Final 2025 USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll unveiled: Was Alabama ranked?
The LSU Tigers defeated Coastal Carolina, 5-3, in the CWS Finals at Charles Schwab Field to win their second national championship in three years under coach Jay Johnson, and their eighth overall title in school history.
LSU finished the year 53-15 overall and were the unanimous No. 1 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, released Monday.
Alabama had a lot to be proud of in 2025. With a talented roster led by shortstop Justin Lebron, coach Rob Vaughn guided the Crimson Tide to their first 40-win regular season since 2002.
But it was an all-too-familiar ending for Alabama in the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson Tide dropped both games in the Hattiesburg Regional -- to the Miami Hurricanes and host Southern Miss -- as the program's College World Series drought reached 26 years.
Alabama, which climbed to as high as No. 8 in the Coaches Poll during the regular season on March 31 after taking two of three from Oklahoma in a top 10 series, entered the tournament ranked No. 20. The Crimson Tide were unranked in the final Coaches Poll Monday. They received the second most votes for top 25 consideration with 73, behind Florida with 85 votes.
Alabama also finished unranked in the final coaches poll in 2024. In 2023, the Crimson Tide were ranked No. 17 in the final coaches poll after reaching the Winston-Salem Super Regional against Wake Forest. Alabama was unranked in the preseason poll this year, released back on Feb. 3.
Eight SEC teams placed in the final top 25, led by LSU. The Tigers won an elimination game over Little Rock in the Baton Regional Regional, then breezed through the rest of the tournament. They swept West Virginia in a Super Regional and went 5-0 in Omaha, rallying for a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over rival Arkansas to clinch a berth in the CWS Finals.

Alabama RB Jam Miller to miss Crimson Tide's opener with upper-body injury, says head coach Kalen DeBoer
Alabama running back Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's scrimmage and underwent a procedure for the issue, head coach Kalen DeBoer announced in a statement on Sunday. 'Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening," DeBoer wrote. "Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined.' The injury is expected to sideline Miller for the Crimson Tide's Aug.30 season opener at Florida State, ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports. Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 6 and Wisconsin on Sept. 13 before a bye week. The Tide will then open their SEC schedule on Sept. 27 at No. 5 Georgia. He also tallied 16 receptions for 155 yards and a score. With Miller sidelined, sophomore running backs Richard Young and Daniel Hill are expected to carry the rushing load. Young ran for 146 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries last season, while Hill rushed for 61 yards and a TD on 21 attempts. Alabama also added transfer Dre Washington, who ran for 478 yards with 107 receiving yards for Louisiana in 2024. Freshmen AK Dear and Kevin Riley could also be in the mix. Last season's second-leading rusher among Alabama running backs, Justice Haynes with 448 yards and seven TDs, transferred to Michigan. Jalen Milroe led the Crimson Tide with 726 yards and 20 TDs, finished his eligibility and was a third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Alabama is ranked No. 8 in the AP preseason college football Top 25, which was released last Monday. Key Alabama football starter injured. Kalen DeBoer provides latest update on lead tailback
With less than two weeks until the season opener at Florida State on Aug. 30, Alabama football will be without a key starter for an indefinite amount of time. Early Sunday, coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed a report from Will Miller of Sports Illustrated that starting tailback Jam Miller had sustained an upper-body injury during the second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. "Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening," DeBoer said in a press release. "Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined." Sports Illustrated's Miller reported late Saturday that the Crimson Tide running back was expected to miss multiple games, including the season opener at Florida State (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC). Miller is Alabama's most experienced running back and was its leading rusher out of the backfield a season ago. The senior from Tyler, Texas, ran for 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries in 2024. In three years at Alabama, he's rushed for 1,092 yards on 219 carries. Miller had two touchdown runs in Alabama's 34-0 win over Missouri on Oct. 26, and a season-high 140 yards on 15 carries in the Week 2 win over South Florida on Sept. 7. His conference-high in yardage -- 84 yards, 28 carries -- came in Alabama's 28-14 win over Auburn, its fifth straight in the series. Miller also caught 16 passes for 155 yards last season, including a 16-yard catch and run in the first quarter of Alabama's 41-34 victory over Georgia on Sept. 28. With Miller sidelined, Alabama can look to sophomore Richard Young, a former four-star recruit from Florida who's been with the program since 2023. Young had 27 carries for 146 yards (5.4 AVG) and two touchdowns a season ago. The Crimson Tide also have sophomore Daniel Hill, who saw action in six games and went for 61 yards on 21 carries in 2024. Louisiana transfer Dre Washington is another option. Kalen DeBoer updates status of two injured Alabama starting linemen
According to head coach Kalen DeBoer, a pair of starting Alabama Crimson Tide linemen have missed the program's second consecutive scrimmage of fall camp. Those players are offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and defensive tackle James Smith, both of which are dealing with injuries leading up to Alabama's season opener at Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30, according to DeBoer. DeBoer also recently gave an update on the status of both following the Crimson Tide's scrimmage Saturday, saying of the duo: "Two guys that didn't scrimmage today, Jaeden and James, same as last week," DeBoer said. "James has been working through and building up. Feel good about the progress he's had in the week of practice and with it being live. Needed to hold back there, but he's getting closer by the day." "Jaeden has a concussion, just to tell you what it is, and he's going through the protocol of that and hasn't done anything from a team standpoint. Starting to work back into that protocol, which included being out there today, but not to participate in the scrimmage." A storyline to monitor leading up to Week 1, if Roberts is unavailable for the season opener, then Geno VanDeMark would likely step into the starting role at right guard. If Smith is unavailable, then names such as Jeremiah Beaman and Edric Hill could see increased snaps at defensive tackle. Alabama will open the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 on the road at Florida State.
