Attorney: Ex-wife of Rex Heuermann putting on a show in documentary
(NewsNation) — Asa Ellerup, the ex-wife of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, has defended his innocence in a new documentary released on streaming platform Peacock.
In 'The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets,' a three-part documentary, Ellerup is a central figure along with her and Heuermann's daughter, Victoria. Ellerup referred to Heuermann as 'her hero' despite the pair divorcing shortly after his arrest two years ago, and that she had 'fallen in love with him all over again.'
Victoria Heuermann, on the other hand, has said she believes her father is 'most likely' the Gilgo Beach serial killer.

John Ray, the attorney for the family of victim Shannan Gilbert, said Ellerup's statements are all about posturing herself to show she had no involvement in the killings.
'This is all for show, and she's being paid a lot of money to put on a show,' Ray said. 'She and her daughter are doing very well at that. This is all fake and her statements are informed by that fakery.'
Heuermann is accused of killing a total of seven women, whose bodies were among several found on Long Island, New York. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Heuermann is due back in court June 17 as a judge continues to weigh whether to allow key DNA evidence into the trial.

Police said the distress call came just before midnight on June 9, when a man called for help before abruptly hanging up. Person of interest in deadly Orange Mound shooting identified
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A photo has been released of a person of interest in a shooting that killed a man at a convenience store in Orange Mound last week. On June 2, officers say they responded to a shooting call at Save-A-Stop 1 on 1461 Pendleton Street, where a man was found on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Second arrest made in Hickory Hill gas station shooting Investigators say video footage showed the man was involved in a verbal argument with a man, later identified as 'Ray Ray', before the shooting. They say the video captured 'Ray Ray' going around to the south side of the store, which was out of camera view. The victim is then seen walking around the corner of the store with an unidentified woman wearing a green shirt and black pants, also walking the same way as 'Ray Ray.' After the shooting, police say 'Ray Ray' was seen getting into a white, 4-door Chrysler 300 with a black hood, and leaving the scene going westbound on Deadrick Avenue. The unidentified woman was seen running northbound on Pendleton Street. No arrests have been made at this time. But this is still an ongoing investigation. Man found shot dead outside of apartment complex in Indian Land: Sheriff's Office
INDIAN LAND, S.C. () — A shooting death at an apartment complex is under investigation, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. Around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, deputies were called to an apartment complex on Parkstone Drive in Indian Land after reports of a shooting. They arrived to find a 26-year-old man dead in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound. At this time, the victim is not being identified. An autopsy has been scheduled. No one else was hurt, though a truck in the parking lot was hit by gunfire.
