Mike McDaniel's disturbingly morbid answer in Dolphins press conference leaves fans baffled

Daily Mail3 days ago
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has left fans baffled after providing a surprisingly morbid answer in a press conference.
Late last month, McDaniel corrected a reporter after seemingly being greeted with 'good morning' - before explaining the dark reason that it was actually a 'great morning.'
'You should stand corrected - good morning? False, great morning, let's go,' he said.
Asked what was so 'great' about that morning, the coach answered: 'Because we're another day closer to death.'
McDaniel's quip resulted in some laughs from the reporters present, while fans online were taken aback by the remark after it surfaced on social media on Monday.
'Outlook seems optimistic in Miami,' one said on X.

'Just like me on a Monday,' another quipped.
'Appropriate reaction to being associated with this cursed franchise,' a third cracked.
And a fourth said: 'The latest graduate from the Joe Mazzulla School of Communications,' comparing McDaniel to the famously dry Celtics coach.
McDaniel is in a pivotal offseason as Dolphins coach after his team missed the postseason last year.
That occurred in large part due to more injury woes for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed six games due to concussion and hip issues.
The passer, who was hosted by Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, was urged by the president to 'stay healthy' and McDaniel echoed those comments afterward.
'If I was concerned about how serious he was taking his part in staying healthy, I think he got an executive order last night to stay healthy, if I'm not mistaken,' McDaniel told NFL Network over the weekend.
'He then praised his quarterback, adding: 'It's been cool to watch him really evolve into who he is on the national stage but more so, really in his own skin, be the true leader of the team.
'It's real and authentic and all he's done is - in a ton of noise - focus on the right stuff. So there's a lot of things that go into staying healthy but first and foremost you have to front-end prioritize and really acknowledge what you mean to the team,' the coach continued.
'And, like in years past, he lives and embraces "control-ables" and is not afraid of any work. So guys respond to him.'
The Dolphins begin their season on September 7 at the Colts.

Padres rally in ninth to take series from Diamondbacks

August 7 - Ryan O'Hearn tied the game with a leadoff homer in the ninth inning, Jose Iglesias singled in the go-ahead run, and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 in the decisive game of a three-game series on Wednesday in Phoenix. O'Hearn went deep off Kyle Backhus (0-2), his first homer since being acquired by San Diego at the trade deadline. Xander Bogaerts then doubled and was sacrificed to third before scoring on Iglesias' line-drive single to right. Corbin Carroll hit a 443-foot homer in the first inning and Alek Thomas added a sacrifice fly in the second to give Arizona a 2-0 lead, but the Diamondbacks had one hit after Tyler Locklear's single in the second. Padres reliever Adrian Morejon (9-4) gave up one hit in two scoreless innings. Mason Miller struck out three in the ninth while working around a two-out walk for his 21st save, his first since joining San Diego in a deadline deal. Freddy Fermin had three hits for the Padres, who have won nine of 11. Bogaerts homered in the seventh to slice Arizona's lead to 2-1. He went deep for the second consecutive game and has hit six of his nine homers since June 19. The Diamondbacks have lost two in a row and eight of 11. Arizona starter Anthony DeSclafani gave up three hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings during his third start of the season. He struck out four, issued no walks and was removed with a 2-0 lead. Nestor Cortes gave up two runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings in his first start for the Padres after being obtained at the deadline. He walked three and struck out three. Carroll hit an 0-2 pitch for his 23rd homer for a 1-0 lead as the second batter in the first inning. The D-backs loaded the bases with no outs in the second when Locklear beat out an infield single before Cortes hit Blaze Alexander and James McCann with inside pitches. However, Arizona scored only on Thomas' sacrifice fly. After going 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in a 10-5, 11-inning loss Tuesday, the D-backs were 0-for-4 in those situations on Wednesday. --Field Level Media

Refreshed Sinner ready for Cincinnati title defence

Aug 7 (Reuters) - World number one Jannik Sinner said he had taken the right decision by opting for a long break following his Wimbledon triumph, and the recharged Italian is ready to fire at the Cincinnati Open where he will defend his title. The 23-year-old lost a marathon French Open final to rival Carlos Alcaraz in June before gaining revenge over the Spaniard at the All England Club last month to secure his fourth Grand Slam title overall and second of a difficult season in which he served a short ban for an inadvertent doping offence. Sinner opted to prioritise his health following that victory and will return after a near month-long absence from the circuit when he takes to the court over the weekend in Cincinnati after getting a first-round bye. "The body and mind need to recover and need to understand what happened," Sinner told reporters in Ohio on Wednesday as he explained his scheduling. "I'm very happy I took some time off, seeing my family and friends and very important people I have around. In the past, I made some mistakes sometimes, starting too early at times. "I had conversations with the whole team, trying to understand what's best. When you win big titles, they're very special moments and then you have to leave them." Sinner sported a protective sleeve on his right elbow when he practised with Christopher Eubanks on Wednesday, sparking concerns that he was still feeling the effects of an injury sustained during his title run at Wimbledon. The Italian said, however, that he was only using it as it gave him more stability. "The elbow is good. Today was the first time that I put the sleeve on because I liked the feeling of the sleeve," he said. "The impact with the ball is slightly more stable and I liked it at Wimbledon. I had to see how it is when it's very hot and humid because it's a bit different. "It's going to be something I take into consideration, but I really love the feeling of pure striking." The Cincinnati tournament is a tune-up event for the U.S. Open that runs from August 23 to September 7.

Report: Trump-owned courses to host PGA Tour, LIV events in 2026

August 7 - Courses owned by President Donald Trump will be hosting events on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf for the first time in the same year in 2026. LIV Golf has announced it will return to Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C. in Sterling, Va., next year. The Saudi Arabia-backed tour has had an event on a Trump-owned course every year since its inception in 2022. It last held an event at the Trump National Golf Club in 2023. The 2026 event, scheduled for May 8-10, will be one of 14 events on the tour. The PGA Tour, meanwhile, has scheduled an event at Trump National Doral, just outside Miami, according to Sports Business Journal. The tournament is expected to be played April 30-May 3, which slots in three weeks following the Masters and two weeks ahead of the PGA Championship. Per SBJ, the tournament could be a signature event that includes a $20 million purse. Both LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have a history of hosting events at Doral. LIV tournaments were played there for the first four years of its existence, 2022 to 2025, before the circuit didn't return to the Blue Monster this year. That opened the door for the PGA Tour to return to Doral and add to its 54-year history of events there. The last one was the 2016 World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. --Field Level Media
