AFC distances itself from Malaysia's potential FIFA suspension
The allegations, made by Indonesian football pundit Justinus Lhaksana, better known as Coach Justin, suggested that the FA of Malaysia (FAM) had bypassed international eligibility regulations to field several South American-born players.
In his podcast "Bukan Bincang Sepak Bola Biasa", Justin accused Malaysia of using players with "fabricated lineage" and claimed FIFA could impose sanctions, including possible suspension until 2027.
However, neither FIFA nor the AFC has issued any confirmation.
AFC general-secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul dismissed the speculation, making it clear that any action related to eligibility falls under FIFA's jurisdiction, not the AFC's.
"We have not been informed of any suspension. Moreover, FAM would know first before anyone else," said Windsor.
"AFC has no information, as such matters come under the purview of FIFA."
The allegations surfaced after five South American-born players — Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Jon Irazabal, Joao Figueiredo and Facundo Garces — featured in Harimau Malaya's 4-0 win over Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10.
Coach Justin also claimed that Malaysia's involvement in the ongoing Under-23 Asean Championship — a tournament organised by the Asean Football Federation (AFF) — was only possible because it is a non-FIFA-sanctioned competition.
But without any official comment or evidence from FIFA, the claims remain unsubstantiated and speculative.
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) was unavailable for comment when contacted.

Immigration Dept nabs 225 during raid at Johor petrochemical site
PASIR GUDANG: A total of 225 individuals were detained at Johor's largest processing and construction site for petrochemical structures during a raid at Tanjung Langsat. Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said they were apprehended in an operation codenamed Ops Mahir on Tuesday (July 22) at 11am. "The operation was conducted following intelligence results after receiving information from the public about foreigners working without valid work permits," he said in a statement. Mohd Rusdi stated that these illegal foreign workers were believed to have been working at the site for the past two to three months. He noted that 664 locals and foreigners were inspected during the raid, with 225 apprehended for committing several offences, aged between 21 and 63. "Those detained were 129 mainland Chinese men, four Chinese national females, 84 Bangladeshi males, two Indonesian men, two Pakistani males, and two Nepalese men," said Mohd Rusdi. He added that the department also detained two locals — a man and a woman, who were the manager and the human resource officer at the site, respectively. Mohd Rusdi said the foreigners were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in Malaysia without valid permits. Other offences included staying in the country after their valid passes or permits expired or were cancelled under Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act. They also committed offences under Regulations 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misuse of social visit passes and Regulations 39(b) for violating specified pass conditions. "The two Malaysians were detained for harbouring foreigners under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," said Mohd Rusdi. He added that a total of six notices were issued to individuals to appear at the department's enforcement division to assist with the investigation. "All detainees are placed at the Pekan Nanas Immigration Depot for investigation and further action," said Mohd Rusdi.

RM500,000 fags, vehicles seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine police confiscated 215,600 sticks of various brand cigarettes and two vehicles from a house in Silam, here, on Tuesday. Sabah (Region Four) Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team from the Unit Gempur Marin raided the house at 5.30am. He said a local in his 20s was arrested to assist in the investigation. 'The seizures, including the vehicles, were worth RM507,590,' he said, adding the case would be investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Meanwhile, police arrested three foreigners and seized drugs believed to be syabu in two separate operations by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, here, on Tuesday. District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the first suspect, a 35-year-old Indonesian, was detained at 1.30pm at Jalan Panji. He said police found a translucent plastic packet containing substances believed to be syabu weighing 0.27gm in the suspect's possession. The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. 'On the same day, police arrested two men from the Philippines inside a hut in a plantation in Jalan Tengah Nipah and seized 5.45gm of syabu, a modified straw and aluminium foils. 'One of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,' he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Dzulbaharin said all the suspects were currently in their custody for further investigations.
