nets while shooting 47.5% from the field and 39% from three. He also tacked on 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He shouldn't be overly costly to pry away from a Nets team that is still rebuilding after dealing Durant and Kyrie Irving two and a half seasons ago. He would also leave the Clippers with some room to make other additions as he only carries a cap hit of $21.06 million for next season. The Clippers aren't a team that has the assets or cap space to really pursue any other blockbuster moves now that Durant has been traded, which makes piling up solid players a more viable path for them going forward. Advertisement Johnson is exactly the type of solid player they should be trying to bring in and would be a good fit for their needs if they can land him. Rockets to host 2025 NBA draft experience at Toyota Center

The Rockets are currently without a pick in the 2025 NBA draft, but they will still host their interactive fan event on Wednesday night. Even though they are reportedly without a draft pick, the Rockets will still hold their 2025 NBA draft experience inside Houston's home arena of Toyota Center. The draft starts at 7:00 p.m. Central on Wednesday night, with the event opening up a few hours before. Technically, the Rockets still own the No. 10 pick in the June 25 first round and the No. 59 selection in the June 26 second round. However, both will be traded after the draft to Phoenix as part of the blockbuster trade bringing Suns star Kevin Durant to Houston. That deal cannot be finalized until July 6, since the Rockets will need Jalen Green to be on his higher 2025-26 salary in order for the deal to work, financially. So, because of that distinction, the Rockets will still technically make both of their 2025 draft selections — though Phoenix will be telling them who to select. The top-10 pick will presumably go across the draft stage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center while wearing a Rockets hat. Nonetheless, considering the enthusiasm from local fans, the Rockets are going forward with their plans for Wednesday's first round. From the team's press release: Rockets legends Steve Francis, Moochie Norris, and Rudy Tomjanovich will all be in attendance signing autographs, taking pictures and mingling with guests throughout the night. There will be activities for all ages to enjoy, including open play on three half-sized basketball courts on the main Toyota Center floor from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central. In addition to entertainment on the main court, fans can take photos with the 1994-1995 NBA championship trophies. Meanwhile, the Rockets SkyCourt will be open to kids while featuring balloon twisters, face painters, inflatables, photo booths, and more. Food and beverage specials, along with other interactive activities, will be available throughout the main concourse. These activities will include chances to win autographed items, tickets, and other prizes. The event will include appearances from SportsTalk 790's Matt Thomas, along with Space City Home Network talent Craig Ackerman, Ryan Hollins, Calvin Murphy, and Vanessa Richardson. Rockets in-arena co-host Kiotti will serve as the emcee, with entertainment featuring performances by Clutch City Dancers, Clutch the Bear, Rockets DJ Palmo, and the team's Launch Crew. All guests will receive the opportunity to purchase the official 2025 NBA draft cap and browse the official team shop. The team will also unveil a brand-new collaboration with Houston-based artist Donkeeboy, which will feature exclusive hats and t-shirts. Tickets for this event ($1 each) are available at and guests may park for free on the fourth through seventh levels of the Toyota Tundra Garage (located adjacent to Toyota Center). In theory, it's still possible that Houston could trade back into the 2025 draft. However, the team's current focus seems to be on putting together a championship-level roster around Durant, which typically includes an emphasis on veteran players and not rookies. Because Durant isn't yet an official member of the Rockets, the team can't officially reference him at Wednesday's event. However, it's safe to say that he'll be alluded to frequently, and he'll undoubtedly be the leading topic of discussion among excited fans in attendance.
