Man detained after breaking armrest off ancient throne in Vietnam
A man was taken into police custody on Saturday after he broke the armrest off an ancient Vietnamese throne recognized as a 'national treasure,' Vietnamese state media reported.
The throne dates back to the Nguyen Dynasty, the last royal dynasty of Vietnam, which lasted from 1802 to 1945.
The Nguyen Dynasty established the city of Hue, in the center of the country, as the capital of Vietnam when it was in power, according to UNESCO. The city's monuments, which include several royal palaces, ritual sites and tombs, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The throne that was broken on Saturday was located inside Hue's Thái Hòa Palace, the city's 'most important structure,' where emperors held court and royal ceremonies were conducted, according to Vietnam News.
Shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday (1 a.m. ET), a man showing 'signs of severe intoxication' entered a roped-off restricted area of the palace and climbed up onto the throne, Vietnam News reported. He then 'shouted incoherently' and broke the left armrest of the ceremonial chair, the state news website said.
A photograph posted by Nhân Dân, the official newspaper of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam, shows a part of the armrest that featured a dragon's head lying on the floor. Two other fragments of the armrest are lying beside it.
The man that broke the throne has been sent for a psychiatric assessment, Vietnam News reported, due to his 'unstable mental state' which included 'delusions and incoherent speech.'
Security measures are being tightened across the entire complex of monuments, 'with an emphasis on the protection of artifacts and national treasures,' the state news website added.

Man, 62, shot while passing group in South Shore, police say
A 62-year-old man was taken to the hospital early Friday morning after being shot in the South Shore neighborhood. It happened around 2:44 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Bennett Avenue. Cries of injured puppy led to 911 call about animal cruelty in Ferndale
A man was arrested after a puppy was found injured and partially placed in a garbage bag in Ferndale, Michigan. Ferndale Police Department reported responding to a 911 call about 12:10 a.m. Friday that an animal could be heard crying near Woodward Avenue and East Bennett Street. The caller said they had also seen a man place a small animal inside a garbage bag in the area. Officers who responded to the area found a man, later identified as Curtis Christophr-Ray Martin, 25, of Detroit, crouched near a vehicle that had its hatchback open. Upon checking the scene, police found a 3-month-old puppy in the vehicle's trunk with a garbage bag over the animal's head. Both of the dog's ears had been severed and its tail was tied. Officers also found scissors and surgical supplies inside the vehicle. Police attempted to arrest the nearby man, but he resisted and ran off. After a brief foot chase, he was taken into custody. Martin had an arraignment hearing Friday at 43rd District Court on one count of animal-killing/torturing-second degree, and two counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer. All of the charges are felonies. Bond was set at $100,000 cash. His next court hearing is June 16. In the meantime, police took the puppy to a local animal hospital for treatment of its wounds. The dog was reported to be in stable condition and it will be under the custody of Oakland County Animal Control until it is healthy enough to be adopted. "We are thankful for the vigilance of the 911 caller and the swift action of our patrol officers in rescuing this puppy," Ferndale Police Deputy Chief David Spellman said about the case. "This is a disturbing act of cruelty."

Body found in wooded area in search for missing teenager Cole Cooper
A body has been found in the search for a teenager who went missing in early May. Cole Cooper, 19, was last seen by a school friend on Wednesday 7 May, in the village of Longcroft near Falkirk, in central Scotland. Mr Cooper was reported missing by his family on Friday 9 May. Police Scotland said the body was discovered in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Banknock on Friday afternoon. "Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of missing man Cole Cooper, 19, has been informed," the force said in a statement. "Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances." Read more from Sky News Speaking to Sky News Breakfast earlier this week, his brother Connor said their family felt "lost" and described his sibling's disappearance as "hell... for all of us". He described him going missing as "very much out of character" and that "even if his brother wanted some space or alone time" he would have notified family or friends beforehand - and would never "put his younger siblings through this". His mother Wendy Stewart described the situation as "total heartache" and was afraid he may have been "picked up by a car" and come to harm. "Is it actually happening?" she said. "I have been wanting to wake up and it's just been a big nightmare." After police got involved in the search, they visited more than 220 properties and trawled through around 1,000 hours of CCTV footage in a bid to find Mr Cooper. Specialist resources from across the country were mobilised, including a helicopter and drones from the air support unit, as well as officers from the dive and marine unit.
