The update is coming to Pixel 6a handsets - and it's mandatory.
It's all because of potential overheating, after a small number of users came forward claiming their phone caught fire.
The issue and battery problems won't affect all Pixel 6a devices but the update is being issued as a precaution.
Google confirmed to The Sun three weeks ago that an update was coming to a "subset" of users.
On affected phones, the battery capacity will be reduced after they reach 400 charging cycles.
If you do happen to have an impacted handset, a notification will appear when the phone has completed 375 cycles, to warn you that the new battery management features will kick into action soon.
Google says this could result in the battery lasting "for shorter periods between charges" as well as "reduced charging performance or short-term changes to how the battery-level indicator on your phone shows your battery capacity".
Now the company has revealed that it'll roll out the update next week.
"All Pixel 6a devices will receive a mandatory automatic software update to Android 16, with roll-out starting on 8 July 2025, but only Impacted Devices will receive the battery management features," the firm said on its website.
"Some users will see changes sooner than others, because the battery management features activate only after an Impacted Device reaches 400 charge cycles."
Google reveals surprise Android upgrade including AI that answers phone for you
It's not the first time Google has had to deal with battery issues, having run a similar programme for the Pixel 4a previously.
You can check if you're eligible for a free battery replacement by using Google's special tool.

Amazon shoppers risk bank-emptying nightmare in days as expert reveals 5 ‘red flags' that mean you could lose £100s
Experts warn that scams are becoming harder to spot BAD DEAL Amazon shoppers risk bank-emptying nightmare in days as expert reveals 5 'red flags' that mean you could lose £100s Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) EXPERTS have revealed the 5 "red flags" to look out for in a bid to protect online shoppers from scams, as millions gear up for Amazon Prime Day. New research conducted by McAfee shows the users most at risk and how to stay safe online as scams become increasingly difficult to spot. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Amazon shoppers warned of scams that are becoming harder to spot Credit: Getty Scams becoming harder to spot According to Abhishek Karnik, the Head of Threat Research at McAfee: "As inflation and tariffs push more people to hunt for deals, scammers are using generative AI to craft scams that are more polished, personal, and persuasive. "From retailer impersonations to hyper-realistic delivery scams, these threats are getting harder to spot." Experts reveal 5 'red flags' In light of this new growing threat, the cyber security company has shared five red flags to watch out for to help users stay safe online: Urgent language demanding immediate action ("Your account will be closed in 24 hours!"). Requests for payment via gift cards, wire transfers or cash. Claims that you need to "verify" or "legalise" your money. Transfers to "goverment agencies" during the same call. Pressure to keep the call secret or not hang up. McAfee also emphasised that Amazon will never call you about suspicious account activity or unauthorised purchases. Further advice includes, using Amazon's Message Centre, and never giving personal information, passwords, or payment details over the phone. Mr Karnik added: "The good news is that the tools to fight back are getting smarter too. "The best way to stay safe is to pause before you click, trust your instincts, and use AI-powered protection like McAfee's Scam Detector to stay one step ahead." On how to protect your shopping experience, McAfee advised that you enable two-factor authentication on your Amazon account, use strong and unique passwords, and only shop on secure websites. It also suggests you monitor your bank and credit card statements regularly, never click on suspicious emails, and, most importantly, trust your gut. I tested the viral £17.99 Amazon underseat cabin bag to see how many outfits I could fit in McAfee identified older adults as particularly at risk, while platforms like TikTok shop and Instagram Shopping are fast becoming hot spots for scam exposure. Scammers strike again Earlier this year, Amazon shoppers were also advised to watch out for dangerous scams and "unexpected" attacks that could empty bank accounts. In March, Amazon released an official list of the four "common scam trends" that users needed to look out for, ahead of its spring sale. Among the list, were prime membership scams whereby cybercriminals attempted to convince shoppers that they needed to reinstate their membership.

Exact date millions of phones will stop working as UK's biggest network provider turns off 3G access in huge shake-up
The closure is part of their longer-term plans to deliver faster and more reliable connectivity for customers LAST CALL Exact date millions of phones will stop working as UK's biggest network provider turns off 3G access in huge shake-up Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE EXACT date that millions of phones will stop working as the UK's biggest network provider set to turn off their 3G access in a huge shake-up. Some customers might be left with no data at all to access the internet or message friends on WhatsApp when they're away from home. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 The exact date that millions of phones will stop working as the UK's biggest network provider set to turn off their 3G access in a huge shake-up Credit: Alamy The network provider details All of the UK's biggest mobile networks have been slowly turning off access to 3G and that means devices that can't connect to newer 4G and 5G signals could lose access to data and all-important services. O2 alerted its 23 million customers of the changes earlier this year. But now three more locations set to wave goodbye to the old network in just a few days. O2 is the last of the big networks to make the change, as part of an objective agreed with the Government in 2021. After more than 20 years, the company is stripping out 3G to make way for more faster 4G and 5G services. The shake-up will also impact Tesco Mobile, GiffGaff and Sky Mobile, which rely on O2's network technology. When it will happen 3 The next areas will be Norwich, Telford and Guildford Credit: AFP For most people, the demise of 3G shouldn't be a problem but for a small number of users it will result in a data blackout. Because some older handsets aren't able to handle 4G or 5G. They'll still be able to make calls and send texts, but without 3G they won't be able to get online when out and about. However, they can technically still go online when using Wi-Fi. O2's 3G Shutdown: Is Your Phone Ready? The next areas where O2's 3G will be switched off on July 16 are: Norwich Telford Guildford It's already ended in the city of Durham. Torquay will follow on August 4 and the whole of the UK should then lose access by the end of the year. How to save on your mobile phone bill NOT happy with your current mobile phone deal? If you're outside the minimum term of your contract then you won't need to pay a cancellation fee - and you might be able to find a cheaper deal elsewhere. But don't just switch contracts because the price is cheaper than what you're currently paying. Take a look at how many minutes and texts, as well as how much data you're using, to find out which deal is best for you. For example, if you're a heavy internet user it's worth finding a deal that accommodates this so you don't end up spending extra on bundles or add-ons each month. Also note that if you're still in your contract period, you might be charged an exit fee. Ready to look elsewhere? Pay-as-you-go deals are better for people who don't regularly use their phone, while monthly contracts usually work out cheaper for those who do. It's worth using comparison websites, such as MoneySupermarket and to compare tariffs and phone prices. Billmonitor also matches buyers to the best pay-monthly deal based on their previous three months of bills. It only works if you're a customer of EE, O2, Three, Vodafone or Tesco Mobile and you'll need to log in with your online account details. There's also MobilePhoneChecker, which has a bill monitoring feature that recommends a tariff based on your monthly usage. If you're happy with your provider then it might be worth using your research to haggle a better deal. Customer support 3 O2 will be focussing on their more reliable connectivity for customers Credit: Getty The closure is part of O2's longer-term plans to deliver faster and more reliable 4G and 5G connectivity for customers. Vodafone, Three and EE have already completed their 3G switch-off with customers no longer able to access this slower signal. Virgin Media O2 said: '3G services in those areas will be switched off in the coming weeks, and those who currently don't have a 4G or 5G device must upgrade to a compatible handset in order to retain access to mobile data services. "While we know that the vast majority of our customers already have a 4G or 5G device and will not have to take any action, our priority is to provide support to those who need it," said Jeanie York, Virgin Media O2's Chief Technology Officer, said "That is why we are reaching out directly to customers who do not have a 4G or 5G handset, and calling those we know are vulnerable, to provide information about their next steps. "It is important these customers upgrade their handsets in order to continue using mobile data after 3G is switched off."
