Immigration Dept nets 29 suspected GROs in Kota Damansara raid
KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department yesterday arrested 29 women suspected of offering guest relation officer services, along with three men, all foreigners, during a raid on an entertainment outlet in Kota Damansara.
The women arrested during the raid, dubbed Op Gegar, comprised 28 Thai nationals and one Laotian.
All three men detained during the operation were from Bangladesh.
Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said a total of 44 people were inspected during the operation which began at 8pm.
"During the raid, the Bangladeshi workers attempted to flee but failed," Khairrul Aminus said in a statement today, adding that there was no other provocation towards the enforcement officers involved.
He added that the Selangor Immigration Department has also issued seven witness summonses to locals, who are required to appear at the office to have their statements recorded.
Khairrul Aminus said the foreigners, aged between 21 and 42, who were arrested during the operation, were taken to the Semenyih Immigration depot and have been remanded for 14 days to assist in investigations.

Consequently, the EAIC has decided to recommend improvements to the immigration department to ensure the management and handling of detainees' belongings adhere to the existing operating procedures.
