Fatal Dallas police chase: 1 dead, 2 officers injured
An armed carjacking in Dallas led to a police chase overnight Thursday.
The pursuit ended when the suspects' vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, collided with a police SUV.
The crash resulted in one suspect's death, serious injuries to two other suspects, and injuries to two Dallas police officers.
DALLAS - One person is dead and four others are injured, including two Dallas police officers, after a carjacking led to a chase and crash overnight Thursday, according to police.
What we know
Dallas police officers responded to an armed carjacking in the 9800 block of Dale Crest around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Three men allegedly stole a Mustang. Officers quickly located the car and observed the suspects stop at a gas station. When police attempted to make arrests, the suspects fled.
A brief pursuit ensued and ended abruptly when the suspects' vehicle, driving on the wrong side of Northwest Highway, collided head-on with a police SUV just north of Dallas Love Field Airport.
Two police officers were taken to a nearby hospital after the crash. One officer sustained serious injuries, while the other's injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Of the three suspects, one died at the scene, and the other two are in serious condition.

Authorities have not released the identities or ages of the suspects. Information regarding the identities of the involved officers or specific details about their injuries also remain unavailable. The investigation is ongoing.

Corvette, Mustang Street Racing Ends In Serious Crash

Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were harmed by the foolishness of the two drivers, but one of them ended up being thrown from his car and the other was thrown into the backseat of a police sports and pony cars were racing each other on northbound SR-99 in Modesto on the afternoon of August 10, says California Highway Patrol, weaving through slower traffic as they tried proving which was faster. Both were going over 100 mph. Behind the wheel of the C6 Corvette was 26-year-old Tyler Azadzoi, who veered onto the dirt and gravel median, to avoid slower cars. That move caused him to lose control of the sports car, which veered right across all the southbound lanes, over the shoulder, and into a chain link fence. That collision caused the 'Vette to roll multiple times onto another road. Because Azadzoi wasn't wearing a seatbelt, he was thrown from the vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital. But his 28-year-old passenger who was belted in escaped with minor injuries, reports The Modesto Bee. Even better, the driver of the Mustang, 22-year-old Raul Torres Jr., reportedly stopped briefly where the Corvette crashed, then he took off. Torres fled to his house in Manteca, parking the Mustang in a garage. Because others got the license plate number of the Mustang, CHP showed up at Torres' address, arresting him and impounding his car. He's now facing felony charges for reckless driving proximately causing bodily injury and speed contest causing injury, as well as several lesser criminal charges. The big takeaway here is street racing is dumb. It's even dumber when you don't wear your seatbelt. I was in a coma after a car crash at 18. Nearly 20 years later, I tracked down the stranger who saved my life.
I was helping my father move when I found the police report dated January 16, 1989. My heart raced reading it. The report is a detailed description of the car accident that left me in a coma many decades ago. I had never read it, so I was surprised to see that the report named a witness. Although I had not seen him since that day, I knew exactly who the man was. I remember clearly the morning of the accident. My boyfriend was leaving for Hollywood with his band, and I was feeling insecure and jealous. I had broken up with him over the phone the night before in a drunken stupor and then fell asleep at my coworker's house in San Jose, CA. I woke up the next day disoriented, hungover, and filled with regret. I was desperate to see him before he got on the plane, to tell him it was all a mistake. And so, although there was ice coating the windshield of my 1965 Mustang, I got in the car, rolled down the window, and drove. There was a light pole at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Saint Thomas Boulevard. I never saw it coming. He saw the crash when no one else did and stepped in Once I found the police report, I decided to hire a private detective to find the witness who saved me. I wrote to him and he responded. He had no idea how badly I had been hurt. There was no blood at all; it just looked as if I had broken my wrist. But if he hadn't come along when he did, I may not have gotten the help I needed. Nearly 20 years had passed since that day. I asked him if we could meet, and he said yes. When he arrived at the restaurant, I did not recognize his silver hair and bright blue eyes. We talked over a cup of coffee. He said he remembered my car passing him. "Was I driving in the middle of the road?" I asked. He said no, but something made him look in the rearview mirror after I passed. "I can't say what," he said. That was how he saw me crash into the pole. He stopped, and he thought we should call for help. "But you just wanted to go on," he said. I had no recollection of this, but I had actually refused help. What I do recall is that he propped open the back door of his car and told me to get in, and that I nearly fell as I did so. He then drove me to a nearby Stop & Go gas station, where they called an ambulance. I had no idea how close I was to dying At the restaurant, he told me he still remembers the leather jacket with tassels I was wearing. They cut this leather jacket, along with my jeans and cowboy boots, from my body in the ambulance. At the hospital, an MRI revealed I had internal bleeding where the steering wheel had gouged my stomach. The ER doctor at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center told me they would operate immediately. There was a tear in my duodenum, and my stomach acids dissolved the stitches, so the doctors put me into a drug-induced coma while they went back in every day to repair the damage stitch by stitch. I woke up four days later, happy to be alive. Even though I had told him I didn't want help, this kind stranger had insisted. Who knows what would have happened if he had kept driving? And yet I had never reached out to thank him. We finally closed a loop that had been open for 20 years Twenty years later, my savior was still driving the same route to work every morning because has an office nearby. He has a family, too, and I asked if he ever told them about what happened that day. He said he had. Odd, I said. I could have passed any of them on the street and never known them, and I could have passed him on the street and never known him. "And I did once," he said, "pass you on the street." And we both laughed. When I tell the story, people say it sounds like he was an angel. But he is a real person, and yet, he is as much an angel as anyone has ever been for me.

Virginia State Police Are Now Driving S650 Mustangs
Read the full story on The Auto Wire If you live in or travel through Virginia, be on the lookout for state troopers behind the wheel of S650 Mustangs. Virginia State Police just announced a whole slate of these new pony cars have officially been added to the fleet and delivered to troopers, so they're out on the prowl as we of the Mustangs are GTs with nary an EcoBoost in the lineup. It might be a tough pill for the four-banger crowd to swallow, but the Coyote V8 not only is more powerful, it's far more reliable and durable. Those sorts of things matter to law enforcement agencies. Ford will allow law enforcement and other government entities to create custom specs of duty cars. In this case, VSP appears to have selected the wheels and Brembo brakes included in the GT Performance Package without also including the rear wing (maybe that interfered with the cruiser's equipment?). With a top speed of 155 mph, these Mustangs are fast, making it harder for determined suspects to ditch troopers in a chase. That might be in part why we see more and more law enforcement adding pony cars to their fleets. It probably also doesn't hurt that Dodge has watered down its performance, forcing police to look elsewhere for fast rides. There are some problems with using Mustangs in law enforcement. For one, they don't have a push bar, so officers can't do a PIT maneuver with them. With only two doors, there's no putting suspects in the backseat. Also, interior space is more cramped than in an SUV, so police have to deal with that challenge. But something tells us VSP troopers won't complain. However, speeders and aggressive/distracted drivers will probably loathe these new Mustang GTs added to the fleet.
